CLUB HISTORYLike many local football clubs, the history of Rossington Main FC has been revised several times in recent years. Originally thought to have been formed in 1926, local knowledge has since revised this date to 1919 when ‘Rossington Colliery’ entered the Sheffield Association League, playing their fixtures on ground at the back of the Colliery offices. A club had competed under the Rossington Colliery name in 1917, but only since 1919 has the club been in continued existence.

The club moved to their current Oxford Street ground in 1921, and just a few years later enjoyed their best ever run in the FA Cup, reaching the 4th Qualifying Round in the 1924-25 season, where they were beaten 3-0 at Lincoln City. The club continued under the name Rossington Colliery for thirty years, enjoying its most successful season at the end of the Second World War when they did the ‘Doncaster Double’, winning both the Doncaster Senior League and Cup in 1944-45. Following the nationalisation of the mines in 1948, the club endured a change of name to Rossington Miners Welfare, and under this moniker they lifted the Doncaster Senior League Premier Division Cup in 1974.

In 1983, now known as Rossington Main, the club became founder members of the Central Midlands League, being promoted to the Premier Division as runners-up in their first season. The following year the club took the top flight by storm, winning the Premier Division title and completing the double with the Premier Division Cup. In 1991, following the erection of floodlights and a new Main Stand at Oxford Street which were christened with a friendly against Leeds United that attracted a crowd of around 1,200, the club made the step up to the Northern Counties East League and have remained in Division One ever since. In 1998, after lengthy negotiations, the club merged with near neighbours Rossington FC.

Formed as Station FC in the 1970s (initially changing in a small building at the pub of the same name for games on the adjacent Tornedale field) they had begun life in local Sunday football, but had progressed rapidly, relocating to Rossington Welfare and joining the Central Midlands League in 1986. Here they excelled early on, lifting nine awards in their first two seasons in the league including the Division One title in 1987-88.

Rossington FC continued to grow operating four teams; a Sunday side and an Under 18s team flanking their 1st and 2nd teams in the Central Midlands League. But, despite growth and development on the field the club

were unable to match the expectations of the Central Midlands League financially, and in 1998 they elected to leave the league; facilitating the merger.

Immediately after the merger Main ran both an over 35s and an under 18s team to much success. The over 35s made good progress in the Wragg Sheffield & Hallamshire League finishing Division 2A Champions in 2001 and Division 1A Runners-up the following year. Whilst the under 18s enjoyed continued success in the Doncaster & District Boys League. The club’s reserves, competing in the Doncaster & District League, have also enjoyed much success since the merger. They achieved a League and Cup Double in 2000, have reached the Cup final on three other occasions in the past decade, and finished as League runners-up just last season.

The early years of the 21st century weren’t as kind on the Rossington Main 1st team, but recently the club has enjoyed a revival of fortunes and reasserted itself at the heart of the community. In 2008 much work was done at Oxford Street to bring the club’s home back up to scratch, a job rewarded as the club hosted Doncaster Rovers,in a pre-season friendly.; the gate receipts from which enabled the club to regain a financially sound footing. Further ground improvements have followed each summer, as the club have looked to provide better facilities for players and supporters alike, most notable of which is the new clubhouse which has enabled the club to bring in much needed revenue. The pride in the club’s off the field set-up continued with the club’s programme picking up awards in both 2011 and 2012 whilst edited by Pete Murden.

Off field progress has been matched on the pitch too, with Main reaching the final of the Wilkinson Sword Trophy in 2011. And in 2011-12 the club enjoyed its best ever season in the Northern Counties East League, breaking club goalscoring and points records to finish seventh, despite losing 11 members of the 1st team squad along the way.

Rossington Main now operates two sides on a Saturday. The aims of the club are to provide a unified approach to football in the village so that there is a natural progression in the development of the game. The club strives to sustain competition at the highest possible and affordable level, to continue to provide excellent facilities for both players and spectators, to give opportunity for local players to progress, to reward loyalty and cater for the progression of football in the community of Rossington.

