PARTNERS IN CHARITY 2017

My dear parishioners, St. Teresa of Calcutta said: “If we pray, we will believe; if we believe, we will love; if we love, we will serve. Only then we put our love of God into action.” The partner in Charity gives an opportunity to put God’s love into action and make positive impact on the lives of many people. Bishop McManus recently wrote to you regarding the Annual Partners in Charity Ap-peal. It describes the need for this significant appeal. I now join our bishop in inviting your generous response. As your administrator, I cannot overstate the importance of this appeal, which supports the work of 28 diocesan agencies, ministries and programs, and serves the people of all our parishes and missions (nearly 280,000 local Catholics), as well as many thousands of people in need throughout Worcester County. The theme of the appeal this year, “Faith in Action is Love,” is based on our ongoing commitment to serve our brothers and sisters who are in need throughout Central Massachusetts. Once a year, we commit ourselves to this ongoing work with our Annual Partners in Charity Appeal. We as a parish reflect on God’s great generosity, and respond with generous giving of our own. Our diocesan goal this year is $5 million. Our parish goal is $76,000. We will need many generous donors to reach, and hopefully exceed, our goal. I know that I can count on wonderful parishioners like you. I appreciate all those parishioners who have already contributed $12,000 towards this appeal. We just need to raise another $64,000. I am confident that we will make this happen. This year, it is our hope to increase our parish support of these vital works of charity, education and ministry. Please make all checks payable to Partners in Charity. All pledge reminders and IRS tax letters will come from the diocese office. You can also donate your gift through the diocesan website: www.partners-charity.net Please pray for the success of our appeal here in our parish, and join me in supporting Partners in Charity With prayers Fr. Albert

2017 Partners in Charity Appeal

Dear Friends in Christ, As we approach the 2017 Partners in Charity Appeal, I would like to thank all of you who made a sacrificial gift to the 2016 Appeal. I thank God for the generous support of the people of the Diocese of Worcester, and the leadership of pastors and parish chairpeople. Thanks to everyone’s efforts we surpassed our $5 million goal in 2016. Our 2016 appeal was supported by 18,000 families and individuals, which enables us to meet the financial needs of our ministries in this current fiscal year. I extend a special word of thanks to the 80 St. Paul Society members who contributed $428,594, and the 43 Holy Family Society members who donated $539,130. These two societies collectively donated nearly 20% of our total. Also to be noted is that 150 priests of our diocese were in the St. John Vianney Society, the patron of priests. Together they contributed $238,969. Our 2017 campaign patron saint is St. Teresa of Kolkata. Beginning with her canonization in September 2016, we continue to be inspired by her loving message that to serve others is to serve Christ. Often thought of as a living saint by those who knew her and worked with her, the term “Mother” spoke volumes about her outlook on life. These ministries serve tens of thousands of people in Worcester County, from families in our parishes to those on the fringe of society. Your continued generosity to this appeal has been and continues to be a compassionate sign of your own desire to face the needs of so many and to help them bear the struggles they are facing. As you reflect on the many gifts God has bestowed upon you this past year, I encourage you to support the upcoming 2017 Partners in Charity Appeal. Thank you again for your generosity. With your help, we will continue to build up the Church in Worcester County and beyond. With every prayerful best wish, I remain Sincerely yours in Christ, Most Reverend Robert J. McManus Bishop of Worcester

Mother Teresa is indeed a saint for our times. Her life of service to the poorest of the poor is an example of love in action, a love borne of a deep faith that led her to serve those in need. ThatmissionreflectsthemissionofPartnersin Charity in the Diocese of Worcester. The challenge is taken up daily by countless numbers of men and women - clergy, religious, and lay people - who follow Mother Teresa’s example in their own lives. We turn to Saint Teresa of Kolkata this year seeking her intercession for a successfulPartnersinCharitycampaign so that people in Worcester County may be served by us when we put our faith into action. YourcontributiontoPartnersinCharity makes that possible by

funding pastoral, educational

and charitable ministries.

Mother Teresa saw Jesus in each person and tended to them as if she were tending to Jesus himself. Her example has taught those who work in

PartnersinCharityministriestodothesame. They perform this service “to the least of these” with great love.

Our Catholic schools transform lives by giving children the building blocks for living a truly Christian life. Other educational ministries engage in the formation of young people, seminarians, adults, and the continuing formation of active and retired priests. These ministries reach out to students of all ages in parishes, schools and colleges, and even the homebound. Partners-supportedcharitable

organizations provide for the physical and emotional needs of families, the elderly, refugees, and the sick. Bishop McManus offers his wish for the 2017 PartnersinCharitycampaign:“Byreflectingon and praying to Saint Teresa of Kolkata this year, it is my fervent hope that we in the Diocese of Worcester can come to a deeper understanding of our mission to serve those in need, whether through education, charity or pastoral ministries.”

Lessons in loveCatholic school students

put their lessons into action. At monthly Mass, food is collected for the St. Anne’s Food Pantry, “displaying our commitment to serving those who are less fortunate. When the baskets filled with food are brought up to the

altar to be blessed, our students witness how our combined efforts are

helping to feed hungry families.”– Jeannie MacDonough

Principal, St. Mary School, Shrewsbury

Teaching about human dignity“In a world that so tragically

devalues life in many ways, people today are hungry to learn more about

the Church’s beautiful teachings on God’s gift of life and want to be able to give witness to the sacredness and

dignity inherent in each human person.” – Allison LeDoux

Director, Respect Life Office

Giving and receivingAfter Hurricane Matthew hit Haiti,

many schools, parishes and individuals, through our Haitian Apostolate,

helped those affected by the storm. At its carnival, St. Anthony School in

Fitchburg raised $850 for missions. “Our students are all aware of the challenges the people of Haiti face every day, and they know they are

making an important difference in the lives of these children.”

– John Diorio Principal, St. Anthony School, Fitchburg

Securing the futureWithout Partners in Charity funding,

the Office for Priestly Vocations as well as the House of Studies

would cease to exist. “The lives of all of the faithful of the

Diocese of Worcester are affected by its priests who daily serve the needs of

the faithful and help lead souls to heaven.”

Lord, strengthen these young adults with your gifts of grace, to love and serve as disciples of Christ.

Grant that they may grow into the example of the life your Son Jesus Christ left for us all. Fill them with

the joy of your presence. Increase in them the fruit of your Spirit: the spirit of wisdom and

understanding, the spirit of love, patience and gentleness, the spirit of wonder and true holiness.
