A demonstration by Ellen Jean Diederich...you won’t want to miss this one!

“Formalized Living” by Ellen Jean Diederich RRWS, TWSA, WSA, WW

Coloring the Whites Demonstration February 11th, 2014

There are lots of ways to start a painting: with anticipation, fear, joy, curiosity…etc. In watercolor we generally paint light to dark. Light values blend so nicely and because they often illicit less fear, they are often dashed on loosely. They are actually a great place to slow down and get in touch with your paint. Light values also serve as an understructure for your paintings and can really add subtle and intricate information to a piece.

I will demonstrate on the 11th how to build these lights…they are only part of the painting. I will be working with the dark values on the same painting in Hopkins, MN on February 23rd. I invite you to both demonstrations and hope to see you there.

Sincerely,

Ellen Jean Diederich

When you send information

for the newsletter, if you have Signature Status in RRWS, I will add that behind your name, but be-

cause I can’t remember OR I don’t know the other societies that you may have signature status in, you

must put them in your information to me each time. This is the only way they will be added. Those who

have signature status in many soci-eties, please list only 3-4 of your favorites! Thanks. A note for our new members: WELCOME! Our newsletter comes out once a month. You can send news of awards you have received,

workshops you are going to teach, short articles, etc. The more infor-mation we put into each issue, the

more interesting our newsletter be-comes. I reserve the right to edit the

items sent and ask if you have a lengthy article you would like to send, please condense it to perti-

nent information. I do recognize many of your email addresses but appreciate it if

the subject line says “RRWS News”…or is sent as a “Reply” to my email [which most of you

do]. When I email to you, I try to always put RRWS on the subject line so you don’t have to wonder

who is sending the message. Thanks! Diane Johnson, Editor, RRWS
