DIRECTORS FORUM MEETING 14TH OCTOBER 2013

President Norm welcomed all members and exchange students to the Directors Forum Meeting.

Secretary’s Report: Graeme Smith;

Mail: Webhosting Account for the current 6 months that is being rejected as we have been informed

that the webhosting was being stopped at the end of December.

We were told that we would have to organise our own website and hosting. We have done that so we

do not need there webhosting any more.

We have also confirmed to RI that our club is incorporated.

International: Funds have been approved for the BCMF project.

Directors:

Youth: Owen Douglas; Received an email from a fellow director in RYLA to see if we can sponsor a

student because if we can’t find one they have a few candidates to put forward so we need to think

about that. We need someone to come along and tell us about the extension program for pre-qualifying

RYLA applicants. Tanya who is the co-ordinator is more than willing to come along.

Akin: Akin has started at a new school to concentrate on English Course. 2 months has passed since

he arrived in Australia.

Anson: 3 months has passed since arriving in Australia. Owen is now Anson's host family and he

thanked Laurie and Jan for the past weeks looking after him. Anson went to the church for Owen's

nieces christening and then to Owens fathers house for lunch with a lot of babies. There were 80 peo-

ple that attended Owen's birthday party. Owen has many jobs lined up for him to keep him occupied.

Owen reminded all Rotarians to keep in mind taking our exchange students out and about if we get the

chance.

Vocational: Neil Cooke; Harold Harley Golf Day is going to be on Sunday the 1st of December and we

haven't got a venue yet for having our BBQ. We had a successful meeting at Paul Conti's and we will

be working on more locations. President Norm made mention to thank Paul Conti for a great evening.

Dolphin Wishing Well: Clive Bain; Telethon Rotatathon is on this coming week end as well as the

Golf Tournament but please try to give some time for this great cause.

We had investigated the Bird Deterrent for the Dolphins and Bill visited the Mindarie Marina to see

where the existing units were installed and found many shags and seagulls all around so we will not be

proceeding.

Public Relations: Ray Perkins; New Website is up and running. We should have an insert in this

week’s Community Newspaper about the Telethon Event.

Walking Works; Rex North has given us a confirmed quotation for 2 units to be installed in the Bel-

grade Village and the Jacaranda Lodge. These units should prove to be an asset in both of these com-

plexes to assist in the balance of the residents of these two facilities. We could gain some good publici-

ty with the supply of these two units as well as providing a more local benefit. This project could ex-

pand depending on the success and benefits to the residents. The board will be considering this pro-

posal with further information to be obtained from the 2 facilities with their approval or expectations.

In relation to the Web Site and how we are presented to the public to explain who we are, what we do,

what have we achieved and what projects are being planned. We need to be able to give them a busi-

ness card with our details identifying who we are and where we are from. Also we should be able to

provide a pamphlet that is full of information about our club and our achievements as per my pro for-

ma sample. Another thing to consider is to have email addresses that can be added to the business

cards as well as the website address. The email addresses could be all in the same format as for ex-

ample [email protected] This would make it standard across the board so email contact with

any member can be remembered easily. Also a co-ordinated calendar that can be accessed by all

members so that we are all up to date with events.

It was decided to receive confirmation from both facilities in writing of their acceptance of using the

units and to have another meeting with Rex North.

Golf International: Phil Cousins; thanks to all members that have entered their names on the roster

but still a few spots that need attention. Those that can help please do so.

Phil assured us that he was there even though he was not on the roster. Phil will be co coordinating all

of the positions and filling any holes.

Referral Payments: Westpac have started a financial referral program that many clubs can subscribe

to for the receipt of an upfront referral commission and a trail commission for any successful finance

application that is finalised. This can provide an additional income stream just for referring family,

friends and associates to Westpac for finance enquiries. Further information can be provided.

Raffle: 1st Prize Andy Anderson, 2nd Prize Anson

The Nomination for Madelaine has been withdrawn as we have not heard from her for the past 6

weeks.

AGM of the Foundation: The minutes of the previous AGM were raised and there were no items aris-

ing from that meeting. The financial report was presented. The financials have been prepared for the

current period and these have been distributed by email.

Debbie Singh has made scholarship grants during the year. No scholarship grants have been made

so far this year. A lot of changes have been made during the year and Phil Cousins has taken on the

position of Club Service and Clive Bain Community Service through the Dolphin Wishing Well.

President Norm asked if there were any nominations for the President Elect. No one was presented at

this stage. Also the President Nominee will need to be addressed as well.

General Business: We are going to trial next week with the Taverns acceptance of having one main

meal (no choice) with no soup but with having a desert. This is to accommodate having the meal

ready for 6.45pm so that the speaker can have a good time to complete their presentation after they

have had their meal. This will allow the speaker to complete their meal while it is still hot and also not

to appear rude that while they are talking we are eating our meal. Vegetarian and special meals will be

accounted for. This would also accommodate the meeting to finish on time at 8.00pm

Clive asked if the Tavern could still provide a choice of 2 meals. We will do the trial and see how we go. Phil

Cousins expressed the view to ensure that the one choice of meal is a good one. Colin Parker suggested

that we as a club should set down a request for what meals the club would have for the coming month.

