The School Nutrition Program is Designed to:
• Provide good nutritious meals • Provide a better understanding of good nutrition

Menu Planning System in Schools
Food Based Offer versus Serve
• Offer versus serve allows students to take foods they will eat
• It helps decrease food waste and food cost
• If students like it, they will eat it - providing better nutrition
These food groups are used

Lunch Meals
• At lunch- can offer foods from all of the five (5) food groups.
• Components offered are: 1. Meats 2. Grains 3. Fruits 4. Vegetables 5. Milk
Offer versus Serve • Student may choose 3, 4, or 5 different
components to count as a reimbursable meal
• All food items are offered on all lines throughout the entire Serving time
A Reimbursable Meal: • MUST have one serving of fruit or veggie • May have 1 or 2 fruits AND 1 or 2
veggies.
• The fruit or veggie may be the same
• Students have the right to decline any component.
• Students do NOT have to take an entrée.
