Introduction to REVOLUTION: STRONG !

You were meant to be strong. !You were meant to be powerful. !You were meant to be resilient.

~Tao Te Cheng !It’s time for a REVOLUTION… !STRENGTH. MOVEMENT. PERFORMANCE. RESILIENCE. !In the most simple terms, this is a REVOLUTION about moving better and moving stronger to accomplish everything we want. !We must simply become more if we want to fully optimize our potential. !Optimal performance equates to optimal results, no matter what health and fitness results we’re looking to achieve. !Let’s ditch the mediocrity, the status quo, the average, and the subpar. !No more. !No more irrational, unsafe, silly, pointless “workouts” from a “mainstream” approach. !Instead, let’s move towards better training, better methods, and better programs that produce better results for the long term. !Yes, let’s actually work on MOVING BETTER and MOVING STRONGER with the tools and strategies that really work, the proven methods and systems WITHOUT the nonsense and the BS.

Train safe, train strong has been my mantra for years. !The truth is that you and I have unlimited physical potential, power, and ability. !Our mission is to and discover our potential, to tap into it as fully as possible. !My personal mission is to help forge athletic bodies around the world by helping people tap into their strength, their power, and their resiliency. !And, getting stronger goes WAY BEYOND just physical strength, my friend. !At this point, I’ve personally spoken to countless world class coaches, performance experts, and respected thought leaders all over the world. !There’s clearly one thing they all agree on. !

!Is strength the ONLY thing we need? !No, I’m not saying that at all. !They call it “strength and conditioning” for a reason. !We need other qualities, of course, but strength is essential. !Let me explain. !The easiest way to explain this is with the visual below.

!This is the very simple explanation of WHY we need the quality of strength. !As we age, we lose our strength on a progressive decline unless we actively do something about it. !Most people don’t realize the importance of physical strength (or they take it for granted) as they can function normally through life, until the “critical point.” !

The critical point is where there is a rapid and progressive decline in strength and health. !This is devastating for many. !The difference with the person who trains to be strong is that they prevent the decline from occurring for as long as possible. !Who says we have to stop training at a certain age? !Let’s reject the mentality of statements like “I’m too old to _____.” !“I won’t be able to____.” !“It’s too hard to learn how to____.” !“I can’t do____.” !“I’ll never be able to____.” !Do you know there are people over the age of 80 competing in Olympic weightlifting? !17 competitors over the age of 8o in the 2013 World Masters Weightlifting Championships. !Yes, you heard me right, competing in Olympic weightlifting. !And, here’s something that came to my attention recently. !This is an 81 year old man demonstrating the capacity we have to be mobile and strong (click here to the see this video). !

You know, it’s NEVER too late to shoot for the stars, regardless of who you are. So, do whatever it takes ‘cause

you can’t rewind a moment in this life - let nothin’ stand in your way.

Why am I mentioning what some octogenarians can do? !Because there are people in their 30’s that can’t do what these 80 years olds can do. !They should serve as ROLE MODELS for what can be physically accomplished. !This shows us the limitless performance we all have if we discover our true potential. !We, humans, are actually capable of amazing things. !All we have to do is choose to be stronger. !We can choose to perform much closer to our physical potential. !You can see from the graph that if we don’t choose strength, we aren’t maximizing our potential. !There will always be a “gap” between where we are and where we could be in regards to our potential (as illustrated in the graph). !And, as we age, the gap increases unless we take control. !There are different levels of strength and different qualities of strength, but general physical strength is absolutely foundational for all humans. !My mission is to help you either understand that or if you already get it, then join this REVOLUTION to continue your journey and always evolve. !Let me ask you this question (please take a minute to thoroughly consider your response). !Do you think that physical strength improves the quality of our lives? !Well, what do you think? !

You bet it does. !I just showed you on the graph that we are either moving closer our potential by seeking strength or we are operating at a subpar level until we reach the critical point when things progressively decline. !Strength helps us in more ways than you can possibly imagine. !