Goood afternoon and welcome to Oxford Street for this afternoon’s NCEL Division One fixture with Cleethorpes Town.

Though this is The Owls’ first season in the NCEL, it is not their first visit to Oxford Street, having played us in a friendly ahead of the 2011-12 season. As we did then we extend a warm welcome to all connected with Cleethorpes to the village today, and hope they leave with a positive impression... and no points.

After a tough start to 2013, we finally chalked up our first win of the year at the sicth time of asking last weekend courtesy of an entertaining fixture at Cleethorpes co-tenants Grimsby Borough. A well-taken hat-trick from Niall Doyle made the difference in a 4-3 win and despite the large number of players who have moved on from the

club in the past year and a half, its encouraging to see local lads like Niall progressing to the 1st XI and making their mark. Long may it continue.

This is the first game of a busy week here at Oxford Street and we hope you’ll join us here again on Tuesday night and next Saturday for our two pronged assault on the Sheffield & Hallamshire Cup. The 1st team host Staveley in the quarter-final of the Challenge Cup on Tuesday night, whilst Saturday sees the 2nd team look to continue their incredible run as they host Kirkburton in the Junior Challenge Cup semi-final. Please do try and make it down if you can to back your local sides. And make some noise for the lads today too of course.

ON THIS DAY

2002 // NCEL DIVISION ONEROSSINGTON MAIN 3-2 WINTERTON RANGERS

On this day eleven years ago Main continued an encouraging start to 2002 as they registered their fourth win in six matches since the turn of the year. This win over Winterton was also the first result in an unbeaten March as Main rose to finish a

creditable eight place in the NCEL Division One table. Winterton would finish the season just one place above Main in 7th, though this result offered some consolidation with Rossington having lost the reverse fixture 3-0 back in September.

1996 // CENTRAL MIDLANDS LEAGUE SUPREME DIVISIONLONG EATON UNITED 4-2 ROSSINGTON FC

Seventeen years ago today the pre-merger Rossington FC travelled to Long Eaton United in the Central Midlands League Supreme Division.

Despite a poor start to the season Rossington went into this game unbeaten since the turn of the year with three 1-1 draws plus a 5-1 tonking of Askern and a 7-2 thrashing of Hemsworth in the League Cup.

Rossington’s luck appeared to be continuing too as they took the lead at Long Eaton through winger Simon Smith and went into half-time 1-0 up.

However, despite a further goal for Rossington from Scott Henderson (who is currently back with our Reserves), the home side hit back after the break to run out 4-2 winners come full-time.

CENTRAL MIDLANDS LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISIONSLACK & PARR 1-1 ROSSINGTON FC1991 //

Twenty-two years ago today, seven years before the merger between Rossington FC and Rossington Main the former travelled to Derbyshire to face Slack & Parr in a Central Midlands League Premier Division match.

Missing regulars Shaun Breen and Lee Storey Rossington were dealt a further blow just a minute into the game as Aaron Moore was forced off with injury and replaced by John

Williamson. Both of the current Main management pairing were also in the Rossington side that day with Steve Lodge in goal, and Ian Wilson coming off the bench to replace Colin Holvey with twenty-five minutes to go.

By the time of Ian’s introduction Rossington had already found the net as Adie Newman, who went on to play for Main, finding the net just before the hour mark to ensure a creditable point for an injury hit side.

TODAY’S VISITORS

Cleethorpes Town has come a long way in its relatively short history. Initially formed in 1998 as a Lincolnshire Soccer School, it was the brainchild of former Grimsby Town player Tommy Watson. The team was an immediate success with both boys and girls across every age group and the club grew quickly.

In 2003 the club set up a flagship senior team. One of the main advantages for this side was that it would be used as an end-product for the youngsters - they could aspire to one day represent the club at the highest level possible. In the team’s first season in the Lincolnshire League, a credible fourth-place finish was secured and the foundations for the future were set. Now rebranded as Cleethorpes Town, the Club has developed into an important community outlet. With almost 30 teams competing at every level of local and regional football, the Owls are one of the largest clubs in the area - and still continue to expand in all areas too.

