The Northern Lights
Campground is still in
need of volunteers to
work to build the picnic
tables for each campsite.
Another work bee will be
held sometime in April to
continue this process.
Republic Community
Services is an invaluable
organization that assists
community members in
time of need. When
someone has a medical
issue and needs assistance
for medical travel they are
there to help. They also
keep a close on eye on the
many senior citizens we
have here in Republic. In
addition, part of their rep-
ertoire is giving grants to
local youth to attend the
many different summer
camps held in surrounding
areas.
If all of us just participate
in some small way, we can
all make a difference.
Questions? Don’t hesitate
to contact the Town Hall
for more info. 376-8827.
The Township is in dire need of
an Ordinance Enforcement
Officer. This person responds
to written complaints from local
citizens regarding Ordinance
infractions. This is a compen-
sated volunteer position and
needs to be filled immediately
Also, the Township wishes to
form an Emergency Manage-
ment Committee of 3 per-
sons. These folks will aid the
Township in the event of an
emergency situation
Republic Township also has
loads of organizations that
always need volunteers.
Spring and Summer are the busi-
est times for activities, including
fund raising and work bees!
Nothing is more satisfying that
knowing that YOU helped make
a difference in your town.
The Sportsman’s Club has
several fund raisers coming up.
On April 8th at the Pine Grove a
“Rocking The Decades Party”
will commence at 4PM. Raffle
tickets are being sold now and
during the party for several dif-
ferent prizes. Live music will
begin later and everyone should
come dressed to represent their
favorite decade to join in the fun.
This will help fund the Fishing
Derby coming up in July and we
all know how much we love the
Derby. The Club meets the first
Monday of every
month at the VFW.
The Republic Lion’s Club is another
very important organization that helps
our community. The Lion’s Club has
lost many members of late and need
your help to keep going. Their assis-
tance to folks needing eyeglasses, hear-
ing aids and wheelchair ramps has been
invaluable to many of us. However
since membership is down, the month-
ly pie social that helped to fund these
necessary services has been discontin-
ued due to lack of willing members.
They need our help. The meet the 2nd
Monday of every month at the VFW.
The Republic Historical Society is
a group of folks who have worked
diligently to preserve the history of the
place we call home. Right now they
have several worthy projects in the
works such as cataloging piles of pho-
tos, creating displays for the Iron Ore
Heritage Trail welcome center and a
World War I project that is county
wide. They also have several bake
sales / coffee socials scheduled on the
first Wednesday of each month. The
first few are on April 5th, May 3rd and
June 7th all at 10:00am. Our History is
important to us, it has shaped who we
are now, it should not be forgotten.
The Historical Society meets the 3rd
Tuesday of every month at 7PM at the
RM Library.
Also, The Rabbit Club Feed is also
on April 8th at the VFW starting at 5
PM. This is a perfect opportunity to

THE SUPERVISOR’S CORNER After four months in office, the
position is becoming more com-
fortable after being away from it
for 12 years. I want to thank
those who encouraged me to
become the assessor again. The
board has given the go ahead to
pursue the assessor’s certification
and to fill the assessors position. I
have applied for and received a
Michigan Conditional Certified
Assessing Officer certificate which
is valid until May 20, 2017. I also
applied for the Self-Study program
to receive my Michigan Certified
Assessing Officer Certification last
December and have been studying
for the test which I will take on
April 28, 017.
The Township is moving forward
on getting the Sewer project ap-
proved through the USDA. Hope-
fully the system will be completely
redone by this fall.
The Tax Increment Finance Au-
thority (TIFA) board needs input
from the Township residents on
how they want the township to
move forward with the Michi-
gamme River Basin water level
project. There should be a hear-
ing later this Spring concerning the
operation of the gates at the dam.
Please stay alert for the posting of
that meeting.
Last, there have been several
sightings/complaints about dogs
running loose, exhibiting aggres-
sive behavior and not under con-
trol of their owners.
In the highly populated areas of
the Township. This action is illegal
according to Township Ordinance
#2. The penalty for violating this
Ordinance is $100.00 or 90 days
imprisonment. You are required
to adhere to the Ordinance to
keep your dog under control by
voice command or leash while on
public property.
curb early as collection begins
as early as 6:30am. It is best
to have it out the night before
if possible. The transfer station
will be open on May,13th for
the first time, weather permit-
ting, and can accept almost
anything. Also on that day
and that day only, each
household will be able to
dump their first 500
pounds of refuse for free.
Summer is coming and the
critters will be out in force.
Please make sure your garbage
is in a secure container with a
lid, only household garbage
(kitchen and bath) is accepted
and all must be in bags. Other
trash such as broken furniture,
boxes and the like will not be
accepted. Also, please be sure
to have your garbage to the
Anything over the 500
pounds will be charged at
the regular rates. So, please
hold your transfer station items
until then. Recycling bins are
available in town across from the
town hall, please observe the
rules for these also. That means
no plastic bags, no furniture!!
When you put things in there
that don’t belong that costs all of
us more money!
Wishing you all a wonder East-
er and Summer season. May
we all continue to work to-
ward our common good!
“ Gossips are worse than
thieves because they steal
another person’s dignity, hon-
est reputation and credibility,
which are challenging to re-
store. Remember when your
feet slip, you can always recov-
er your balance. But when
your tongue slips, you cannot
recover your words…”
Karen Salmonsohn
I look forward to seeing you all
at our various fund raisers this
Spring and Summer season.
Kristina Koski, Treasurer
Thus far $13,178.76 has been
raised for the Veteran’s Me-
morial Fund. Construction
should begin as soon as the
snow melts and the ground is
viable. Look for some finishing
touches on the Northern
Lights Campground as well.
Reminder! July 1, 2017 sum-
mer taxes begin.

The Republic Township volunteer
EMS Department is in desperate
need of additional volunteers. The
current number
of volunteers
cannot adequate-
ly respond to all
of the medical
calls for the en-
tire township. If
10 or more peo-
ple sign up for
training, the goal
is to teach an
MFR or EMT class in the Republic
Fire Hall Winter 2017/2018.
All required expenses of the train-
ing will be paid by the Township or
will be reimbursed by the Township
when the volunteers finish the class
and obtain their license to practice.
If we do not get more volunteers ,
Republic Township license to
transport will be on the line.
Which means extra long wait times
for transport.
If you are interested in serving your
community as an MFR or EMT,
please call or text Hailie Dyer @

The Calendar Form will be having some
changes made to it this Spring. There are two
items that I have been having trouble with.
First, many people have had changes to their
Cell or landline phones in the last year or two
which makes it difficult for me to reach you if
I need to.
Second, is the mailing address that the orders
and payments are sent to. Please send it to
the address on the form, DO NOT send it to
Republic Fire Department, Republic, Michigan.
This can cause mail to get lost. Also, please
make your check payable to: Republic Fire
Department. Please send in the form with
your check.
If phone numbers can be updated and orders
sent where they need to go, everyone gets
their calendar in time with the correct infor-
mation on it with a lot less work.
Thanks Everyone! Shawn.