Here’s another question. !Do you feel like you’re operating near your full physical potential right now? !If you answered yes, I totally congratulate you. !Like I mentioned, this REVOLUTION is something you’ll want to be a part of if you truly want to continue to develop and evolve, as I’m sure you do. !But, most would probably admit they are nowhere near their full potential. !And, for those, this is definitely YOUR REVOLUTION. !We have to evolve ourselves. !We have to choose to be strong. !Instead of the superficial vanity goals that are excessively glamorized and overhyped in fitness magazines and in the media, we need to reclaim OUR TRUE STRENGTH and OUR GREATNESS. !The mainstream fitness systems have painfully failed us. !All of us. !A lot of misinformation and the wrong focus.

!Renegades do things differently than the herd (although they don’t surf on sharks, just thought the pic was cool -:) !The RENEGADES seek to better understand their strength and discover their true potential. !They’re RENEGADES because they abandon conventional wisdom and traditional thinking - the nonsense and the BS. !The RENEGADES want more, they want the truth. !They know that their strength is an invisible, unstoppable force within them. !

How would you like to BECOME UNSTOPPABLE? !Strength helps just about everything.

Here’s a few more questions to consider. !Does strength make an athlete a better athlete? !Does strength help a person be a better person? !Does strength help an endurance athlete be a better endurance athlete? !Does strength help an aging person move better, function better, and perform better? !Does strength contribute to lean body mass and improved body composition? !Does strength contribute to injury prevention and a decline in human health? !The answer to all of these is YES. !Would you say you’re committed to maximizing your potential? !OR !Would you say you’re “content” with mediocrity and the “status quo” that many conform to? !

Strength empowers us and spills over into almost every other area of our lives: !• health • career • psychology • physiology • relationships • lifestyle • spiritual • humanity !Becoming stronger makes us all better because it effects so many different areas in our lives. !Becoming stronger is a form of physical mastery, which is so important to improve quality of life. !Strength is a journey, a skill, and an evolution. !But, I’m not saying strength is the only thing we need - it’s NOT. !What I am saying is that strength is foundational. !There’s absolutely NO WAY I can cover everything in this manifesto, this is just a starting point (more later on what’s next). !This is the starting point for the REVOLUTION, for those who want to take part in this journey. !This “manifesto” is about OUR STRENGTH. !But, it’s also about non-conformity. !It’s about not following the herd down a path of less than optimal results. !

~Nickelback !Conventional wisdom has failed us. !We need to think different and understand the truth about human performance. !WHO is our worst enemy? !Surprisingly, it’s OURSELVES, as many of us don’t develop to our potential for many reasons. !Is it possible we that maybe we don’t respect strength enough? !Maybe we just take it for granted. !Unfortunately, many live in the ‘status quo’ and settle with where they are. !The truth is, I did this for years until I made one critical discovery that changed everything. !We need to open our eyes and open our minds. !We need to constantly learn, grow, develop, and take BOLD ACTIONS towards the things we want and NEVER STOP. !We must strive to be the best versions of ourselves, everyday. !There are many enemies that prevent us from optimizing our potential though. !Let me begin and say that I want to be fully open with what I see going on in the fitness industry today. !There are major problems, my friend. !But, it’s up to each of us to TAKE A STAND and defeat the enemies so that we achieve extraordinary results and make continuous progress.

!As we explore problems and solutions, here’s my promise to you. !I won’t hold back anything in this manifesto. !Unfortunately, I know it won’t resonate with everyone and some may not agree. !I can live with that because I truly want to help those who want more, those who want to join this revolution and march forward together in strength. !My hope is you will embrace the message of this REVOLUTION. !And, as a peak performance strategist, my mission is simple. !That’s right, I’m obsessed with human performance and I’ve spent an enormous amount of time and personal investment in learning how we can better optimize our true potential. !!