The excellent array of teams and high quality of coaching saw the Club awarded with Football Association Charter Standard Community Club Status - further underlining its commitment to providing high quality football coaching alongside enjoyment for youngsters.

The development and evolution of Cleethorpes Town Football Club has

A WARM WELCOME TO CLEETHORPES TOWNbeen spearheaded by the first team. When Andy Liddle took over as first team manager in November 2010, he oversaw a drastic change in the Owls’ fortunes. Upon his arrival, the first team were languishing in the lower echelons of the Sills & Betteridge Lincolnshire League. However, after an overhaul of the squad and backroom staff, he guided the club to an amazing third place finish in the 2010-11 season. In addition, the club collected the Supplementary Cup by defeating Heckington United at Sincil Bank.

They were keen to build on that success in the 2011/12 season, with the league title the most obvious aim. With a few additions to the sqaud, the Owls were ready to challenge again and began the season in sparkling form, winning their first seven fixtures. Liddle marked a year in the job with a 14-0 demolition of Sleaford Town Reserves in November 2011. Under him, Cleethorpes had still not lost a single game. More big wins followed as Cleethorpes entered the New Year with a league and cup double still well in sight.

The first fixture against their nearest rivals, Skegness United, came in February at Wainfleet Road. In what was expected to be a tough game, a Ricky Belding four-goal salvo saw Clee breeze past the second-placed side and establish themselves as firm title favourites.

Steve COOPER - Defender/MidfielderEnergetic midfielder Cooper is another summer signing from local football. He plays alongside his brother, Marc. Recently employed as a centre back.

The unbeaten run, standing at 42 matches, came to an end against Hykeham Town a week later but, with the speedy Luke Mascall in particularly dazzling form, Cleethorpes continued to find the net prolifically. At the other end too, the team was solid. Goalkeeper Scott Drury went eight league games without conceding a goal between 7th January and 24th March.

A 4-2 victory at home to Skegness United in April was enough to seal Cleethorpes’ first title. A few weeks later, the team regrouped to add the Challenge Cup to their trophy haul, beating Grimsby Borough Reserves in the final at Ashby Avenue. It was an extraordinary season. The team scored 130 league goals in 32 matches and conceded just 18.

At the end of May, Cleethorpes Town received the news that its first team had been accepted in the proposed constitution of the 2012/13 Baris Northern Counties East League. The club’s home, the newly-named Linden Homes Club on Clee Road, has been renovated and modernised and is now a facility that we are proud to call our home. However, in their debut NCEL Division One season, the club have played at the nearby Bradley Community Stadium alongside local rivals Grimsby Borough.

The club is determined to make further strides to improve and fulfill their immediate ambition of becoming North East Lincolnshire’s most successful lower league football club - for all ages, genders and abilities.

NEWS & FIXTURES

Our Sheffield & Hallamshire Cup Quarter Final opponents Staveley Miners Welfare have appointed a new manager, with Neil Cluxton stepping into the hot seat. Cluxton replaces Billy Fox who ended his very successful spell at Inkersall Road earlier this month to concentrate on work and business commitments. The club have been in a period of upheaval of late with an end to a sponsorship agreement with Baris, seeing finances tapered and as a result over fifteen players have left the club in the past month.

A club statement, published on the Staveley Miners Welfare website read; “First team coach James Earl offered his services and full blown commitment

as usual but the club felt it would in the short term be better for Neil and his reserves/under 19 management team to see the season out.

“A huge thank you to James for his great input and good luck to Neil and his team as we see how the young lads may now cope. It will, as usual, be an attempt to play football as we see it in the right way whatever team we put out.”

Whilst we don’t like to see any NCEL side struggle, Staveley’s recent problems could give us even greater hope of causing an upset in Tuesday night’s Quarter Final tie here at Oxford Street.

MAIN IN ACTIONSAT 16TH FEBRUARY // NCEL DIVISION ONEROSSINGTON MAIN 0-4 SHIREBROOK TOWN

There was an excellent attendance at Oxford Street for the visit of Shirebrook, who had shot up the table since our meeting at Langwith Road earlier in the season. This was now a club chasing promotion and our win at their ground was going to be very difficult to replicate as their entire squad has since changed, and we came into the game in the middle of a poor run of results.

