Erica & Todd Salida

Real Wedding

Erica and Todd have known each other since the 6th grade. After staying friends all through

Middle School, High School, and even College, something changed when Todd

moved to Colorado. Erica knew on their first date that he was “the one!” The two celebrated

their love on a beautiful bluebird sky day September 7, 2013, in Salida. Their wedding was a perfect celebration of all the little things

they love!

rockymountainbride.com 23

Page 26: Rocky Mountain Bride Colorado Summer 2014

The colors: The color base was made up of grey, navy, and black neutrals mixed in with natural elements, such as bark and wood. The flowers acted as the color pop of rich burgundies and corals. Tones of lavender, blue, and turquoise were spotted throughout the wedding.

The theme: Erica and Todd’s wedding was a collection of everything they loved. They mixed Colorado mountains with rustic whimsy to create a look that represented them perfectly.

The dress: Erica wore a vintage cut Monique Lhuillier Gown. Erica fell in love with the sweetheart neckline, the silk fabric, the delicate beading in the straps, and the train of the gown.

The flowers: Erica wanted local, natural, wild, and whimsical flowers.

24 rockymountainbride.com

Real Wedding

Page 27: Rocky Mountain Bride Colorado Summer 2014

Favorite detail: Erica loved that the wedding felt like Todd and herself. They wanted the day to honor who they are, while they celebrated their love for each other. It was a combination of their favorite things and their favorite people.

Advice for RMB Bride’s: “A Day of Coordinator is key! Give you and your soon-to-be husband the day to take it all in and be together. A Coordinator will take care of all the behind the scenes logistics. When it comes to details, don’t sweat the small stuff. My advice is to start big, focus on your overall concept, and the small touches will work themselves in naturally. Most importantly, take a moment on your wedding day, look around, and be grateful. Some time during the reception, sneak off for a minute to reflect, then look back at the beautiful group of people that are there to support you. You are very lucky!”

The cake: Taste was #1 for Erica and Todd, so they chose their favorite flavors: carrot cake, mocha, and coconut!

The food: Keeping the food local was very important to Erica and Todd. They had a buffet featuring fish, beef, falafel, roasted vegetables, and even Yak meatballs!

The honeymoon: The newlyweds jetted away to Bali for 2 weeks!

Summer Styles

Learn the how-to’s for these 3 looks! By: Janie Rocek Photography: Marcus Edwards Photography

Model: Elizabeth O’Keefe

Style & Beauty

What bridal hairstyles will we be seeing in 2014? There were a lot of great hairstyles that graced the runways at Bridal Fashion Week 2014 and I picked three genres I thought would be wearable for this coming

summer season - get ready for braids (of all types!), ornate ponytails, and voluminous hair.

Side Fishtail BraidCreate a horseshoe section at the top of the head and pin it out of the way. Starting on the right side of the head, grab a small section towards the top front of your head to create a fishtail braid. As you braid, add small sections wrapping around the head from the back side of the braid only. Be sure to be directing your braid to the front of the shoulder.

Leave hair at the bottom to create another fishtail braid. When you create this braid, you will start on the left side of the head, only adding from the bottom side of the braid. Be sure to direct it towards the front to join the other braid. Clip those two braids temporarily at the bottom.

Create a french braid from the hair pinned on the top of your head. Elevate the braid as you want volume. Continue braiding until you meet up with the other two braids. Take the three braids, let the ends unbraid a little so you can create one big fishtail braid over the right shoulder. Use a clear elastic tie to hold the fishtail, or take a hair section, wrap the ends, spray with Aquage Transforming Spray, and flatiron to make a “hair” tie.

Double French Twist Ponytail

Voluminous Faux Bob

Create three partings. Backcomb one of the back sections from the front to the center back using an Aquage Detailing Brush and Biomega Firm and Fabulous hairspray.

1

2After backcombing, brush surface smooth with Aquage Smoothing Brush towards the center back, roll hair into french twist and pin in. Repeat on other side.

Backcomb the top section using the same technique. To create volume, be sure to elevate the hair straight up while backcombing. After smoothing and controlling, drape the section over the center where the two french twists join. You can either leave it as is, or add a few bobby pins to secure the ponytail in.

3

Backcomb and brush the top of the hair into place. Part a small section starting on the side of the head with the least amount of hair. Subdivide that section into two and twist the two sections together loosely to the ends.

1

Take a tiny section from the bottom, hold it with one hand, and push up the other section with the other hand. This will create a drawstring effect on the hair.

2

Wrap the ends around your finger and pin into base of head using two bobby pins to create an X to lock the section in. Repeat around the circumference of the head, making sure not to part the hair too far up, so no part lines are in the hairstyle.