Empowerment. !Inner strength. !Confidence. !Living your life on your terms. !Moving closer to your full potential. !If you’re reading this, my intent is to help you whether you’re: !• a fitness novice or recreational exerciser • a hardcore fitness enthusiast • a coach • a trainer or fitness professional • or an athlete !If you’re reading this, you’re probably one of the above and you may already understand my message here. !Let this manifesto serve as a confirmation and “position statement” on what you know to be true. !No matter what you believe right now, all you need to become part of this revolution is desire, drive, and determination to excel and become better. !The message is a simple statement of strength, as well as it is truth. !We can be Forever Strong, if we choose to. !Whether or not you choose to participate in this revolution is YOUR CHOICE and your choice only. !As we explore this movement of strength… !

MY STORY (Short Version) !I’m really just a regular guy, but I’m driven and passionate about helping people do the right things with their training so that they get specific results. !While my main message is about strength, we certainly cannot become the best version of ourselves without optimizing nutrition and other key factors, which is why I help educate in these areas, as well. !For the purpose of this manifesto, I’m going to focus on the message of strength and we’ll save other topics for later. !I’ve been fortunate to evolve through decades of training experience, countless books I’ve read, numerous seminars and workshops I’ve attended, and personal conversations with some of the most brilliant minds in the world. !I consider myself a scientist, a strength coach, and a performance strategist. !What this means is that I help teach people how to get stronger, but in the safest, most effective way possible to optimize their performance and achieve a variety of specific goals. !Movement and strength precede most everything and if this is the foundation, great things will happen. !

If we keep true to that philosophy, great things will result.” !For years, I followed a generic mainstream approach believing the stuff in magazines and following “conventional” wisdom. !As a result I lived in mediocrity. !I always trained my ass off in the gym. !Always.

!But, I never really focused on movement or strength and I made a lot of mistakes along the way. !I was a competitive bodybuilder and even overcame a major back injury during my journey. !But, a few years ago everything changed when I discovered the principles of movement and strength that had somehow been neglected in my own training. !When I made this radical shift, I started moving better, I got stronger, felt better, experienced high levels of energy, improved my body composition (more muscle, less fat), and have experienced amazing gains in strength and performance. !Basically, I feel amazing, powerful, and resilient as a man in my forties and I want to help people feel and perform like I do. !I want to help people take control of their health and perform at the highest level to get the results they want by doing the right things. !I’ve become obsessed with maximizing human performance and I want to help those who are looking to get to the next level to achieve specific results. !When I started my journey many years ago, I was just a clueless kid who started weight training in the basement with cement filled plates and a hollow barbell. !At that time, I had no idea what it was all about, but what a journey it’s been through the years. !

Now, with over 3 decades of strength training behind me, I’ve learned a lot and I’m still learning all the time, but I’m clear today on what it’s all about. !During those years, I’ve made a lot of mistakes and I’ve had many struggles along the way. !Please don’t think that I’m one of those people that’s had continuous success and have been naturally gifted as an athlete, far from it. !No, I’ve had a devastating back injury, body composition struggles, and even spent years “living in the plateau” making absolutely no progress. !I’d call those struggles, but all great accomplishments require setbacks and struggles along the way. !Just a few years ago, I made some amazing and transformational discoveries in my own training that completely revolutionized my training approach for the rest of my life. !You see, I’ve been involved with health and fitness for decades in many different roles and I personally LIVE this revolution every day. !I could go through my credentials and try to convince you that I know what I’m talking about, but let me just tell you the bottom line. !What’s important to know is that I truly care about helping people become better. !I care. !And, as I mentioned, I’m also a scientist. !What does this mean exactly? !I’m constantly studying, learning, and applying how to become better everyday because I truly give a damn about improving my physical potential and helping others do the same. !

