CANDLE INTENTIONS
Church: John & Mary Muir Church: David Kossack & Bridget Kochuk
In the Letter to the Colossians we are exhorted to “Think of what is above, not of what is on Earth.” Does this mean that we should simply ignore things on Earth and focus our thighs on heaven? Should we seek to be those who, as it is sometimes said, are so heavenly-minded that they are no earthly good? Surely not. God saves us not by rescuing us from earth into heaven, but by creating through the Spirit a new heaven and a new Earth. The resurrection of Jesus is our first glimpse of that new reality that God is creating. So what does Paul mean when he tells us to “seek what is above”? Perhaps what he means is that we ought always and only to view Earthly realities in the light of the risen Christ. The world of decay and death in which we live is not what is most true about God’s creation. Rather, the resurrection of Christ shows us the true destiny of created realities. But this destiny is not easily visible to us or to others, not unlike the way in which we do not clearly see the risen Jesus. We already share in Christ’s resurrected life, but that is a life that is “hidden with Christ in God.” So when we seek what is above we are not seeking an escape from the world’ we are seeking the resurrected life of the world that is secretly present now, but will be fully manifest when Christ appears in his glory.

Food Pantry
There is a Food Pantry at St. Thomas, established to serve the needs of parishioners and others in need. The goal of the program is to provide sustenance to individuals and families who, for many reasons, do not have enough to eat. If you are in this situation simply contact the Parish Center and we'll do our best to assist you. If you know of a parishioner that you feel may have this need, please make them aware of the program and have them contact us. Food Collection Sunday is usually the third Sunday of each month, when our parishioners generously drop off Grocery store gift cards in the collection basket in an envelope marked "food pantry" and leave food at the church doors for those in need.