That said, we did not help our cause as we found ourselves 2-0 down inside 12 minutes, which increased Shirebrook’s resolve and did little to boost our confidence. Ellis Wall struck the first with a curling effort from twenty yards, before Mitcham Husbands capitalised on good work by Tom Mullen to double the visitors’ advantage. Before the game’s first quarter was up it was 3-0 to Shirebrook as Mitcham Husbands grabbed his second goal, slotting home Mullen’s through-ball.

Both Niall Doyle and Nathan Fraser had brief sights of goal midway through the half, but for the entire first forty-five minutes we struggled to get a worthwhile attempt on target and our visitors were able to dominate the game.

The second half was a slightly more contested event and the introduction of all three substitutes seemed to give

us more of a cutting edge, particularly young Marcel Chipamunga on the wide right, who was actually managing to take his full-back on and cause problems. We did finish the match much better than we had started it but by then Shirebrook were four goals to the good and their promotion push was accelerated. Their fourth and final goal having come with twenty-five minutes still to play as sub Daniel Williams managed to shoot past Liam Copley at his near-post.

Safe to say this was a disappointing result and performance at the end of a week where we conceded thirteen goals in three matches and only scored one ourselves. Main Line-UpLiam Copley; Danny Taylor, Nathan Cook, David Holvey, Brad Billam; Ben Clark (Marcel Chipamunga), John Tunney (Reece Brailey), Scott Spencer, Niall Doyle; Brandon Fallon, Nathan Fraser, (Scott Maughan).Unused SubsJordan Wildey, Dan Lodge

MAIN IN ACTIONSAT 23RD FEBRUARY // NCEL DIVISION ONEGRIMSBY BOROUGH 3-4 ROSSINGTON MAIN

With limited resources it is difficult to ring the changes following a disappointing performance, one can only encourage the players to accept more responsibility and hope that they respond in some way themselves. With Grimsby having enjoyed an encouraging 2-0 midweek success at Dinnington, the omens did not look good as we made our way over to the East coast and they certainly didn’t improve when we went a goal down inside 7 minutes. A free-kick falling for Gary Deakins to slot home as the Main back-line appealed for a very plausible offside that wasn’t given.

However, an equaliser within virtually a minute seemed to inspire us and our confidence grew as we began to dominate much of the half. The goal coming from a clinical finish by Niall Doyle on the half-volley to round off some good work on by Dean Thornton on the right. Buoyed by the equaliser, we could well have taken the lead much sooner than we eventually did do. Doyle on hand again in almost the same position on the half hour mark to deliver another confident finish. As we went in for the interval one could only speculate that we had not converted all our chances; had we done so the game would have been won after 45 minutes.

Grimsby obviously received a roasting at half-time for they came out with much more purpose and energy after

the break, but we witheld their charge and began creating chances of our own again. On the hour mark Doyle completed an excellent hat-trick when he swept in a Fallon cross at the far post and at 3-1 we looked comfortable for all three points.

Grimsby however pulled a goal back with quarter of an hour to go when young Jordan Wildey spilt a shot from the edge of the box leaving a tap-in for Andrew Taylor and now we began to look nervous. With five minutes to go a flowing move down the left flank ended with Thornton scoring an excellent 4th goal for the Main which should have made us safe, but we contrived to make our supporters sweat that bit more as we conceded a late goal in added time; John Waugh getting onto a ball over the top to slot past Wildey.

