ST. P ATRICK S O RATORY INSTITUTE OF CHRIST THE KING SOVEREIGN PRIEST Sunday October 23rd, 2016 - Twenty-Third Sunday after Pentecost Imitating Christ Unto Our Own Resurrection The ever practical Saint Paul (he could be American!)-- who spoke so eloquently about faith, hope, and charity to the Corinthians -- suggests one thing to us today: it is for us imitate to Saint Paul, and ulti- mately to imitate our Lord Himself, removing ourselves from earthly attachments and directing our at- tentions and our actions toward our “citizenship in heaven.” Otherwise, we make ourselves “ enemies of the Cross of Christ.” It is not a coincidence that Paul tells us that “Jesus Christ ... will refashion the body of our lowliness, conforming it to the body of His glory....” Here, Paul is talking about our own resurrec- tion. We know that on the last day all will rise “in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet,” but we also know that "those who have done good shall come forth unto resurrection of life; but those who have done evil unto resurrection of judgement.” Saint Paul is admonishing us to- day, not to be enemies, but to be the allies of Christ on the Cross. "The hope of a blessed resurrection has shone upon us, that we, afflicted by the certainty of death, may be consoled by the promise of future immortality.” All of these things are for our faith, for our hope, and for our charity; and ulti- mately, they are for our salvation. INSTITUTE OF CHRIST THE KING SOVEREIGN PRIEST

Sunday October 23rd, 2016 - Twenty-Third Sunday after Pentecost

Imitating Christ Unto Our Own Resurrection

The ever practical Saint Paul (he could be American!)-- who spoke so eloquently about faith, hope, and charity to the Corinthians -- suggests one thing to us today: it is for us imitate to Saint Paul, and ulti-mately to imitate our Lord Himself, removing ourselves from earthly attachments and directing our at-tentions and our actions toward our “citizenship in heaven.” Otherwise, we make ourselves “enemies of the Cross of Christ.” It is not a coincidence that Paul tells us that “Jesus Christ ... will refashion the body of our lowliness, conforming it to the body of His glory....” Here, Paul is talking about our own resurrec-tion.

We know that on the last day all will rise “in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet,” but we also know that "those who have done good shall come forth unto resurrection of life; but those who have done evil unto resurrection of judgement.” Saint Paul is admonishing us to-day, not to be enemies, but to be the allies of Christ on the Cross.

"The hope of a blessed resurrection has shone upon us, that we, afflicted by the certainty of death, may be consoled by the promise of future immortality.” All of these things are for our faith, for our hope, and for our charity; and ulti-mately, they are for our salvation.

NOVENA PRAYER TO THE INFANT KING (from “October” 17th to 25th)

O Divine Infant Jesus, I have recourse to Thee. Please, through Thy Blessed Mother, assist me in this necessity (mention inten-tion here), because I firmly believe that Thy Divinity can help me. I hope with confidence to obtain thy holy grace. I love Thee with all my heart and with all the strength of my soul. I repent sincerely of my sins and I beg Thee, O Good Jesus, to grant me the strength to triumph over them. I resolve never more to offend Thee, and I come to offer myself to Thee with the intention of enduring everything rather than to displease Thee. Henceforth, I desire to serve Thee with fidelity and, for the love of Thee, O Divine Infant, I will love my neighbor as myself. All powerful Infant, O Jesus, I implore Thee again, assist me in this need. Grant me the grace of possessing Thee eternally with Mary and Joseph, and of adoring Thee with the angels in the heavenly court. Amen.

Consecration Prayer to the Infant Jesus on the 25th Day of the Month

Sweetest Child Jesus, under the protection of the Immaculate Virgin, Thy Mother, and of Saint Joseph, today I prostrate myself at Thy feet and to Thee, Jesus, Who in Thy Nativity are given entirely to me, I consecrate my heart, my soul, my whole self in order to love Thee and serve Thee with all my strength. My Divine Savior, I would want to have a larger heart in order to love Thee more. Oh, if I could inspire in the hearts of everyone an ardent love of Thy adorable Infancy! O Holy Child Jesus, grant that all may know the omnipotence of Thy littleness and humility. Instill Thy simplicity and innocence in their hearts, and with all those who love Thee, O Divine Infant Jesus, today I adore in particular the moment of Thy Incarnation. Amen. O Divine Infant King, have mercy on us and grant our petitions.

THE HOLY APOSTLES, STS. SIMON & JUDE, OCT. 28

St. Simon was born at Cana in Galilee. St. Luke calls him Zelotes because he belonged to a patriotic party known as the Zealots, who prepared for a war of independence, and who defended the Jewish faith. Even after our Lord called him as an apostle, the appel-lation “Zealot” stuck with him. He was said to be a brother of St. James the Less who was also an apostle and first bishop of Jerusa-lem and the first apostle to be martyred.

St. Jude’s surname Thaddeus or Lebbe (for courageous) was through Cleophas, his father, and Mary his mother, making him a nephew of St. Joseph and therefore a cousin to Jesus Christ. The New Testament includes a short letter written by St. Jude, who is daily commemorated in the Roman Canon of the Mass under the name of Thaddeus.

While Simon announced the Gospel to the peoples of the East, Jude wrote his catholic epistle which is still read in the West and which, declares Origen, “contains strong doctrine in a few lines.” In the first part he foretells the condemnation of heretics; he com-pares them to clouds without water, to autumn trees without fruit and to wandering stars for whom profound darkness is appor-tioned for all eternity. Like the rebel angels, they shall burn for ever in avenging flames, (Epistle of St. Jude, 12-13). In the second part he exhorts the faithful not to be deceived by the seducers but to remain firm in their faith in God and Christ.

Having preached the Gospel at the price of great sufferings, Simon in Egypt, Jude in Mesopotamia, they were both martyred in Persia on the same day in the year 67. Simon is represented in art with a saw, the instrument of his martyr-dom. St. Jude’s square points him out as an architect of the house of God. He was clubbed to death, and is known as patron of impossible cases. It is believed that their resting place is under the altar dedicated to them in St. Peter’s Basilica, Rome.

SPECIAL COLLECTION FOR THE INSTITUTE’S SEMINARY IN GRICIGLIANO

Feast of Christ the king - Sunday, October 30th

The priests who serve you and your children and those who will come in the future are formed in the Institute’s Seminary in Gricigliano near Florence, Italy! The faithful often express their gratitude for our priests in the Institute’s world-wide apostolate. They unite their prayers to those of our Sisters, the Adorers of the Royal Heart of Christ the King who pray for their priests.

Good priests are the fruit of these prayers, sacrifices and of the excel-lent formation dispensed in the Institute’s Mother house & seminary.

We greatly appreciate the tremendous support in the United States, but please also keep in mind the seminary at the very heart of the Institute. Please pray for our seminarians continuously and help us to continue the work of the priestly formation, so pleasing to God and so indispen-sable for the Church.

PLEASE CONSIDER MAKING A GENEROUS DONATION TO OUR BELOVED SEMINARY.

A Second Collection will be taken up at each Holy Mass. Any amount is most appreciated and helpful!
