Jet Manul 18: Cement Pump Skid, CPS-361

1. Introduction

2. Safety Warnings

3. Overview CPS-361

I. Applications Components of the CPS system operate together to mix cement slurry:

Surge can hold dry cementDisplacement tanks on the skid hold the waterWater + cement = in the mixing bowl and piped to the mixing tank*C-pump circulates the slurry from MB and back again to MT. + water and/or dry

cement are added until slurry achieves the desired density. CPS-361 double –pump cementer skid performs:

o Provides ↑P pumping serviceso Meters mixing fluids and dry cemento Can work with gravity feeding of dry cement during mixingo Provides ↑P fluid movement using one or both triplex pumpso Can pump a variety of fluids from remote sources

This unit:o Equipped w/ Caterpillar 3176C electronically controlled engines (up to 570 hhp)o Pumper can be used w/ cement mixing systems:

Recirculating jet mixer SLURRY CHIEF* mixer

2 PG Triplex Pumps 2 10-bbl compartment, stainless steel displacement tanks to measure volumes

of nonflammable fluids

Page 2: Resumo Jet 18

o 4 centrifugal pumps (C-PUMPS) 2 RA45 injection pumps (mixing water pumps) 2 pumps (slurry/recirculation pump) They mix the cement slurry, pressurize the triplex pumps, supply

water to the dry cement.o A stainless steel, sound-reduced enclosure and aluminum drip pans around

the engine and transmission sectiono Supplied w/ a totally integrated, PC-compatible Azonix Amdex 100 operator

interface panel. (Martin Decker gauges, density control system DCS, JAB II)

ENGINES2 (front and rear)Drive the centrifugal and ↑P triplex pumps that move fluids through the system

TRANSMISSIONS2 (for each engine), Alisson 5-speed automatic transmissions

* If the pump stalls out, do not operate the engine for more than 30 seconds at full throttle with the transmission in gear. Prolonged operation in this way will causeexcessively high transmission temperatures that will damage the transmission.* In cold weather, it is important to take time to warm up the transmission oil before engaging the transmission. Oil temperatures need to conform to the following:-only at <20F can the transmission be used in all gears-if -9<T<20F, only run the transmission in neutral or 1st gear-if T<-10F, run in neutral only

C-PUMPSFeeds water from the D.T. into the M.B. Located above the transmission behind the smaller door

Page 4: Resumo Jet 18

CENTRIFUGAL 5X6 PRESSURIZER PUMPS2 (one is a backup)Recirculates slurry form the M.T. to the M.B. and back to the tank againAlso pressurizes the triplex pump suction

HIGH PRESSURE TRIPLEX PUMPS2 triplex pumpPump fluid (water, spacer, wash and slurry) to the downhole line and into the well.

FLUID ENDSFluid end lubrication system consists of a pressurized oil tankAir pressure is bled off whenever the pump brake is ON

DISPLACEMENT TANKS

Carla Bueno Sanches, 10/22/15,
Any liquid used to physically separate one special-purpose liquid from another. Special-purpose liquids are typically prone to contamination, so a spacer fluid compatible with each is used between the two. The most common spacer is simply water. However, chemicals are usually added to enhance its performance for the particular operation. Spacers are used primarily when changing mud types and to separate mud from cement during cementing operations. In the former, an oil-base fluid must be kept separate from a water-base fluid. In this case, the spacer may be base oil. In the latter operation, a chemically treated water spacer usually separates drilling mud from cement slurry. For proper performance and to prevent unanticipated problems, the spacer should be tested with each fluid in small-scale pilot tests. Some spacer fluids are designed to induce a particular flow regime. Ideally, a cement slurry should have turbulent flow to efficiently displace drilling fluids, but there might be pumping restrictions on fluid velocity. Therefore, a spacer that can achieve turbulent or pseudolaminar flow might be selected.

2 tanks, 10-bbl metering tanksMeasure the water volume injected into the M.B. for mixing slurry. Also measures other fluid volumes to be pumped downhole, such as spacer, wash or drilling mud.

SURGE CANNonpressurized metered silo for storing and feeding dry cement into the M.B.In some units you might fing pressurized surge cans

MIXING BOWLBelow the surge canWhere dry cement and water first come into contact to mix slurryThe opening to the mixing bowl is covered by the knife gate, which is a device that opens and closes over the M.B.

Page 6: Resumo Jet 18

When is opened, dry cement drops from the surge can above through the opening down into the M.B. The knife controls the volume dropped.A ↑velocity water stream below the bowl creates a vacuum that draws dry cement into the bowl. Opening/closing = controlled by a hydraulically operated meter wheel

The CPS-361 pumper uses a power steering type of hydraulic control system to provide metering valve action for the various mixers. The system consists of an engine driven vane-type pump on the front engine, with a remote-mounted reserve oil and a hand wheel control valve (cement-metering wheel) located on the control console.