The vast majority of people simply do NOT optimize their physical potential. !Sad, but true. !And worse yet, some people actually think they’re on the right track by doing some “hardcore” training program that does nothing for their long term success. !Usually what happens is that person gets hurt or burned out in the process. I’m not a GURU who claims to know it all, even after decades of training experience. !Do I have all the answers? !No. !No one does and if they say they do, they’re full of crap to be very honest. !But, you know what… !I’m driven to always evolve myself and get better. !I’m in the trenches every damn day. !I practice what I preach, and I live the things I write about, talk about, and share advice on. !I live strong every day because it’s just “who I am.” !It’s my identity. !I encourage you to think about your identity because when you know that, it makes everything else a whole lot easier. !Are you average or are you extraordinary? !The answer is that you’re extraordinary, because we all have the unbelievable ability to do something powerful and amazing. !

The fitness industry is a bit of an enigma, quite frankly. !It’s an amazing, fun, and exciting industry with lots of hope, promise, and success. !But, there are some major problems with the model. !And, I keep wondering why this model is failing badly in certain areas and why so many fail so recognize the lies, BS, and the misinformation. !Are most people really making progress today or are they stuck in “no man’s land?” !Are they really doing the right things? !Why do so many people fail to get the results they want? !You’re probably as concerned as I am because so many people simply don’t know the truth. !Many people are confused, misguided, and misinformed about what really works. !I don’t know about you, but I hear the confusion and blatant misinformation almost every day in daily conversations. !And, everybody wants the “quick fix,” which is another problem. !Everybody seems to be an expert these days, especially with growth of the internet and information available online. !The internet is both the greatest thing and the worst thing for the fitness industry. !It’s the greatest thing because there is an abundance of high quality information and people out there who really care and want to help other people. !

But, it’s the worst thing because anyone can call themselves an expert and a majority of those “so-called experts” are scammers, pretenders, and hucksters who know nothing about how our bodies really work and promise short cuts, fast results, and quick fixes if we just buy their product or system. !On the flip side, there are some amazing, brilliant, innovative coaches and trainers out there who do great things and truly help people. !But, the truth is that nobody has all the answers. !I say this even after decades of experience because I’m still learning all the time. !I told you, I’m a scientist. !I study, I learn, I apply. !I’m fortunate to have a fundamental knowledge because I work my ass off, I put the time in and I experiment. !I’m always the student. !And, sometimes what I see going on in the industry has me shaking my head in absolute frustration, disgust, and shame. !Let me tell you why… !

HERE’S WHY TODAY’S MODEL IS FAILING… !

It’s tragic and a shame, but many of today’s growing fitness trends are hurting people instead of helping them. !First of all, I put safety above everything else. !If you’re even vaguely familiar with my approach, SAFE TRAINING and injury prevention is always going to be my number one priority. !I want to be strong, but I also want to be supple, mobile, and injury free for the long term. !Now, back to these trends. !You probably know exactly what I’m talking about. !Of course, there are solid programs systems and outstanding coaches out there, as I mentioned, but there are some major cracks in the fitness foundation. !There are some really bad things going on that are limiting people’s progress and causing major problems, some of which we’ll get into here. !Let’s start with this important distinction. !QUANTITY is NOT more important than QUALITY, period. !

There’s tons of examples of bad training that causes more harm than good and does nothing for people for the long term. !Irrational, high volume programming that focuses on “quick fixes” and “short cuts” that has more emphasis on kicking someone’s ass in a workout compared to actually making them better. !People today are getting injured, experiencing serious burnout or regression, doing harmful or damaging exercises and programs, and failing to get the results they want.

!People are fed lies, exaggerated claims, and blatant misinformation which all cause confusion, frustration, and lack of progress or no progress at all. !And, you want to know the real tragedy? !

Most people don’t know any better. !That’s the real shame in the situation, many people follow the herd (i.e. the mainstream approach). !They don’t distinguish between logical and illogical training approaches, qualified and unqualified coaches, and frankly, they get distracted with exercises that will “entertain” instead of improve. !How did things get so bad? !Well, it gets worse. !Let’s take a closer look at things… !The mainstream fitness approach is the typical crap that’s all over the media - the overhyped claims and shear BS about fitness, the stuff that’s just not true. !For the most part, this is just a bad scene altogether. !Now, I’m not hear to bash all things in the mainstream because I have seen some useful information, but this is the minority of what I see. !But, look at any fitness ad or informercial and you’ll see some typical examples of what I mean. !Mainstream fitness doesn’t care about you and mainstream fitness doesn’t care about actually getting people better, stronger, or having quality, lasting success. !

