Lord, thank you for all fathers. For the new ones, who endure sleepless nights with infants in arms. For the busy ones, who juggle the pressures of home and family life. For the steadfast ones, who nurture and care for our special vulnerable children. For the patient ones, who always seek to forgive and engage with their pre-teens. For the persistent ones, who cleverly find new ways to connect with their mini-adults. For the father uncles, who step in to cradle and care for nieces and nephews. For all granddads, who love and support their precious grandchildren. For the foster dads that are called to gather and cover the fragile ones. For the Sunday dads who care for our children and lead them in faith. For the dads who give far beyond their own resources, who overcome disability to cherish and love. Thank you Lord for all our beautiful fathers. Help us to support them and keep them in our prayers. May you bless them now on this their special day. Amen May God Bless our Spiritual Fathers in their chosen vocation
as Priests, Bishops and Brothers!

FAMILY FAITH FORMATION
132 Sacred Heart Parish Sunday, June 21, 2020
SAINTS WHO WERE GREAT DADS
Fatherhood is undoubtedly a sure path to holiness. Being a faithful husband, educating one’s children in the faith and having Jesus at the center are all concrete ways of living according to the vocation of married life. To celebrate Father’s Day, we have
highlighted the lives of some men who, in their vocation as fathers, reached holiness.
Blessed Charles of Austria Besides being the last Emperor of Austria, Charles was a family man and a loyal husband to his wife, Zita. They were married for 11 years before his early death in 1922 and raised 8 children. Being the head of an empire at war certainly had its many difficulties, but in the midst of it all Charles never forgot the importance of his family. After he and his fami-ly were exiled, it proved to be a fruitful time for the family to grow together. According to the website for the cause of his canonization, “His only consolation in losing his throne was the fact that he could spend more time with his wife and family. As he lay dying, he prayed for all of the children by name, and one of his frequent prayers was: ‘Look after my little ones. Let them die rather than commit a mortal sin-keep them in body and soul.’”
St. Louis IX of France King of France from 1226-1270, he founded hospitals and would invite beggars for meals at his home. Louis was a model father and wrote this powerful letter to his son: “My first instruction is that you should love the Lord your God with all your heart and all your strength...If the Lord has permitted you to have some trial, bear it willingly and with gratitude, considering that it has happened for your good and that perhaps you well deserved it. If the Lord bestows upon you any kind of prosperity, thank him humbly and see that you become no worse for it, either through vain pride or anything else, because you ought not to oppose God or offend him in the matter of his gifts. Be kindhearted to the poor, the unfortunate and the afflicted. Give them as much help and consolation as you can. Thank God for all the benefits he has bestowed upon you, that you may be worthy to receive greater.”
St. Manuel Morales St. Manuel Morales is one of the martyr saints of the 20th century Mexican Cristero War. He entered the Seminary of Durango but had to leave to help provide for his family. As the owner of a bakery, he married and had three children. He was known for being a working man, a layman committed to the apos-tolates in his parish and for having an intense spiritual life nurtured by the Eucharist. He also stands out for being nurturing toward his wife and children. In an address, Morales radically defended religious lib-erty and was denounced for it, along with his parish priest. The soldiers offered to release him if he ac-cepted the antireligious law of President Plutarco Elias Calles, which he denied. At the point of death, he, like many of his country said “Long life Christ the King! Long live the Virgin of Guadalupe!” He was canonized by St. John Paul II in 2000.
St. Louis Martin
Louis was an amazing father, with many of his children entering the convent, including the well be-loved St. Therese of Liseaux. He had an affectionate heart, loving each child individually. He was also an active father, joining in the games of the children, often making little toys for them. His wife died of cancer when his oldest daughter was only 17 and St. Therese was only four years old. He had married his wife Zelle at age 35 and they had nine children, four of whom died at birth - the remaining five daughters all embraced religious life. “It is a great honor that the Lord wants to take all of my daughters,” Louis once said.
