Conclusion:Nuclear energy has a lot
of upside because of the enormous amounts of energy that it produces; however production of temporary energy, through the fission process isn't worth the damage that it poses to the future. Inadequate storage facilities, extremely high cost,, and questionable transportation methods all add to the potential of a nuclear disaster. Currently, 15% of all generated energy annually is from nuclear power. As of 2008, 430 nuclear plants are spread between 31 countries. However, no individual country has perfected the strategy for handling the potential nuclear problems.

WasteAnnually, The world
produces 210,0003 million tons of nuclear waste.
To safely store the nuclear waste, the price tag would run into the billions, mostly supported by taxpayer money
Many nuclear companies are having difficulties finding places to store the waste. Approximately, 90% of all nuclear waste is still stored in the nuclear power plants; however, room is quickly running out.
CostsIt costs around $10 billion
to build a nuclear power plant
Construction takes between 7-12 years to build a nuclear power plant
To reprocess spent nuclear fuel rods, a plant would cost about $20 billion and approximately $3-4.5 billion per year to maintain.
Dangers It takes 3 million years for
stored nuclear waste to become safe
Humans are susceptible to errors and there is no guarantee that a nuclear melt down can be prevented
Chernobyl, Ukraine was the victim of a nuclear meltdown in 1986 and they currently have 20 square miles of uninhabitable land. Of The residents near the plant, even inside the “safe zone”, 13,000 children have been diagnosed with thyroid cancer along with a good portion of adults. There have been thousands who were diagnosed with radiation sickness and a host of other diseases.
Nuclear waste can be reused to make a nuclear bomb and there is no assurance that even the most stable countries can adequately protect these massive quantities of nuclear waste.