President Norm said this could be possible.

Sergeant Session: Phil Cousins

Raffle Winners: Andy Anderson and Anson, Owen had to pay, Phil celebrated the birth of a Granddaughter,

Neil for catching up with some jobs, missing Rotary Pins, Norm for turning up earlier than he had said, Andy

for retiring early and also for going on a cruise, Cross fine was for Anson is because he has no money due

his card being left in an ATM. Also he went to school but it was a student free day.

Extra shirts are available for the members that are doing more than 3 or 4 shifts at the golf tournament.

President Norm: Be prepared to comment on Pamphlets and Business Cards that Ray has presented to us

for the next general business meeting and also consider the units for the 2 aged care facilities. Further infor-

mation to be obtained from these facilities to ensure they will be received favourably.

Next meeting here is the Guest Speaker David Wright; Riding Across Australia.

Bill Kell wanted to raise a couple of observations that have come to mind. He said that it has been awhile

since he has been disillusioned with Rotary. It has made Bill think about what he is doing here. Bill feels that

without the sub committees the normal Rotarians do not have an involvement. The decision making is made

at the Director level and his understanding is that the Directors are directed by the committee, if we don’t

have the committee then it becomes a Director driven club. Which Bill feels it does not promote good fellow-

ship and interest from the point of view of the average Rotarian that feels; hey I have nothing to do. Perhaps

the directors can look at that as it is only his observation. We need to have more major projects in the pipe-

line, to foster interest in the future. Unless we get more members we will disappear. We need also to ad-

dress with these joint forums the reasons why members don't turn up for these meetings. The reason that

these meetings are boring should not be used as this is the time when issues should be raised and ad-

dressed. Bill said that we should remember what fellowship the club has had in the past and hopes this can

be rejuvenated. Bill reiterated the fact that all of the Rotarians need a job and a challenge.

President Norm responded to Bill by saying that we are trying this path as we are low in members so the

operation of a number of committees is not viable. We have had an additional Directors meeting where we

had to have a delicate chat and that was successful. We are a small club and having committees has never

really worked since he has been in Rotary. If it is the wrong path to follow we can review and correct it.

Norm agreed it would be good to have projects to get our teeth into, for example the Twin Cities Walk with

Phil Cousins and the Dolphin Race with Ray Perkins to do in conjunction with the Telethon Weekend. We

have also talked about the Music Bowl and he has asked Rebecca to look into that.

Owen Douglas also took Bills points as mentioned previously and summarised that the last 3 years have

been like this and have signified a slow decline in the Club. Owen said that the members attending the

meeting tonight are because we care. It has been the case of too much work is being done by too few. The

ones that don't turn up to these forums are the ones that should attend as we need their input. That is what

the forums are for to come up with a few ideas and move forward with selected projects. Because they hear

it’s a forum and don't turn up shows that they are possibly not interested. We need to have a discussion with

these other Rotarians and move forward.

Tom Drinkwater is now out of hospital and should be at the next meeting.

PADDY and MICK 2

Bloke at a horse race whispers to Paddy next to him, "Do you want the winner of the next race?"

Paddy replies "no tanks, oi've only got a small garden."

Paddy and Mick found 3 hand grenades and decided to take them to the police station.

Mick "What if one explodes before we get there?"

Paddy: "We'll lie and say we only found two!"

A coach load of paddies on a mystery tour decided to run a sweepstake to guess where they were going..... the driver won $52!

Paddy finds a sandwich with two wires stickin out of it. He phones the police and says "Bejasus I've just found a sandwich dat looks like a bomb."

The operator asks, "is it tickin?

Paddy says "No, oi tink it's beef"

Joe says to Paddy: "Close your curtains the next time you're making love to your wife. The whole street was watching and laughing at you yesterday."

Paddy says: "Well the joke's on them because I wasn't even at home yesterday."

Mick walks into Paddy's barn and catches him dancing naked in front of a tractor. Mick says, "Oi Paddy, what ya doing?"

Paddy says, "Well me and Mary haven't been getting on in the bedroom lately & the therapist recommended I do something sexy to a tractor."

The Irish have solved their own fuel problems. They imported 50 million tonnes of sand from the Arabs and they're going to drill for their own oil.

Paddy says to Mick - I'm ready for a holiday, only this year I'm going to do it a bit differ-ent. 3 years ago I went to Spain and Mary got pregnant. 2 years ago I went to Italy and Mary got pregnant. Last year I went to Majorca and Mary got pregnant."

Mick asks - So what are you going to do this year?."

Paddy replies, - I'll take her with me!
