What is reiki

eiki &pronounced ray+key) is a Aapanese term which means F*piritually guided universal life forceenergyG, similar to F(ranaG in *anskrit, F#hiG in #hinese and is known as F#osmic energyG to many.

It was &re)+discovered by Br. 'ikao =sui in nineteenth century. eiki as written in Haisho old

standard style used before World War II and during 'ikao =suis lifetime.

; eiki session involves transfer of energy &prana) from reiki healer to patient to enhance the

bodys natural ability to heal itself through the balancing of etheric energy centers and meridians

inetheric body. It works on all levels, body, mind, and spirit. You can heal yourself as well asothers. The reiki master teacher gives this healing ability &ability to tap prana from universe) in a

process known as reiki attunement. Buring this attunement he dissolves your many karmas and

reiki channel as he is able to channel this energy at his will, whenever, wherever and in whateveramount. eiki is currently practiced by over a million people worldwide.

removal of energy imbalance or clearing negative energy by such healing in any portion of the

Yes, reiki is a meditation techni!ue. eiki is an art of going beyond mind. It is completely up to theseeker how and where he utilities this energy, for materialistic gains or spiritual ascension or both.

*eeking enlightenment by meditating on light suits both formless &:irakar) and formful &*akar)

concepts of meditation. ;ll religion, culture and faiths in the world recognie was the dean of a small college teaching #hristianity in Hyoto and so, along with some of his

colleague, used to teach lessons from %ible about spiritual ways of life to live in peace, harmony

and compassion.

We all know that Aesus possesses miraculous healing powers, where, -ust by his touch, people were

known to get healed. %ible mentioned such powers many times. ?ne day one of his student asked to'ikao =sui that+ does the information in bible are true and accurate L does the Aesus really

possesses healing powers and healed many people -ust by his touch or blessings. L If yes, how Aesus

made this happen L Br. 'ikao =sui replied saying that in the bible Aesus says, K these miracles arenothing+ I demonstrate these only because you have little faith in power of od and after me will

come many who will do much more than I have done.K

The students were now more curious and asked Br. 'ikao =sui to teach him how Aesus healedothers. %y this we will be able to heal others and to ourselves also. Br. 'ikao =sui said that he dont

know that how did Aesus healed and he also admitted that Mord %uddha also possessed such healing

abilities before Aesus. *o he went to a %uddhist monastery to meet one of his friends to know how

did Mord %uddha did these healing miracles. %ut to his disappointment his friend also did not knewhow Mord %uddha did it, and he said that yes, Mord %uddha posses these healing powers but the

knowledge about these things are now lost. >e said that we are more concerned with spirit thenphysical body. Br. 'ikao =sui could not digest this as according to him ignoring physical flash in

pursuit of self+realie returned to the students and said as a teacher I must have known this, but now, as I am not!ualified to be your teacher anymore as per Aapanese tradition, so I am resigning from this college.

*tudents asked him that his resignation will be of no help to them as they wanted to know about this

healing method. This was the moment which made Br. 'ikao =sui to begin his search for this lost

method of spiritual healing. Br. 'ikao =sui went to many places to rediscover this method. >e firstwent to ;merica, to (hiladelphia but did not obtain anything of his interest. >e then came to India,

thinking that, it is the home of %uddhism and all sacred and esoteric knowledge. >e came to know

that he will have to study some holy scriptures which were written in *anskrit. Br. 'ikao =sui thenlearned *anskrit and also went to Tibet to study Motus *utras of %uddhism. >is search for this

continued over a period of 0 years.

;s all the intellectual and theoretical avenues had been covered, so he decided to go up onto theholy mountain and fast, pray and meditate. >e collected 1 stones so that he can keep track of days.

;s the days went by and he continued to fast and meditate, his awareness shifted. 0 days had been

passed, but on 1st day, he went through a metaphysical e"perience that finally gave him what helong for. %y mystical revelation he had gained the knowledge and spiritual power to apply and

attune and heal others, to what he called eiki. >e received some esoteric symbols also, now called

eiki symbols for healing. This is how lost healing method was &re)+discovered.

;fter having gained this esoteric knowledge, a series of une"pected things occurred with him.

While when he was stepping down the mount Huriyama he stubbed his toe on a rock, and becausehis nail had come off, it was bleeding now. ;s soon as he put his hands on his hurt toe, the pain and

the bleeding began to dissipate very rapidly. >e realiis hands were very hot. This was the first miracle of healing. ;fter healing his

toe, he continued down the mountain.