Julie & Nate Longmont

Real Wedding

36 rockymountainbride.com

Since Nate and Julie’s first dance on February 13th, 1999, the two have been inseparable! And on their 13th anniversary, Nate completely surprised Julie and asked her to be his forever!

The two wed on September 29th, 2013, at YaYa Farm & Orchard on a perfect fall day.

Page 39: Rocky Mountain Bride Colorado Summer 2014

rockymountainbride.com 37

Real Wedding

The theme: The style was modern-vintage and rustic elegance, featuring local and seasonal aspects. Julie tells us that a farm was the perfect place for her wedding.

The colors: They chose peach, blush, ivory, and grey as their main palette, with pops of coral and red.

The dress: Julie wore a simple strapless Nicole Miller gown, with a fitted bodice, sweetheart neckline, and a dramatically flared hem. The sash was “rada” from BHLDN, that she had dyed to match the gown!

The flowers: Julie wanted her flowers to be fun and romantic, with lots of texture and free form. She used ferns, amaranthus, dahlias, old fashioned roses, and berries for her design.

The favorite detail: “Our ceremony. We wrote our own vows, and helped plan out the whole Ceremony. It was very personal and meaningful. We didn’t share our vows with each other until the ceremony. We loved hearing what each other had written and we were both surprised by how many similarities there were in what we said to each other.”

Page 40: Rocky Mountain Bride Colorado Summer 2014

38 rockymountainbride.com

Real Wedding

The unexpected: Nate and Julie had planned their entire wedding at The Lyon’s Farmette, but two weeks prior to the wedding, the entire region was hit with the 100 year flood that people are still recovering from. Thankfully, they found a hidden gem in YaYa Farm & Orchard! “Everything turned out so beautiful, it was meant to be,” Julie tells us.

The sweets: Instead of the traditional cake, Nate and Julie served apple cider donuts and burnt caramel ice cream with maldon salt. Delish!

The food: Nate and Julie sourced local food for their guest to enjoy - butternut squash and apple soup, a wood-fired vegetable salad and an assortment of wood-fired pizzas from Basta, made fresh on site.

Advice for RMB Brides: “Everything works out! At the end of the day you are marrying the person you love and that is all that really matters. Have fun and enjoy the moment!”

Jessica & Jose Parker

Real Wedding

rockymountainbride.com 45

Jessica and Jose wed on September 21st 2013, at Villa Parker. While living in the Big Apple, the two met online, and in a New York minute they were in love! Over Labor Day weekend, Jose proposed to Jessica overlooking the Brooklyn Bridge. Their wedding day was filled with love, laughter, and even a Mariachi band!

Page 48: Rocky Mountain Bride Colorado Summer 2014

46 rockymountainbride.com

Real Wedding

The colors: Jessica chose classic ombre shades of blush, white, and navy as her palette.

The dress: “MAGICAL! Inspired by Reem Acra Fall 2013 line with heavy embellishment and silk chiffon. I didn’t want to have a wedding dress “off the rack”. I worked with my good friend Natalie designing the wedding dress. The simple shape, plus the ombre effect in the skirt was amazing. I bought all the fabric, beaded lace and rhinestones in NYC. My mother draped and created the pattern herself, and hand sewed the entire dress herself.”

The flowers: Jessica had lots of Garden Roses, Ranunculus, and Dusty Miller in the wedding design.

Favorite detail: Jessica’s favorite detail was how much fun everyone had! Even her 86 year-old Grandma was on the dance floor.

Three adjectives: Romantic, beautiful, FUN

Page 49: Rocky Mountain Bride Colorado Summer 2014

Real Wedding

rockymountainbride.com 47

The first dance: The two danced to “At last” by Etta James. “We both are in our mid 30s, with many relationships over the years, and when we found each other it was love at first sight. I knew we/I had found “the one” right away. Jose called his mom in Paraguay the day after our first date and told her that he found the girl he was going to marry.”

The special memories: “It was such a blessing to see how our families, who spoke different languages, still were able to communicate, cry together, and laugh together thru all the speeches. It was a very special thing to experience.”

The cake: The cake had a ruffle and ombre effect, with three different flavors for each tier - coconut cake, chocolate with fresh strawberries, and lemon!

Advice for RMB Bride’s: “Get married at Villa Parker during the fall. The trees, the weather, and the customer service is the best!”

Trends Meet Lacielle Roselle

With metallic and gold trending, how are you incorporating them into your designs?

