The competencies, which are separated into essential competencies needed to ensure a minimal level of employability and recommended competencies, are organized by instructional units and include suggestions as to when students should be introduced to, reinforced, and proficient at them. The included Technical Competency Profile (TCP) matrix includes a list of 29 technical competencies that are required or recommended for the different types of employment listed above. Some of the common competencies are as follows: plant science; workplace safety; basic accounting; daily management tasks; supervision; sales and marketing; horticulture fundamentals; horticultural plant health care; equipment maintenance; soil science and management; and environmental science and ethics.
