Phast 7 New Feature: Improvements to the radiation on a plane contouring function
In previous versions of Phast, a useful feature was the ability to specify a plane on which incident radiation would be calculated and displayed. This allows creation of contours of e.g. the radiation experienced on the side of a vessel or the wall of a control room. This feature is only available in the standalone flammables models (Jet Fire, Fireball and Pool Fire) and allows you to model the radiation received on a user defined plane in 3D space. However defining the plane was not very intuitive, so in Phast 7 we have defined 3 planes for you, where you define only a single variable. The new radiation contour planes are:
1. Footprint plane - a horizontal plane parallel to the ground, where you specify the height of the plane. The input field is highlighted in Figure 2. An example of the radiation result for an example case is displayed in Figure 3.
2. Side view plane - a vertical plane oriented in parallel to the wind direction, where you specify the crosswind offset of the plane. Example output from an example 45°inclined jet fire is shown in Figure 4.
3. Cross section plane - a vertical plane perpendicular to the wind direction, where you specify the downwind offset. Example output is displayed in Figure 5.
The user defined plane is still available, whereby you define the location and orientation of a desired contour plane by specifying the location (X, Y, Z) of three corners of a plane in Phast’s x, y, z world as shown in Figure 1.

Phast 7 New functionality: Multiple Weathers and multiple concentrations results animation
In Phast 7, the greatly improved graphing functionality allows for a lot more flexibility in what can be displayed. It will be possible for example, to have results of multiple weathers and multiple concentrations on the same graph whereas previously you could only display the results for multiple weather conditions whilst viewing a single concentration. Phast 7 will also produce a time based animation (previously called the dynamic cloud) for multiple results whereas previously dynamic display was only supported when looking at results from one release case under a single weather condition; as shown in Figure 7 . In the same way, it is also possible to display multiple radiation and toxic results for multiple weathers (though these are not animated, unlike dispersion results).