Yes, these are all REAL headlines from the mainstream. !Does anyone REALLY believe this crap? !Don’t get me started. !Mainstream is the stuff we’re supposed to believe, the nonsense that’s in many magazines, books, and on TV. !And, go to almost any big name fitness center and you’ll see the “mainstream approach” in action, people actually doing the things the mainstream teaches them without focusing on quality of movement or progressive strength and conditioning. !Bad exercises, bad programs (or no programs), wasted time, and doing things that frankly make no sense. !Most people are going through the motions, staying in exact same spot they’ve been in for years, failing to make progress. !

You know I recently saw a guy in a commercial gym standing on a BOSU ball doing bicep curls and other resistance exercises. !I’m not making this up and I literally couldn’t believe my eyes - that people actually did stuff like this in the gym. !Is is funny or is it sad, you tell me. !This same guy I saw could NOT even perform a proper, stable push up (as I also directly observed), yet he was standing on a BOSU ball doing curls (and other exercises). !Can you tell me the point of this and help me understand? !Is this logical? !I’d love to know the rationale for that one? !Let me tell you, there is rational and there is irrational. !Here’s another example that’s really irrational to me. !Does it make sense to perform highly skilled and technical barbell lifts for high reps that are done for time? !Focus on the key words here, highly skilled and technical, then answer the question. !As I mentioned, many people in a traditional (or irrational) approach are just chugging along doing the same old stuff month after month, year after year - machines, traditional cardio, some version of weight training, and too many irrational things to name. !(Note: Weight Training and Weightlifting are 2 different things entirely. Weight training involves exercising with weights while

weightlifting is performing the barbell snatch and clean and jerk, just to clarify.) !Are they really making progress or are they in the same exact same spot they were in 6 months ago, 12 months ago, 2 years ago? !And, are they healthy, supple, and free from injury or are they getting banged up, injured, and burned out? !Here’s more from the mainstream. !Mainstream fitness tells us things like… !

Don’t train too heavy or you’ll bulk up. !If you want to lose weight, you need to do more “cardio. !

Light weight training is what you need to get “toned.” !You shouldn’t deadlift. Only powerlifters deadlift, do leg

presses - it’s safer. !If you want the 6 pack abs, you’ve got to crunches. !

You don’t need to be stronger, you need more “cardio.” !To get in shape, sign yourself up for a 5K or a marathon. !

For the most part, mainstream has it all WRONG, folks. !The good thing is, people are starting to figure this out. !The people that are figuring this out are the RENEGADES, the new REVOLUTION of fitness enthusiast. !But, this is only the beginning of the problems. !Let’s dive a little deeper. !!

EXTREME TRAINING. !Extreme, hardcore training that’s irrational, unsafe, and completely “random.” !We all want results and we all want to train hard, I get it. !But, training has to be systematic and logical, not random and intense all the time. !Random training produces random results. !Now, of course, we can’t follow formal structured programming all the time, I understand that. !But, training always should always be systematic, progressive, and logical. !Every training session should attempt to make you a little better. !Extreme training can come in many forms. !One example is the late night infomercial showing a hard core, extreme home exercise program that guarantees a ripped body in 30, 60, or 90 days. !Do you believe it? !“Joe” who hasn’t exercised in weeks, months, or even LONGER can get some “hardcore” program and in just 30 days he’ll look muscled up and shredded? !It’s all about the program, right? !I mean, the people in the commercials who are muscled up and shredded got that way JUST from doing the program, right? !Well, it doesn’t work that way. !I can’t stand to see these programs that sell these high intensity training systems to everybody and anybody. !