I truly believe in how beautiful rhinestones, crystals and sparkly beads are. I use Swarovski rhinestones because they have an amazing quality, and I can’t get enough of them! In my studio, which is my favorite place to be, I have lots of pretty antique jars full of silver and gold plated beads, rhine-stones, and sew on beads in gold and silver metal settings. Heavily embel-lished headpieces, encrusted elements of wedding adornments, are con-sidered statement accessories. Most of my brides prefer them to traditional bridal accessories, like veils and tiaras.

What inspires your romantic designs?

Creating headpieces is my way of expressing myself. I usually find myself spending hours looking at bridal magazines, and reading books on French fashion of the 18th century. I am so in love with elegant mini hats, embel-lished with silk roses and velvet leaves. I strive to create something that is both vintage and modern at the same time. That is why I stick to designs used in the past, and apply modern techniques to show off my way of making headpieces. I love headpieces because they complement women in a very special way, they photograph beautifully, and they capture desired attention.

What is an up and coming trends you are

seeing in bridal fashion? In my opinion, delicate and luxurious lace is becoming more popular this wedding season. Lace and embroidery incorporated into bridal sashes, headpieces, and veils, as well as encrusted adornments are in high demand these days. They photograph beautifully, they make brides look romantic, and elegant - heavily beaded accessories and headpieces are a key element.

Most brides prefer flower crowns that they can keep for years, and that is where creating silk flowers comes in handy - ethereal wedding gowns embellished with velvet sashes and beaded flowers, cathedral length veils, and of course, custom made garters. There’s so much to choose from, at times it seems that the hardest part for a bride is to determine what style they love the most. Variety can be excit-ing, so experimenting is required to achieve the best results.

Dear RMB readers, I am so honored to introduce myself to you! My name is Irina Francis and I’m the designer of Lacielle Roselle ®.Lacielle Roselle ® is based out of Port-land, OR and officially began in 2011. My educational background is in linguistics and international communication but slowly I started getting inter-ested in fashion, design and styling. Combining them all led to discovering my niche and turning it into my business inspired by intricate embroidery, millinery techniques and timeless beauty. Being a lover of languages, I find myself spending hours reading books in French, studying the art of photography, painting, drawing or simply sol-dering. Now I am learning the art of calligraphy, and even though I am self-taught, I never cease to explore new ways and techniques.I have got my mini studio which I am currently turning into my perfect little space filled with antique findings. I’ve got my loving husband Scott who has been supporting my every step, my passion for travelling, and our 6 adorable Zebra Finches. As for my plans for the near future, I am planning to open my own online shop to sell custom made postcards inspired by organic paper and botanic drawings I collect. Yours Truly,

Meet

Maggie Evans Designs

How would you describe your wedding dress designs?

I love the artistic freedom in design, and mixing edgy textures and cuts with a soft and feminine outline. I love using organic and natural fabrics in all my designs, and mixing in vintage laces and reusable textiles. My background is in Fine Arts, so I approach each gown very sculpturally - letting the dress take shape naturally. I always start with a loose design, but then let the fabric and textures mold the dress into the final product. Each dress is a hand-crafted work of art.

What fabrics do you love to work with?I have a stock of gorgeous repurposed fabrics and vintage laces that always seem to inspire my designs the most. I almost exclusively work with organic and sustainable silk. Most brides don’t know how versatile silk can be! Raw silk gives the fabric a linen-like look, while bamboo silk gives it that traditional sheen. The natural color of silk is fabulous; a rich ivory that complements everyone!

How silk is created acts as a metaphor for the bride. A silk worm makes a cocoon, and transforms into its most beautiful form, much like a bride transforms into her most beautiful form as a wife on her wedding day.

With your new studio space, what’s up and coming for Maggie Evans Designs?

I am excited to be doing trunk shows later this year in Seattle at Cicada Bridal and Pittsburgh at Glitter and Grit! With my new space, I also want to start cultivating a community for brides to come, relax, and connect with other brides on the emotional part of wedding planning. I will be offering workshops on helping brides discover how to create a dress that reflects who they are, inside and out. It will all be about connecting around the deeper meaning of that “little white dress.”

Page 63: Rocky Mountain Bride Colorado Summer 2014

Trends

rockymountainbride.com 61

What are all the wonderful reasons why brides should create a

custom wedding dress? My passion is being able to sit down with a bride and talk about the things that inspire her, the clothes she adores, and the way she wants to look on her wedding day. The bride dictates 100% the dress, I am just the creator of her vision. Working with the bride, I am able to sculpt a gown that shows off all the features she loves, and create something that reflects her inner self perfectly.

Brides need to know that there is not a definition of what they should look like on wedding day - it’s up to each women to create her own definition of “the dress.” Think outside the box when it comes to your wedding dress; don’t feel pressure to pick a mainstream design. Choose to wear a gown that expresses who you are. Custom provides freedom for brides to choose the dress of their dreams, made with love for them.