Durthermore, due to his fasting and strict penance, he has not eaten anything and was feeling

hungry, and therefore entered a restaurant+kiosks. >e ordered porridge which should be cold. Thewaiter told him that, as he has not eaten anything for many days, if he eats all this cold porridge, he

may fall sick. %ut Br. 'ikao =sui decided to eat cold porridge. ;ma

Bifferent degrees in reiki involve giving different initiations to disciple. Begrees basically refer to

the level of reiki attunement imparted on you. eiki initiation is, first and foremost, a meanscalculated to induce the beginner to discover for himself certain facts that are not directly revealed

to him but which, by the aid of symbolical rites, he will eventually perceive himself. It is not

intended to enlighten the beginner but rather to lead him to become conscious of what has hitherto

been hidden from him because his mental eye has not been capable of perceiving it.

eiki I degreeis the entry level. The disciple is attuned to reiki energy for the healing of

themselves, others, plants and animals etc. The disciple is e"plained how energy works in everyarea of our life and how we can harness its mystical power. The class can be one or two days long

depending upon teachers method of teaching and other re!uirements. The disciple get familiariow to heal

anybody not physically present &distance healing) is taught. enerally, it has been a tradition toteach II degree reiki method after 1 days of learning I degree reiki. This is due to the assumption

that we need to cleanse our basic etheric garbage in order to be more able to assimilate more

eiki was brought to west by 'rs. Takata. Aapan and western countries have different cultures and

ethos etc. 'rs. Takata realie taught reiki to

many beggars and some of them returned to their village to begin spending a productive and

purposeful life. They started becoming prosperous but as time passed, they could not give propertime to healing and as a result of this their life situations once again started getting worse. *ome of

Their have been many controversies about the precepts as their origin and other details were

kept hidden. eiki being e"tremely compatible with every eligion and spiritual practice gotmodified according as needed. It seems that you should N>onour your parents, teachers and

eldersO have been added later, once reiki was being taught in the West.

It has been claimed that the precepts originate in a book, published in =suiGs time, and it has

been claimed that they are based on the edicts of 'utsuhito, the 'ei-i Emperor. #ertainly it

seems that many Tendai and Pen %uddhist teachers were passing on similar principles in =sui*enseiGs time.

It is belived that the above precepts are written on linen and located at Br. =suis grave site. Thelocation of this grave site is still not publically disclosed.

The =sui eiki yoho akkai &*ociety of the =sui *piritual Energy >ealing 'ethod) claims tohave been created by Br. 'ikao =sui in 1. The society still e"ists today, and has its

president. It is closed to foreigners and members are asked not to discuss the details of the

society with non+members.

eiki symbols

The reiki has its origin at Aapan and therefore encompasses Aapanese ethos and culture. When thereiki was brought to west by 's. Takata she imbued sacredness in these symbols because Br.

>ayashi has taught her in that way. These symbols are not secret or occult but are e"pression of

powerful divinity. It is important to know that Br. =sui did not begin attuning others to reiki withsymbols. Dew things were added to reiki as a result of his e"perience gained in meditation and

practical life. Dor e"ample reikis five principals were added because of what happened in beggars

colony.

These symbols were e"perienced by him in his meditative states and he knew that the vibration ofthese symbols matches with some important $ healing vibrations. These symbols were written in

calligraphy or kan-i at his times and are now lost in Aapanese language. Br. 'ikao =sui was a

sagacious scholar having profound understanding of attunements, healing, spirituality and subtlepowers. >e gave these things to ordinary people in the form of reiki so that others do not have to

spent his whole life decoding and understanding spiritual scriptures. >e created a group $ society of

people who were interested in healing their lives with reiki. Whenever a society or group is formed

these things like some secrets shared among that group only arises. Whoever wants to learn reikiwas welcome. Aust give something in e"change and the method and secrets were revealed to him.

In many spiritual systems it has been very common that the master gives a secret mantra &bee-mantra) to his disciple. The disciple may think that the mantra revealed to him is very common and

he has encountered it many times like in books, then what was the reason of giving this mantra so

secretly in a sacred ceremony. %ut we all know the miracles of masters grace and blessings. Themantra and symbols given by masters carry divine energy in them and e"pedite our progress.

Without attuning reiki symbols in you by a reiki master, you can not carry their energy in your aura.

=nderstand that there is nothing secret in reiki. It is a method of teaching healing energies in an

was a deeply dedicated reiki master and retired marine officer. Br. >ayashi founded a clinic in

Hyoto and Tokyo, which was visited by >awayo Takata from >awaii in order to remedy her tumorin 1/4. *he was successfully healed and thereafter become the reiki channel herself. In 1/5, Br.

>ayashi visited her for several months and gave her further training. %efore his departure in

Debuary of 1/6, he initiated her to be the first reiki master &'aster of the Br. =sui eiki *ystem of

>ealing), at that time in =*;. %efore the outbreak of the war between Aapan and =*;, Br. >ayashibestwed her the title of reiki master and his authoriawayo Takata. *he initiated and trained 1 reiki masters, among

them (hyllis Mei Durumoto, her granddaughter whom she had already initiated into reiki duringchildhood. >awayo Takata in Becember 160 declared her granddaughter (hyllis Mei Durumoto, to

be her successor and authoriealing. 'any

masters have been initiated by her and other reiki masters in meantime so that there are nowcurrently several thousands who initiate and teach reiki through out the entire world. eiki and

alternative therapies are now common.