You can’t go from ZERO to SIXTY with programs like these, that’s why there’s high injury rates, burnouts, and failure to complete programs like this. !Just to be transparent, I am in favor of intense, structured programs, but there has to be a baseline or certain prerequisites before jumping into things like this. !I’ll talk much more about the idea or thought process of training versus “workout out.” !Reckless and irresponsible programming for the mass population is just a part of the problem. !Here’s a popular fitness mantra today… !

“Train insane or remain the same.” !The truth is I can’t stand this saying and I’ll tell you why. !Think about it, does this really make sense? !To me, this is the problem - insane training - where we think more about having workouts that “kick our asses” versus a workout that actually makes us better. !It’s just the wrong way to think about training. !Again, quantity should NEVER beat quality. !!

Does this honestly make sense to you? !I understand the mental aspect of performance, the mental toughness, but… !Is our goal really to train so hard that we hurl or pass out after a workout? !Is this some kind of badge of honor? !Does that mean we accomplished something special? !Do you see a problem with this or is it just me? !This REVOLUTION is not about that. !It doesn’t take a good coach to design a program that will fry your ass, leave you drenched in a pool of sweat, or bring you to the verge of spewing. !The mentality that a workout has to “kick our ass” to be a good workout is all WRONG. !All wrong. !What a relief, I said it… !Listen, I’m all for training hard and intense, but not at the expense of safety, and purposeful, strategic training. !Training has to be sensible, reasonable, and logical. !I understand we want to have “killer workouts” and feel like we did something. !I get this, I do.

!But, we need to be rational in our approach, not irrational. !This is how I learned to think, going back to my days as a physical therapist and always having a “rationale” for everything I did with patients in the clinic. !I never did things just for the hell of it. !There HAD to be a “rationale” for everything. !Do we REALLY want results and get better OR do we just to do “whatever” because it will kick our ass. !Fitness is performance. !It’s both an art and a science. !We NEED to have a basic understanding our HOW our bodies operate, at least on a fundamental level. !We need to be clear on our goals if we really want to GET RESULTS. !We need to focus on getting better everyday - being a little better

THE FADS, GIMMICKS, AND SCAMS. !This is more of the stuff I can’t stand to see, how about you? !What exactly is a fad? !A fad is any form of behavior that develops among a large population and is collectively followed enthusiastically for a period of time. !A fad is said to “catch on” when the number of people adopting it begins to increase rapidly. !The behavior will normally fade quickly once the perception of novelty in gone. !Examples of some really bad fitness fads include things like: !• BowFlex Home Gyms • “Aerobics” • Balance Training • “Boot Camps” • Stability Ball Training • Pilates • Zumba • “Core” Training !Then, there’s the gimmicks in fitness. !A gimmick in a unique or quirky special feature that makes something stand out from its contemporaries. !A few examples of gimmicks are things like: !• Shake Weights • Ab Gliders • Ab Slimming Belts • Ab Rockets • Ab Carvers • Hell, pretty much ANYTHING to do with ABS!!! • Push Up Pump

• And, so much more… !I actually feed really insulted when I see a commercial or ad with some new device telling me how I can get ripped or muscled up using a lame product that is nothing new or special in comparison to the basic, proven tools we already have for elite fitness and performance (ex. barbells, kettlebells, and our bodies). !It’s totally insulting. !And, typically this weak, shameless ad for some silly device will do absolutely NOTHING to help us move better, get stronger, or improve any skill. !The ad is all about FAST results, showing us how to get amazing 6 pack abs in just minutes a day using this “shiny new gadget.” !Do THEY really expect US to believe… !• A person in a TV commercial loses 29 pounds by using only a simple ab

device? • Another person loses 6 inches off their waistline with the same piece of

equipment? • And, yet another person built a lean, athletic, muscular body with

the same device? !We RENEGADES know better. !Yes, we all want faster results, but people have to be realistic. !We have to realize that RESULTS is about doing the right things and doing them consistently over time. !The truth is that the ONLY way to real, sustainable RESULTS is with hard work and putting in the time. !I know this is cliche’ but.. !It’s a marathon, NOT a sprint. !