However , thankfully the whistle soon sounded on a much needed and deserved win (our first of 2013) and a much improved team performance, made all the sweeter on a day when our relegation rivals below us all lost. Main Line-UpJordan Wildey; Danny Taylor, Nathan Cook (Reece Brailey), David Holvey, Brad Billam; Brandon Fallon (Adam Wisdom), John Tunney, Scott Spencer, Niall Doyle; Nathan Fraser, Dean Thornton (Marcel Chipamunga)

IN RESERVE

The 2nd team suffered their first Cup defeat of the season against Div.1 high-fliers Hemsworth M.W. in an entertaining encounter at Oxford Street, the pitch just drying out following a midweek flood when a stand-pipe was broken. The 1st half belonged very much to the home side and they led 2-0 following errors in the Hemsworth defence, the first the result of an own goal and then Coburn chipped into an empty net from 25 yards as keeper and defender collided on the edge of the 18 yard box. A change in fortunes appeared a possibility when the visitors pulled a goal back on the stroke of half-time.

The real turning point came 5 minutes after the interval when keeper Lodge was dismissed for verbal abuse to the linesman who had clearly missed an offside decision in the lead-up to Hemsworth’s equalising goal. Reduced to 10 men we were always going to

struggle against a determined Hemsworth MW side who were now in very confident mood and looked far sharper in attack. Stand-in keeper Coburn had no chance with an excellent 3rd goal by the visitors and as we pushed forward in search of some consolation, we were often left exposed at the back and Hemsworth scored 2 late goals to clinch a victory which had looked very unlikely after 40 minutes of play. The sending-off incident had proved a significant factor in this Cup tie.

FOOTBALL’S FAULTS CONTINUING MAIN ISSUE’S LOOK AT FOOTBALL’S UGLY SIDE

NO. 11. FRANCHISING & REBRANDINGFranchising and Rebranding, two words which, like ‘Shearer’s analysis’ and ‘Ken Bates’, really have no place in football. These are business terms, spoken by business people, they are not for sport. Yet thanks to media overhype of the top flight, a lack of care from the governing body of the game, and supporter apathy, they have been allowed to seep into usage within modern football.

That football fans are familiar with franchising is down to another couple of evil football words; Pete Winkleman. Looking like the love child of Jimmy Bullard and Mick Hucknall, Winkleman decided that he wanted League football in Milton Keynes. Nothing wrong with that, but rather than invest in one of the city’s many long standing non-league teams like Wolverton, he chose instead to relocate Wimbledon there. The thing about football teams in this country is that rather than be known as ‘The Dodgers’ or ‘the Raiders’ that the key element of their name is, much like David Beckham’s offspring, the town in which they were conceived. They are fabric of a community, and communities and the spirit within them cannot be shifted up the M1.

So that was and is franchising, a curious concept which reached a most ridiculous point earlier this season season when MK Dons and the reborn Wimbledon met in the FA Cup and we had the unsettlingsight of supporters holding up MK Dons

and Wimbledon half-and-half scarves, celebrating both the team they had chosen to adopt despite its origins, and the one they killed off.

Rebranding is a term which has been aired this season thanks to billionaire Vincent Tan’s decision to treat Cardiff like his own corporate plaything. He has changed the crest, he has changed the playing kit, and now this week he has refused to rule out changing the club’s name. It is all oddly dictatorial, from making bold statements about accepting his way or else, to handing out free scarves in order to shuffle in the change.

“Do I look stupid?” Tan this week asked an interviewer, whilst sat in a gaudy nouveau chair with his French beat poet facial hair and John Lennon specs wearing a red Cardiff City shirt beneath a red suit. No, course not. That Cardiff are winning games, seems to be enough justification for disregarding a significant section of the club’s traditional support in order to win over a bit of backing from people millions of miles away. Tan suggested it would be foolish to stick with blue as the club had never had any success in that colour. And when you look at how much more successful Wales have been than Italy say, or how many more honours Doncaster have won than Chelsea its clearly a foolproof strategy. So forget the franchising, forget the branding, and give me a walk to my local ground any given Saturday instead.

MEET THE MAIN MENSteve Lodge (Manager)Steve took over the reigns for the end of the 2010/11 season, leading the club to the Wilkinson Sword Trophy. Last season, Steve’s first full season in charge, was also successful as the first team broke a number of club records to achieve their best NCEL finish. A firm believer in club spirit, which is why most players and officials at the club are local.