For dressmaker, Maggie Evans, the design and creation of a wedding dress is always collaborative and she is constantly drawing inspiration from her beloved brides, as well as other artist folk. Team Land of OZ

Team Dark Debutante The design was inspired by the 1930’s and 40’s in the deep south - playing on the idea of a New Orleans southern speak easy, with a sultry and darker vibe.

The inspiration was based on the idea that weddings should be for all couples in love. The design was art deco, mixed with cosmopolitan glam.

The design was inspired by the idea that the wicked witch of the west deserved a fabulous wedding. The look was complete with ruby red slippers!

Real Wedding

Erin & MichaelGrand Junction

Erin and Michael exchanged vows in front of friends and family on a October 5th, 2013, at Two Rivers Winery and Chateau. The two met at a

coffee shop, and the rest was history! With fall being thier favorite time of year, they wouldn’t have changed a single thing about their perfect wedding day.

The colors: As the fall is Erin and Michael’s favorite time of year, they chose rich hues of yellow, orange, and burgundy.

The dress: Erin described her dress as “elegant, with just the right amount of sparkle.”

The flowers: Erin chose natural, wild, organic, and beautiful fall inspired flowers.

The favorite detail: Erin tells us that her favorite detail of the wedding was “being able to have the Chateau, for us and the entire wedding party, the night before the wedding, and night of too! it gave us the chance to celebrate and catch up with everyone.”

The first dance: The first dance was Lyle Lovett, “In my own mind.” Erin is a huge fan of Lyle Lovett!

The special memories: “I have two! Our officiate and pastry chef are good friends, and we were blessed to have them involved. The second was that we were able to have our two dogs in the wedding. Together, they made our wedding very personal and unique.”

The cake: Erin and Michael had cupcakes made by their good friend. The flavors were chocolate with chocolate and Two Rivers Port cream frosting, vanilla with vanilla cream frosting, and pumpkin with cream cheese frosting. They all were decorated with edible, hand painted leaves.

The food: Guest enjoyed BBQ beef brisket and chicken breast with salad and vegetables for dinner.

The unexpected: A surprise fly rod salute from all Erin and Michael’s fly fishing buddies as they were introduced at the reception!

Radient Orchid

Purple is a rich color that can set the tone for any event. Stick with saturated purples and violets to create a romantic and whimsical look. We pulled from the grey hues of Radient Orchid to create this table.Delicate details, metallics, and bold floral gives it the wow factor!

Inspiration

Page 80: Rocky Mountain Bride Colorado Summer 2014

Cayenne Corals, oranges, and deep pinks are the perfect complement to a summertime “I Do!” The burst of color found in the deep coral tone of “cayenne” is the perfect complement to golds, peachs, and wood. For the design, we want-ed a sophisticate and playful table - notice the metallic figurines and pear name card hold-ers! Though the shapes and gold hues are all different, they work per-fectly together.

Dazzling Blue

Blues, greens, and turquoise colors shout out summer. While we in Colorado are land-locked, dont be afriad to use these coastal shades. Replace traditional “beach” elements with what’s native to Colorado - Antlers act as “western driftwood.” Instead of decor or floral creating a statement, linens can create the wow factor. Find fabrics that add the perfect color pop for your wedding!

Maxwell’sSteakhouse & New American Cuisine

the food Maxwell’s kitchen is run by Chef Egelhoff, whose accolades and awards can be seen in the food. When couple’s work with Maxwell’s for their wedding, food quickly becomes a focal point. The owner, Molly Maxwell, believes in making the event food-focused; choosing menu items that steer clear of the traditional “country club” fare, where chicken, beef, and salmon get overused and turn out bland.

The Maxwell kitchen believes is using local and fresh ingredients in customized and creative menus that will leave guest raving about the food! Molly lets all her couples know that if they see or taste something they love to share it with Chef Egelhoff, and he will recreate the dish! That’s how they are constantly coming up with creative foods to offer for weddings.

Matching food to a couple’s hometown is another thing that Molly strives to do. “One of my favorite menus came from a wedding last summer. The bride was from Texas, the groom from Louisiana, so we tied created hors de’ oeuvres representing their southern roots, such as shrimp n’ grits, quail, and Texas BBQ. For dinner we highlighted Colorado local cuisine and served pistachio-crusted lamb with a black fig and ruby port sauce, a beef tenderloin carving station with a cabernet demi-glaze, and a halibut lemon burre blanc. In addition, guest enjoyed truffle whipped mashed potatoes, bacon and blue cheese brussel sprouts, and blistered asparagus. To top off the night, the s’mores bar was a sweet treat, and buffalo burger sliders was the perfect late night snack.
