Details Description of Projects:1. Microcontroller based Fault Diagnostic and Control System (MPCS

V2):Tap changer electric locomotives working on Indian Railways are provided with control based on electromechanical and Electro pneumatic relays / contactors. Such controls involve large number of interlocks, contacts, inter connections and cabling, which are not only maintenance intensive but are unreliable too. It is proposed to modify the existing electric locomotives by providing µcontroller based control. This is intended to primarily replace some of the existing conventional relays, reduce cabling and provide additional fault diagnostic information with improved overall reliability.

My Roles: Hardware design of microcontroller based interface cards - (Schematic Capture & BOM) and Firmware development for those cards on MPLAB platform (µcontroller used - PIC24FJ64GA004). System Integration and Testing with main system. Design consideration with respect to RDSO Specification and V&V. Installation and Commissioning of prototype at CLW.

2. Vigilance Control Device (VCD):The VCD is for monitoring alertness of the engine crew through a multi-resetting system which gets reset by specified normal operational activities of the crew, in addition to acknowledgement of the vigilance check by pressing a pedal switch or push button provided for driver and assistant driver respectively for this purpose. Absence of the normal driving functions or the acknowledgement at specified intervals shall activate vigilance control system to flash an indication which if still not acknowledged shall cause audio warning. If audio warning is also not acknowledged, it shall result in emergency brake application. This shall also take care of problem of operation of locos by unauthorized persons getting into unattended loco cab. This shall be designed as a failsafe system.

My Roles: Hardware design of microcontroller based cards- (Schematic Capture / BOM & PCB Layout review) and Firmware development for those cards on KEIL platform (µcontroller used – LPC2368 (ARM7)). System Integration and Testing. Design consideration with respect to RDSO Specification and V&V. Installation and Commissioning of prototype at CLW.

3. Energy cum Speed Monitoring System(ESMON):

Page 3: Resume Subir Biswas

The Energy and Speed Monitoring unit (ESMON) is commissioned to monitor the speed and corresponding energy parameters of the train. ESMON is the device in the Electric Loco Engine to monitor and log the Speed as well as the energy consumption of the respective Engine.

My Roles: Hardware design of microcontroller based cards and other interface cards - (Schematic Capture / BOM & PCB Layout review) and Firmware development for those cards on KEIL platform (µcontroller used – LPC1768 (ARM Cortex)). System Integration and Testing. Design consideration with respect to RDSO Specification and V&V. Installation and Commissioning of prototype at Noapara Metro shed.

4. Microcontroller based Fault Diagnostic and Control System (MPCS V3):Since its inception, conventional tap changer electric locomotives in Indian Railways have gone through several changes over the years. A number of electro-mechanical, electro-pneumatic relays (and contactors) were abolished and replaced by reliable soft intermediate relays controlled by microprocessor based system to make it cost effective, and more reliable than its original version with faster fault diagnosis. For improving the utilization of locomotives, its unscheduled withdrawal from traffic, working of safety equipment, prevention of accident like situation, such as signal passing at danger (SPAD), etc., real-time monitoring of locomotives is required at Electric Loco Sheds and Traction Loco Controllers. This system helps in taking corrective action at right opportunity, in the event of UOR, before it can convert into major failure, disrupting the traffic. Such real-time monitoring of locomotives will involve decision making at appropriate level of expertise, thereby, achieving above objectives. Looking at the response of the state of the art technology, Indian Railways has further added some more units, i.e. Vigilance Control Device (VCD), Energy-cum-Speed Monitoring system (ESMON) under the ambit of Fault Diagnostic control system, introduced GPS to track its locomotives and GSM / CDMA network to monitor from remote locations.

My Roles: Hardware design of microcontroller based cards and other interface cards. - (Schematic Capture / BOM & PCB Layout review) and Firmware development for those cards on KEIL platform (µcontroller used – LPC1768 (ARM Cortex)). Design consideration with respect to RDSO Specification and V&V. Installation and Commissioning of prototype at Asansol Railway Shed.

5. Vehicle Tracking System (VTS):The VTS Device is a Vehicle Tracking System that tracks the real time data and updates it onto a Server. The tracking of the vehicle is measured in terms of the latitude and longitude at a particular point which is tracked by the GPS module, this data is sent to the Server via a SMS is processed by the GSM module. It also has a Push to Talk mechanism that can be activated by dialing a dedicated number to query the status of the device and its location.

My Roles: Hardware design of microcontroller based cards and other interface cards (Schematic Capture / BOM & PCB Layout review).

6. Remote Monitoring and Analysis System (REMAN):Microprocessor based Fault Diagnostics and Control system (MPCS) was introduced by Indian Railways to make the control of conventional tap

changer electric locomotives more reliable, cost-effective, and maintenance less cumbersome by using embedded technology for abolishing some of the conventional relays, interlocks and their interconnections etc. A large number of locomotives facilitated with MPCSV2 are running in Indian Railways. Remote Monitoring and Analysis has long been necessitated over the years to closely monitor the movement and other aspects of such Electric locomotives by the Loco Controllers, maintenance and other responsible personnel. With the introduction of REMAN-EL, Indian railways has brought the measurement of Speed, BP & BC pressure, introduced GPS to track its locomotives, acquiring locomotive information of MPCS and VCD status and sending all the constructed information over GSM / CDMA network to monitor them from remote locations.

My Roles: Hardware design of microcontroller based cards and other interface cards. (Schematic Capture / BOM & PCB Layout review) and firmware development for those cards on KEIL platform (µcontroller used – LPC1768 (ARM Cortex)). Design consideration with respect to RDSO Specification and V&V.

7. PDA: (Personal Digital/Data Assistant)Stesalit has its indigenously developed agricultural tablet device and mobile governance application to facilitate efficient monitoring and decision making process in the agriculture sector. Web-based and GIS-based Management Information System. The result of Stesalit’s intensive research in the sector is a unique web GIS based application integrated with custom made agricultural PDA to deliver seamless data capture and GIS analytics on the fly to better manage agricultural sector.

My Roles: Added Hardware Circuit in the design to incorporate thermal printer with the existing PDA for printing.

8. Solar / Wind Power Energy Generation: (for Geetanjali Solar Enterprise)Customer - Mizoram Government. This Unit consists of a solar generation and a wind generation. After that these powers charge the battery and then using inverter (1 backup) it transform the battery DC power into AC power. I have developed 3 different meters which can show voltage, current and wattage of solar, wind and battery. These meters can communicate with computer via RS485 port. Computer stores the value at an interval of 1 second for each. User can see the current value as well as the value from the old log.

My Roles: Worked as a freelancer and design and developed the electronic boards for metering system. Finalized Communication Protocol. Prototyping and its V&V.

9. Carbon Neutrality Manager: (for Geetanjali Solar Enterprise)First prototype for lighting “Desapriya Park”, Gariahat, Kolkata.

It’s a solar system which generates and fed the power at day time to electricity grid and at night the load is supplied from main supply. Two difference meters are connected in generation and consumption, which calculate the energy and shows it in 40 inch LCD. A control unit is there which check the amount of generation in a day and it will control its load to use the

same generated energy or as much as required depending on requirement of user.

My Roles: Worked as a freelancer and designed and developed the entire electronic control system for the Unit. Finalized Communication Protocol and defined the algorithms for FW development.
