Opening Celebrations 3 February

WEDNESDAY 23 JANUARY 2013Vol 6 No 14

Celebrate Australia Day with us on Saturday 26 January

A Celebration of Our NationAustralia Day is a national tribute to everything that makes Australia great: our diverse society and landscape, our remarkable achievements and our bright future.

Australia Day is more than just a public holiday. It’s a day driven by communities celebrating what’s great about Australia and being Australian.

Traditionally, this is a day when we attend either an organised community event or get together with family and friends.

Australia Day celebrations in the City of Ryde begin with an official gathering at the Civic Centre, including an address by our Australia Day Ambassadors, iconic radio duo Jonathan ‘Jono’ Coleman and Ian ‘Dano’ Rogerson.

We also honour our most respected residents with the announcement of the 2013 Citizen and Young Citizen of the Year.

This is followed by a Citizenship Ceremony when 50 new members of the Australian family are welcomed.

Celebrations then move to North Ryde Common for the annual Australia Day Family Concert and Fireworks (5.00 – 9.00pm).

So gather your family and friends, pack a picnic, bring a blanket or low chair and settle in for a great line-up of family entertainment. There will be local acts to get you in the party mood plus headline act ‘Dirty Deeds’, an AC/DC tribute band!

The grand finale will be a spectacular fireworks display lighting up the evening sky at 9.00pm. Rides and refreshments will also be available.

Holiday Road SafetyHoliday weekends are a great time to get out of town for a quick break but this puts pressure on our road network.

As our roads fill up with holiday-makers, road safety and keeping to the rules can give way to the pressures of time and the promise of fun.

The upcoming Australia Day long weekend will be a particularly busy one on our roads, with many families returning home from their summer break.

To encourage us all to keep to the road rules, double demerit points will apply from Friday 25 – Monday 28 January.

For the safety of the people you love and the community you live in, please drive safely and abide by the road safety rules.

For more information about road and community safety go to www.ryde.nsw.gov.au/Safety.

OPEN COMMUNITY WORKSHOPDraft Ryde Local Environmental Plan (LEP) 2011You are invited to join us at a community workshop to have your say about the draft Ryde Local Environmental Plan (LEP) 2011.

The draft LEP was prepared to fulfil the State Government requirement for the City of Ryde to have a comprehensive Local Environmental Plan. It will guide the growth and development of our City for the next 10 years.

The draft LEP was exhibited in mid-2011 and Council received over 3,000 submissions in response.

Given the great community interest in the draft LEP, the Council resolved to hold an open community workshop to address concerns raised both in the written submissions and by speakers at recent Council meetings.

When: Tuesday 5 February, 7.30pm Where: Level 5, Ryde Civic Centre, 1 Devlin Street, Ryde

If you would like to speak at the workshop you will need to complete the ‘Request to Address Council Workshop’ form which can be found at www.ryde.nsw.gov.au/Haveyoursay. Completed forms must be received by close of business on Friday 25 January 2013.

You can view Council reports, which detail and respond to issues raised in written and verbal submissions, at www.ryde.nsw.gov.au/Meetings (meetings of 24 July and 11 December 2012).

Note: A number of submissions were made that related to the Ryde Civic Centre site. Council resolved on 13 November 2012 to rezone the site to SP2 Community Use and to reduce the height of development on the site to RL 91 (the height of the existing building). This rezoning will occur as a separate process to DLEP 2011.

Construction of a 5 storey mixed-use development containing retail and residential uses. The building will contain 6 retail tenancies on the ground floor and a total of 57 residential apartments consisting of 13 x 1 bedroom and 44 x 2 bedroom dwellings. Parking for 108 vehicles will be provided in two basement levels. Strata subdivision is also proposed.

Voluntary Planning Agreement: An amended Voluntary Planning Agreement has also been lodged with the amended development application. Under Section 93F of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act, developers may contribute works or money to the local community as part of their development. The Voluntary Planning Agreement sets out the contributions the developer intends to make to the local community.

Submissions regarding LDA2011/0611, the associated amended Voluntary Planning Agreement, and the amended Voluntary Planning Agreement for LDA2012/0417 must be lodged no later than 20 February 2013.

The above applications and Voluntary Planning Agreements are not ‘designated development’ under the terms of the Environmental Planning & Assessment Act, and the City of Ryde is the authority responsible for the determination of the applications (except for LDA2012/0471 and MOD2012/0207, which will be determined by the Joint Regional Planning Panel).
