Rhetorical Rationale
In my Reflections essay, the audience was mostly for the teacher, yet I also felt
like I was reaching out to those who are married or who are about to get married, to share
in my excitement and build excitement of their own. For the Analysis I felt like my
audience was actually myself, like I was trying to understand and possibly go along with
the ad. And in the About Me paper, my audience was for people looking for a good time
in a foreign country (Thailand), namely foreigners who can’t speak Thai and would
greatly benefit from knowledgeable tour guides.
My purpose in reflecting about my wedding was so I could share my happiness
with others, and also so I could reminisce about one of the best days of my life. My
purpose in analyzing that ad was to break down what it meant and also to try and sell my
opinion of it. And lastly, I was trying to sell my imaginary business as best as I could
through words on my About Me page.
For my Reflections paper, I first had to decide on a topic that was still fresh
enough in my mind that I could pull out specific details. I also asked my wife for any
ideas after she read my paper. The in class peer review was definitely helpful cause I
received pointers and corrections on all three of my papers. Another effective method I
used was to put myself in the audience’s shoes and try to figure out what would interest
me if I were reading someone else’s paper.
I feel that I got my point across very well in my papers, whether or not they fit the
credentials perfectly, they still had my “signature” all over them. I want my readers to be
able to feel how passionate I am about certain subjects, what my interests are and what I
enjoy writing about. I feel I did a great job on my papers and that anyone could find
something enjoyable about them.