Ian Wilson (Assistant Manager)A former Wales youth and amateur international Ian also does an excellent job as club groundsman amongst other roles. Previously in charge of Rossington FC, he took that club from local Sunday football to the top flight of the Central Midlands League

Lee ApplebyNow in his 7th season at the Main, making him one of the top appearance makers in recent years Lee was instrumental in our record breaking season last year with some outstanding performances and 12 clean sheets. Dedicated, honest and hardworking as well as agile, quick and boasting superb handling Lee is one of the best keepers the NCEL has to offer.

Jordan WildeyYoung Jordan will provide competition for the number one shirt this year after some impressive displays in tough games for both 1st and 2nd teams last season where he performed maturely and competently. He is a fantastic shot stopper, agile and very confident.

Bradley BillamFlying full back Brad continues to grow at left back; combining athleticism, confidence and consistency with a willingness to work forwards and backwards to become a valuable member of the Main squad. His attacking prowess was clear to see last year as he was credited with 8 assists.

Dan ElcoatPrimarily a central defender, Dan can play anywhere across the back four and also in

central midfield. He is strong in the air and tenacious in the tackle, boasting good communication skills and a strong desire to play.

Chris HansonChris joined the Main late last season from Yorkshire Main, playing a versatile role in the Rossington defence. Chris is calm in possession and is a good reader of the game.

Tom HarteVery good on the ball and well organised Tom came back to football last year after some time away from the game. He played with the Reserves last season but has shown during pre-season that he is capable of becoming a 1st team player.

David Holvey2011/12 Manager’s Player of the Year; Club Captain Dave lead by example last year and his never say die attitude and loyalty to the club make him an invaluable asset. A great leader and robust defender Dave is also capable of pin-point long range passes that turn defence quickly into attack.

Dean JonesDean can play in any position across the back four, as he has done for the Reserves. Another player to return to the game after some time away, Dean is a good footballer and very good in the air.

Will Rowley2011/12 Reserves Players’ Player of the Year. Long-time Main man Will is an old school central defender who provided some excellent displays last season. Solid in the air, well-timed in the tackle and a threat at set pieces he is reliable and extremely valuable for both sides.

Richard SpearsVery hard working, committed and energetic, Richard played an important role in the club’s strong 2011/12 campaign. Richard will no doubt look to continue working hard to cement his place in the team.

1919 Q & AAS ROSSINGTON MAIN WERE FORMED IN 1919, WE PROVIDE 19

QUESTIONS & 19 ANSWERS TO HELP YOU GET TO KNOW THE MAIN MENThis afternoon’s interviewee is last season’s 1st team Assistant Manager

and this season’s 2nd team goalkeeper; DAN LODGE

Q1. When was your debut for Rossington Main & who was it against?A1. I was 15 when I made my reserves debut at Mexbrough. My first team game came when I was 16 (August 2005) in the FA Cup, at home against Washington Nissan where we lost 2-1. Richard Sennett was in charge, he saw me training with the Over 35 team and asked me if I would be interested in playing in the FA Cup…and I jumped at the chance, of course! Q2. First footballing memory?A2. My first training session with my junior side at 9 years old.

Q3. First team you played for?A3. Rossington Juniors FC, loved every minute of it!

Q4. Which team do you support?A4. Although I’m not a die hard, I do follow Sunderland. I’ve never really had a club, just a general football fan I suppose.

Q5. Which footballer was your boyhood hero?A5. Zinedine Zidane. I loved watching him play, the man was a genius.

Q6. Who do you consider the greatest player in your position? A6. I would have to say Gary Neville. A very good right back and a fantastic attitude, the man was a winner!

Q7. What was the first professional game you ever went to watch?A7. I went to watch Sheffield Wednesday play Man United at Hillsbrough, I think it was 1995, about 7 years old.

Q8. If you could travel in time to attend any match ever which would you choose?A8. It would have to be the 1966 World Cup Final! The biggest game in English football history!

Q9. What is your favourite ever football kit? A9. My brother had an away Newcastle shirt. It was purple and dark blue hoops with a cream round neck collar! Cream shorts and blue and purple hooped sock. Very smart.

