family and was completely immersed in the culture. My work in the hospital included rotations with physicians in trauma, oncology, radiology, emergency, surgery, and the burn unit. I was expected to take part in patient care, including obtaining patient history in Spanish, conducting physical exams, and assisting in surgery.

Community Service

I have traveled throughout the United States to help communities in need for one-week periods at a time. The community service work includes rebuilding homes, serving in shelters, working in day care centers, doing yard work, and helping those less fortunate with tasks they can no longer complete themselves. We also participate in worship, prayer, and the Sacraments of the Catholic faith. Not only does this trip involve community service, but it is also a week of personal and spiritual growth.

At the end of Easter every year, our church hosts a 24-hour fasting period in which participants partake in community service in the surrounding neighborhoods. This involves yard work, house repair, and serving in shelters, all while fasting.

Skills

I have much experience with daily patient exams after having spent five weeks in the Dominican Republic, with practice doing basic physical exams, taking blood pressure and heart rate measurements, and recording general patient history. I also have experience in conducting graded exercise tests, as well as reading and interpreting electrocardiograms after successfully completing my prerequisite coursework in my Applied Exercise Physiology program, as well as an internship in Cardiac Rehabilitation.

I have considerable experience with computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Office, and Microsoft PowerPoint. I also have experience with creating online surveys, organization of large quantities of data, and cost versus revenue calculations.

I have very strong leadership qualities, such as communication, drive, initiative, focus, and passion. I enjoy listening to people and I take their opinions into consideration before proceeding with the task at hand. I don’t let problems hold me back from my true potential, and I always keep a positive attitude when obstacles come my way.
