“Be doers of the word and not hearers only, deluding yourselves. Religion that is pure and undefiled before God and the Father is this: to care for orphans and widows in their affliction and to keep oneself unstained by the world.” Do what you say, say what you do. In the Biblical days ones word was all that they had. The Jews did not always believe in an afterlife. They thought that after one died all that was left was their memory, how they had lived their life and their name, good or bad. In other words to not be true to your word was a terrible disgrace. We should be aware of our good names, our word, and our verbal contracts with one another. Do we do what we say, and say what we do, are we true Catholics living out our faith? Or do we hold ourselves in positions of esteem all the while not being our true selves as called by Christ, living in unrepentant sin.