Ferdinand & Ginola in Lodge’s favourite kit

Page 35: Rossington Main vs Cleethorpes Town 2012-13

MAIN ISSUE // Official Matchday Magazine of Rossington Main FC 35

the lead), 11. Dean Saunders.

Q11. Favourite ground you have ever played at (apart from Oxford Street obviously)?A11. I played at Glandford Park when I was at Scunthorpe as an under 16, had a nightmare. My favourite NCEL ground would be Winterton, I like the surface there.

Q12. If you could play at any ground in the world which would it be?A12. The Nou Camp!

Q13. What is your most prized footballing possession?A13. I have the match programme from the last game to be played at the Old Wembley! It was a fantastic occasion, despite the result

Q14. What is your proudest achievement in football so far?A14. Serving as the Main’s Assistant Manager last season alongside my Dad. We had the most successful season in the Main’s NCEL history. I would love to go back into the coaching and management side of the game when my playing time comes to an end… again.

Q15. Sum what Rossington Main means to you in 5 words or less. A15. Proud to be a Blue

Q18. Who is the best player you have ever played against? A18. An ageing Chris Waddle once sat me on my backside without even touching the ball. He was playing for Staveley. He barely moved but he was class! He ran the game from the left wing, I struggled big time! I was about 17 years old, great education! Q19. MEET THE MAIN MENShaun PendletonShaun played the majority of last season at centre back before moving into central midfield where he put in some great displays. Versatile and very professional in his approach, Shaun is a hard worker. His defensive attributes are as impressive as his offensive ones. A very strong passer of the ball, he can play a vital role in playmaking from deeper positions.

John TunneyJohn joins the club from Yorkshire Main after several very successful seasons there. A versatile player who is equally capable of playing anywhere in defence or midfield.

Marcel ChipamungaYoung local lad Marcel is making his first steps into senior football this season, hoping to gain experience and develop as a player. Marcel has already shown the management team that he has bags of potential and willingness to learn.

Ben ClarkYoung and enthusiastic with a good attitude to learning the game. wide man Ben is also making his first step into senior football. He is full of pace and positive running which will no doubt cause a problem for defenders.

Niall DoyleAs the Reserve team captain Niall has become an important part of the club, helping the Reserves to a close title race last season. Niall likes to keep the ball moving and push forward into goal scoring positions whenever possible.

Nathan FraserAnother very versatile player who is naturally gifted, Nathan loves to attack and run at players and his creativity could prove important . Nathan’s ability to play out wide, down the middle, up front and even at the back makes him a key squad member.

Jonathan MirfinMain’s 2011/12 Supporters’ Player of the Year. Jonathan continues to impress at the Main with consistent displays in the centre of

midfield. Jonathan rarely gives the ball away, starting attacks and creating chances for his team mates. The controlled midfielder is also useful from free-kicks.

Danny TaylorDanny joins the club from Askern this season and can play across the midfield and at full back, is very confident in possession and looks after the ball well.

Brandon FallonBrandon burst into the Main squad in March. Tall, powerful and very quick and for such a young lad he fits in very well at this level. After only seven appearances last season, we are waiting to see even more of Brandon this year.

Tom McLaughlinPace, dribbling and finishing are just three attributes that make Tom a very dangerous opponent for defenders. He can play up front or on either wing. Tom joins after several seasons with Askern Villa and will be looking to cement a starting role at the Main this term.

Scott MaughanThe club’s overall top scorer last season.as he make his return to football after some time away from the game. It proved very successful as he fired the Reserves into a title chasing spot. Scott is a natural finisher who comes alive around the penalty area.

Dean ThorntonA former regular scorer for the Reserves, Dean has returned to force his way into the 1st team. Dean is excellent with his back to goal and good in the air, but equally as effective running past the back four. A natural finisher and confident in front of goal.

Adam WisdomAdam is blessed with pace and power and his physical attributes and appetite to work make him a handful for opponents. A threat running beyond defenders, but really comes alive from close range, where he scored all of his goals last season.
