KidStat Data Protocol

Part 1: Strengths and Positive Connections (5 minutes)

• What are the student’s strengths and positive connections to school?

• Where is the student currently experiencing success and/or improvement?

Part 2: Challenges (5 minutes)

• What are the student’s challenges and prioritized growth areas?

• Why does the student experience difficulty in these areas? What are the root causes?

Part 3: Action Plan (5 minutes)

• What are our next steps to support this student in reaching/maintaining on-track achievement, or earning B’s or better?

• Who will serve as this student’s case manager, coordinating next steps and reporting back to the group on progress in several weeks?

On-Track Student Conferences

Who?

What?

When?

Students conference with an adult who may or may not be one of their classroom teachers.

During the conference, the student and teacher discuss the student’s attendance, behavior, grades, and on-track status.

Why?

Conferences will ideally happen several times per year, around the end/start of each new marking period. This will support students in setting goals to improve their on-track status.

• Ensure every student knows what it takes to be on-track to graduation and college and career readiness.

• Provide students with regular updates on their on-track status and discuss concrete strategies to improve performance.

• Develop student agency and additional student/adult connections.• Improve student outcomes and post-secondary success.

Student On-Track Progress Report

During each conference, the teacher and student use an on-track progress

report to ground their conversation in data.

Conference Protocol

Part I: Data Review (1-2 minutes)

Review the student’s data profile with them. Explain the different sections of the report: attendance, behavior, grades, PSAT scores, and on-track summary.

Part 2: Discussion Questions (3-5 minutes)

1. What are your hobbies/interests? Are you involved in any clubs or sports?

2. Where are you experiencing the greatest success/improvements?

3. Which class is most challenging for you? Why?

4. Over the next few months, what is one goal you have for yourself?

5. How can teachers and staff support you in achieving your goal?

and planning.