But, for now, I’ll simply say that “it depends” on how clear you are on what you want. !For most of us, what I’m talking about is a minimum foundation for maintaining baseline strength that everyone needs to have to optimize potential. !And, If you focus on strength at some level, you can have everything else you’re looking for and more. !

THE ‘FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH’ IS OUR STRENGTH. !

This is what the RENEGADE understands. !Remember in the beginning of this manifesto what I said about 80 year olds competing in Olympic weightlifting? !I’d say that strength is our fountain of youth, what do you think? !Physical strength and human movement are the key components to a foundation of optimal health and performance. !We should strive for at least a minimum level of FOUNDATIONAL STRENGTH. !This is required for everyone. !

STRENGTH IS NOT THE ONLY THING WE NEED. !

One last thing. !Do NOT misunderstand this Revolution… !We need to move well, we need to be mobile, and we need to be strong. !BUT… !Strength isn’t the only thing we need, however, it needs to be our foundation for a better, stronger life. !The foundation of strength HELPS with everything else. !And, there are many other physical qualities such as: !• endurance • mobility • flexibility • speed • agility • coordination • motor control • power • athleticism !Strength helps all of this and more. !What if we focused on doing a few things very well, instead of worrying about being “entertained” with our training and doing a bunch of useless “stuff.” !What if we said goodbye to thinking that we need to have our “ass kicked” in a workout? !Do we truly want results, do we truly want to get better? !

Revolution STRONG is about learning how to effectively maximize your potential to get specific results (whether that’s improved performance, fat loss, muscle gain, improved health, or living a better life) !The Revolution is a journey of self discovery, self mastery, and evolving ourselves to be the best we can be. !

The methods and strategies we use to maximize our strength and performance in this REVOLUTION include areas of specialization in the following: !• Mobility and movement based exercise • Bodyweight training (basic and advanced) • Kettlebell training • Barbell Fundamentals • Power lifts • Olympic Weightlifting !This is where I focus my own efforts and things shift depending on my current goals. !Barbells, kettlebells, and bodweight training perfectly complement each other. !They all require quality of movement and the skill of strength. !Now, all of these may not be needed by everyone as there is a continuum of training, which I’ll discuss later. !But, together or independently, these 3 methods are powerful training “systems.” !My mission is to help make any of these areas accessible to those that want to evolve with them. !These methods have been time tested and proven over decades of training. !

ABOUT THE AUTHOR. !

Scott Iardella, MPT, CSCS, CISSN, SFGII, SFL, FMS, USAW, Pn1 has a long history in the field of health and fitness with over 30 years of practical experience and education. !He has an extensive background in strength and

conditioning, sports physical therapy, competitive bodybuilding, and specializes in the areas of kettlebell, barbell, and functional movement based training.    Scott started his own strength training journey at the age of fifteen when he started working at a local fitness center. Four years later he competed in his first bodybuilding competition and competed locally for the next six years. !The experiences of competitive bodybuilding and overcoming a major back injury led him to obtain his Master’s Degree (MPT) in Physical Therapy from the University of Maryland. Scott worked as an Orthopedic and Sports Physical Therapist and has worked with many amateur and professional athletes, as well as the general population. !He speciality was in rehabilitation and injury prevention of the shoulder, knee, and spine with extensive interest and specialized training in these areas. !His current passion is teaching the proper biomechanics and movement applications of kettlebells, barbells, and other functional movement based training to maximize performance, improve body composition, and prevent injury.

!Additionally, he is equally as passionate about educating others in nutrition for health and performance.   Scott is Certified by the National Strength and Conditioning Association as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS). He is a Certified Sports Nutritionist (CISSN) by the ISSN and a Precision Nutrition Level One Certified Fitness Professional (Pn1). !He is passionate about kettlebells and movement-based training and holds the SFG, Level II (SFGII) Kettlebell Instructor certification, as well as being Certified Functional Movement Specialist (FMS). !Scott is also USAW weightlifting certified and a SFL certified Strong First Barbell Instructor.   !!!!!!!
