Give of yourself in other ways: pray for those God puts on your heart, connect with others via a text, call or note – especially those who are lonely, or look for ways to volunteer.

Mass IntentionsMass IntentionsDo you have loved ones who have stopped coming to church?“So our vocation is to go, not just to one parish, not just to one diocese, but all over the world; and to do what? To set people’s hearts on fire, to do what the Son of God did. He came to set the world on fire in order to inflame it with His love. What do we have to desire but that it may burn and consume everything . . . It’s true then, that I’m sent not only to love God but to make Him loved. It’s not enough for me to love God, if my neighbor doesn’t love Him.” ~ St. Vincent de Paul

Do you know an inactive Catholic? Maybe they attend Mass infrequently, such as Christmas and Easter, don't attend Mass at all or maybe they are a neighbor of yours who you know is struggling with issues of faith. We have had promising success at reaching out and encouraging inactive Catholics to give St. John Neumann another try. Please call Deacon Carl, Kim Mazzon or Jackie Sutton at the Parish Office at 740-965-1358, and we will call or visit anyone who might want to talk about coming back to the church. Thank you for your discipleship.

For further information on this ministry, and suggestions for starting the conversation with those who have stopped going to Mass, visit saintjohnsunbury.org/catholic-life/mission-of-the-seventy-two/.

“No trial has come to you but what is human. God is faithful and will not let you be tried beyond your strength; but with the trial he will also provide a way out, so that you may be able to bear it.” (1 Corinthians 10:13)“I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it.”(Nelson Mandela)Jesus desires that peace rule in each of our hearts. Yet many people live paralyzed by fear. . .A spirit of fear will alert us to danger and sharpen our senses, but it will never provide us with what we need to navigate the storms in life. . . The Bible promises that no matter what happens to [us], God has made sure [we] can endure it. But He doesn’t say [we’ll] be able to handle anything in [our] own strength. [We] will have to cling to Him in order to receive the strength [we] need. . . Faith and trust [in God] are the antidotes to fear. . . When we meet God in the dark places and He gets us through, we can feel the joy of His presence.”~ From the Walking with Purpose Bible Study, “Opening Your Heart,” by Lisa Brenninkmeyer

BaptismsJanuary BaptismJanuary 10, the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord, is a perfect day to be Baptized. As an added bonus, the sun came out after many days of gray skies. Please welcome our newest little Catholic, who received the Sacrament from Deacon Carl Calcara, William Francis Carrillo.

Future Available Baptism dates: February 14, March 14, and April 18 at 12:15pm. Your family must be registered members of our parish to schedule a Baptism. Also, if this is your first child, you should attend a Baptism Preparation class. The next class will be held on Saturday, February 6 at 11:00 a.m.

Please contact Rosemary Halter at 740.363.6021 or [email protected] for further information or to schedule a Baptism. To be fair to every family, we regret that we are unable to schedule private Baptisms.

Lord Jesus, Savior of the World and King of Peace, watch over our sons and daughters in the service of their country. Protect them from the physical and moral dangers of military life. Keep them close to You and help them live the commandments. Lord Jesus, give them the courage to serve their country with honor and dignity. Be with them when they are in danger; strengthen them when they face hardships. Above all, Lord, grant that when their service is finished, they may return to us sound in body and soul. Amen.

Exploring the Mass – A Zoom Series Throughout our history, despite pandemic, persecution, war and civil turmoil, Catholics have relied on the Eucharist as a point to gather as a people and celebrate the Paschal Mystery - the redeeming work of Jesus through His suffering, death and Resurrection. Now, as then, we come to the Mass with our needs and those of our brothers and sisters, and leave renewed for the ongoing work as Church – preparing the world for the Second Coming of Christ.

By participating in this virtual series, you will explore how the Mass took the form we see every Sunday, what challenges we face as a gathered assembly, historically and even here at SJN, and the similarities and differences we see in celebrations of the Eucharist in other Catholic communities. We will also answer your questions!

Join us as we explore the Mass in a five-part virtual presentation and conversation, on Thursdays from 6:30-8:00 p.m., which began January 14.  For best results, RSVP by sending a message (and/or any questions) to our Adult Faith Formation Director at [email protected]. Sessions can be accessed by visiting https://tinyurl.com/exploringthemass.

The Order of Christian Initiation is always available for those seeking a church home and the Sacraments, when they or someone they know is ready to take the next step to a life of discipleship in the Catholic Church.

Parishioners are always welcome to "drop in" and join us as we discuss and learn together about Catholic life, faith, and action.

On behalf of the Parish Staff and the OCI Team, let me invite you to learning, reflection and discernment as those among us make their way toward the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist).

It is never too late to begin attending sessions. Regardless of your religious background or experience with church, we will work with you wherever you happen to be, and help you to life in our community. If you know of someone who might be interested in joining us, please invite them.

If you'd like to join us for our sessions on Sundays beginning at 12:30 p.m., go to this link: https://tinyurl.com/OCI-Sunday.

If you'd like to take part in our sessions on Tuesdays beginning at 6:30 p.m., then go here: https://tinyurl.com/OCI-Tuesday.