#ode of ethics for reiki practitioner

;ll eiki healers must follow the code of ethics for reiki healer that has been laid out for them. The

reiki ethical code lays out what the relationship between the practitioner and the client. It is a code

of conduct that the practitioner should follow with his patient at all times. @iolating it wouldamount to breech of trust between the healer and the patient. iven below is a brief description of

the ethical code for reiki healer8

%efore drawing the energy on a person, reiki master should prepare the patient mentally for it. If

he$she does not want to be in contact with reiki, he$she may not respond to reiki.

(ractitioner should inform the client that reiki is not replacement for medical care. >e should

e"plain that it is important for the over all well+being of the person.

#lient sessions should be held in a secure and comfortable place.

%efore the healer begins a reiki session, he should tell the patient what he may e"perience during

the session. >e should discuss with the dis+eased person what is going to happen during and afterthe session.

(ersonal details of the client should not be revealed, unless the client himself has given youpermission to do so. The eiki healer should not disclose or confirm the fact that a particular person

is a client, unless he has prior permission and the consent of the client to do so.

The healer should teach the dis+eased person value of reiki and e"plain to them that the sessions

do not guarantee complete healing or complete recuperation.

;t all times treat the client with great respect and honor.

; healer must respect the opinion, views and methods followed by other eiki practitioners. It is

entirely up to the healer concerned to decide whether he wants to learn from other healers or wantsto follow their methods. %ut there should be no fault with the way he practices eiki.

(ractice must be conducted with confidentiality and great discretion. (ractitioner+clientconfidentiality must be maintained at all costs. ;nything that is discussed between the two should

not be disclosed.

The healer should find out whether the client is undergoing any medical treatment. If thepractitioner thinks that a client re!uires professional medical attention then he should suggest to the

client that he gets it. eiki is a supplement to medical treatment and therefore the practitioner

should be aware of any medical history of the client.

The healer should not tell the client to disrobe unless he is also a legally licensed massage

therapist in the country in which he practices. >e should never touch the genital area or breasts. Totreat these areas he should only practice hands+off techni!ues.

Treatment guidelines

The treatment guidelines given here are most commonly followed protocol. With enough practice

you yourself will be able to develop your own way of working with reiki and patients.

%efore starting the reiki session, always ask your patient to close his eyes and be thankful andwelcoming towards divine love and healing energies that he is going to recieve. You can also

ask them to focus on some pleasant feelings, white light coming to them or some symbol they

already use in their meditation practice if any.

Irrespective of the dis+ease or problem, always give reiki to manipura chakra, because this is the

power center from where the absorption and regulation of prana occurs and this chakra alwaysget affected whenever there is any dis+ease or problem.

;lways ask your patient to increase his water intake as water help in circulating energy, keepscells in healthy conditions and help in removing negative energy through urine.

%efore giving reiki treatment counsel the patient with aim of shifting his focus from problem tosolution. 'otivate him to open up with you and tell you whatever issue he is holding onto.

*how him specific ways that will help him in bringing positive changes in his life. ;lways build

a rapport with him.

If the time and conditions permit, give reiki to ear because there are many nerve that end hereand are connected to brain and other organs. Every organ has a nerve supply which can either

speed up or slow down the functions of that particular organ and therefore giving reiki to earwill not only heal many organs simultaneously but also will remove negative energy $ thoughts

from brain.

;sk the dis+eased person to increase spinach &palak) and beetroot &chukandar) intake for atleast

14 days. This will increase the hemoglobin level, which will greatly help in better absorption

and retention of prana thereby e"pediting healing process and permanent results.

:ever play with the trust your patient has on you. ;lways honor his faith. ;lways follow code

of ethics for reiki practitioner.

If you are fre!uently dealing with patients, it is good idea to take rock salt water bath in order to

release any negative thought forms you may have taken subconsciously. It is natural that the dis+eased person will also show some psychological things like lack or

decrease in confidence and lack of enthusiasm, up to some e"tent. These things will get healedautomatically when you heal the dis+ease.

;sk the dis+eased person to wear loose and comfortable clothes for reiki session and the healershould also wear comfortable clothes.

Treat until you feel the rise and fall of energy, or if you do not e"perience energy physically,-ust treat for 4 minutes at dis+eased part or area.

;sk your patient to write the things that are not working in their life the way they want. Includeall areas as it would help in figuring out where e"actly the problem lies more easily.

unwillingness to heal at subconscious level.

of your palm.
