Week 4 Term 2
Dear Parents and Carers,
It has been a very busy past fortnight with many successful events and programs.
In the last newsletter, I mentioned that in forthcoming weeks we will be analysing in a bit more depth the strategic
directions for our current 2015-2017 School Plan.
Strategic Direction 2 - Excellence in Teaching and Leading
Through this direction, we aim to “plan, deliver and evaluate effective evidence-based teaching and leadership
practices that cater for all students with an emphasis on improvement in student outcomes and performance growth”.
Key Processes to drive this include:
Evidence-based pedagogy (Quality Teaching Framework/Differentiation) is well planned and delivered effectively
and efficiently.
Examples
Focus on the professional development of teachers and delivery of The Quality Teaching Framework
(Three Dimensions: Intellectual Quality, Quality Learning Environment and Significance; and 18
Supporting Elements focussing on excellence in teaching practice and assessment).
Focus on differentiating the curriculum delivery to cater for all students.
Excellence in teacher programming and teaching practice reflect a clear focus on the Quality Teaching
Framework and differentiating.
Performance and development of all staff is aligned to school
plans, accreditation and quality teaching (Leading Learners).
Examples
All staff achieve accreditation at proficient or higher
levels against the Australian Professional Standards
for Teachers.
All staff identify goals that are linked to the school
plan, accreditation and self-identified aspirations to
improve pedagogy knowledge, understanding and
delivery.
Leadership is dynamic, inclusive and adheres to high accountability practices that inspire performance and
excellence.
Examples
Leaders identify professional learning goals to enhance their capability and capacity.
School leaders demonstrate excellence in pedagogy, strong interpersonal and organisational skills with
highly effective communication in delivering public education.
Newsletter
Last term on the 16 March, we held our Annual General Meeting for the P&C Association which included electing the
executive officers. Our congratulations to the following P&C elected Executive and Committee coordinators:
President - Ms Lisa Harvey
Vice Presidents - Mr Chris Fitzpatrick and Mrs Alison Whittaker
Secretary - Mrs Jo Seymour
Treasurer - Mr Craig Wyer
Committee Coordinators:
Fundraising - Mr Chris Fitzpatrick
Canteen - Mrs Amanda Caine
Uniform Shop - Mrs Alison Whittaker
I look forward to working with our hard working P&C Association again this year.
I would like to pass on my sincere thanks to the P&C Association and Mr and Mrs Fitzpatrick who spent many weeks
preparing gifts for our Mother’s Day Stall last week. The gifts were beautiful and the stall was very successful. Thank
you to all the mums and dads who also helped out with the stall. It was very much appreciated!
Thank you to all the families and teachers who supported out Mother’s Day Breakfast last Friday. There were plenty of
smiles, laughter and well fed tummies! My congratulations to the boys and girls in the K-2 Choir who sang at this
breakfast event as well. You singing was wonderful! Thank you also to Mrs Willis, Miss Russell and Miss Conroy for
coordinating our choir.
Last Thursday we successfully held our school cross country carnival on a lovely autumn day. I was very impressed with
the effort all boys and girls made in their race. Our fastest runners will now compete in next week’s zone cross country
carnival. Go Ringrose! Thank you also to Miss Crowe, Miss Antoniolli and Mr Stroud for coordinating our day!
Last Thursday Kindergarten held their ‘P’ Pyjama and Popcorn Day! It was lovely
to see the boys and girls dressed ready to go in their pyjamas for the day. There
were even some teachers dressed for the occasion!
Last Tuesday, a number of Year 5 and 6 students attended an enrichment day at Greystanes High School under the
program of “The Alkira Challenge”. Kobe, Elli, Steven and Natasha took up the challenge through a number of activities
throughout the day centred on Science and the Creative Arts. Well done to these students on their exemplary
behaviour.
This week, Year 3 and Year 5 students have been participating in the National Assessment Program - Literacy and
Numeracy (NAPLAN). Yesterday, students sat the Language Conventions and Writing component. Today they sat the
Reading component and tomorrow will be the Numeracy Test. As I have mentioned before, these test provide
information for schools about what students can do and are used to support teaching and learning programs further.
Over these next few weeks, there will be a number of teachers taking leave at different times. The teacher and their
casual replacement are:
Mrs Elliott - 1/2E will be taken by Miss Putanac.
Miss Antoniolli - 3/4A will be taken by Mrs Hanna.
Mr Walker - Library will be taken by Mrs Jones and Mrs Palise.
Between the 20 and 26 May, the Life Education Van will be visiting our school and presenting a number of lessons to
classes centred on the K-6 PDHPE (Personal Development, Health and Physical Education) Syllabus. The cost to
students is $10.00. These lessons are an important component of educating our children in healthy living lifestyles.
Coming up from Week 6, our RFFT program (Release from Face to Face Teaching) will be focussed on Fundamental
Movement Skills. This means that every week, classes will be spending time participating and improving skills in PE
(Physical Education). A letter will be sent home shortly advising the days/times for class participation in these lessons
so boys and girls can wear their sneakers to school.
A reminder to all Year 4 parents and carers that the online application for placement in the Opportunity Classes in 2015
closes this Friday 15 May. If you need further information, please see Miss Smajlagic or myself.
This Friday, a reminder that our PSSA Winter Sports programs commence. We wish all our teams all the best as they
play other schools. For Years 3-6 students participating in School Sport back at school, Miss Couper has been busily
organising a number of quality development sports activities. This will ensure that all students are provided with
enhanced sports opportunities and experiences. We are also discussing with the AFL Association how they can come
along run workshops with students as well. Information about the AFL opportunity will come out shortly. Please note
the AFL opportunity is for students remaining at school sport only.
In our school office foyer, we have an amazing art display from class 1O. Well done boys and girls your work looks
fantastic!
Finally, last Friday the Camp Quality Puppets presented a wonderful show to our whole school. The teachers have
commented very positively on how well the show addressed the issue of illness and cancer. This week, one of students
Justin will continue his treatment in hospital and is listed for surgery tomorrow. I know you continue to pass on your
well wishes, thoughts and prayers for Justin and his family at this time.
Yours sincerely,
Mr Loughhead

Detailed instructions on how to apply online will be available from 27 April 2015 in a printed application information booklet and at www.schools.nsw.edu.au/ocplacement. The application website opens on 27 April 2015 and closes on 15 May 2015. No late applications will be accepted.

Here at Ringrose, we the staff, are about to start something exciting. We are going
to be fundraising for the Cancer Council, in the ‘Do it for Cancer’ event under the team
name Ringrose Public School.
Over the term we will be asking for donations to the Cancer Council, and in return at
the end of this term in week 10 we have teachers who will be willing to shave or colour
their hair in return for hitting our fundraising goals.
Not to name names but a certain head of the school and another male teacher as well
as one of our female teachers have already volunteered to shave their hair for this
good cause.
If you would like to see some of our staff without hair or with really unusual or bright
coloured hair please follow the steps below and donate to our team page on the Do it
for Cancer website.
Step 1- go to www.doitforcancer.com
Step 2- Go to the tab at the top of the page which says ‘search for a fundraiser’.
Step 3- Choose our state ‘NSW’.
Step 4- Go to group search.
Step 5- Find Ringrose Public School.
Step 6- Click on donate to us.
Where your money goes- Each year community fundraisers help the Cancer Council
put almost $5 million dollars into vital cancer research and support activities, and
campaigns for change
