The Masters Section

Usui received all the attunements in one go andhe subsequently, for a time, passed on all of hisknowledge to his pupils in one session.

Since then the presentation of Reiki has changeda little.

Mrs Takata came up with the idea of charging$10,000 for the Master attunement.

Then some of Mrs Takatas students came up withthe idea of introducing a waiting time between

attunements.

Reiki energy vibrates at its own frequency and is

guided by the higher God consciousness.

That much remains unchanged.

The rest is style, personal choice andpresentation.

In other words there is no right or wrong waywith Reiki.

We, as you already know, decided to attunepeople to the Reiki energy in the very same way inwhich Dr Usui was attuned and, consequently, wegave, and continue to give, all of the attunements andinformation in one session too.

We came to this way of working as being the rightway for us to pass on Reiki quite intuitively.

It just seemed to be the natural progression of

our own on-going Reiki development.

You, of course, are free to teach Reiki inwhatever way works best for you.

If separating it into three parts again feels like thebest way forward for you then please do so. You willvery soon be (or have already become) an IndependentReiki Master, and the accent is very much on the word

Independent

Just follow your Reiki intuition; it will never letyou down.

The Usui Master SymbolDai Koo Myo

The sacred name of the symbol is DAI KOO MYO.This is pronounced as DIE-KOH-ME-OH. The UsuiMaster Symbol is used for self-empowerment, andattunements. It connects with the divinity that is at theinner core of each of us, and brings the Universal

Energy, right into that space.

The symbol is translated variously as, Treasurehouse of the great beaming light; Great Being of theUniverse shine on me, be my friend; and by Mrs Takata

as Praise be to the great Universal light oftranscendental wisdom.

In essence the Master symbol transforms theperson invoking it, into the treasure house, bringinggreat power and, also, great responsibility.

Some Reiki Masters teach that the symbol is forMaster attunements only.

Others use it for attuning all degrees.

Some Reiki Masters teach that it may be used inhealing, others that to use it for healing another meansto take on responsibility for the healing of the person inquestion.

We use it for everything, and we dont believethat you take on anyones responsibility for anything.

Ultimately it is up to the individual to own theirMastership and in so doing make the symbol theirown - exploring all possibilities for its use.

As with all Reiki symbols the energy of the Mastersymbol is accessed by drawing out its form and sayingits sacred name three times. If circumstances permit, itis always best to draw the symbol out in the air, at a

size that feels comfortable to you, whilst saying itssacred name aloud.

You can use any of the following three ways fordrawing it out with the hand.

One is to keep the hand flat with the fingerstogether and imagine the energy streaming out fromthe palm chakra. Another is to cone all five fingerstogether using them as a point to direct the energy.

The third is to just use the middle or fire fingerand imagine the Reiki energy issuing from it like a laserbeam

If you find that it is sometimes impractical toflamboyantly draw the symbol out in the air with yourhands, it can be traced, more discretely, with the tip ofthe nose or even the tongue.

It can even be visualised and projected mentally,line by line, or as a complete entity.

If you would like to visualise it in colour VioletLight is widely accepted as being the most suitable butGold, Blue, Purple or any of the higher colours arealso okay. Of course, if you are drawing the symboldiscretely, you only have to say the sacred name inyour mind.

The Usui Master symbol creates a powerfulchannel of energy, and can be used to empoweranything

Situations, objects, or personal growth anddevelopment.

It can also be used to cleanse and bless.

When it is used the Master symbol is placedbefore all other symbols. However, to drive the intent,you can cover the Master symbol with the Power

symbol.

Reiki Attunements

Reiki attunements are a powerful spiritual

initiation - they are what is at the heart of Reiki.

The attunement energy is Divinely inspired, andoriginates from the Divine Source itself - by whatevername you may wish to call it.

We, as you probably already know, prefer theterm God.

The following procedures are basic methods forReiki 1, Reiki 2 and Reiki Master.

We are going to give them to you as if you aredoing all the initiations separately.

This way you will have the choice of whether tocontinue doing individual classes or combine them all into one class, as we do.

Prepare for all attunements by asking for the helpof your Reiki guides, who are always there for you now,and state the intention for this to be either a ReikiLevel 1, Level 2 or Master initiation, as appropriate.

Draw the Usui Master and Power symbols on thepalms of each of your hands, and then draw the Powersymbol down the front of your body and over each ofyour chakras to open yourself to the energy. Then toclear the room go to each side of the room in turn anddraw the Power Symbol.

Repeat this procedure using the Mental/Emotional

Symbol and then repeat again with the Power Symbol.

Finally, draw the four Usui Reiki symbols in thecentre of the room intending their energy to bless andfill the space. This ritual is best performed prior to thecommencement of the class.

Initiates are seated in an upright chair for allattunements; hands are held together in the prayer

position at the heart chakra, moving them up to thecrown chakra and back to the heart, as directed.

The level 1 Attunement is given in four stages;the Level 2 and Master attunements are both one-stageattunements.

First Degree Attunement

The level 1 attunement is given in four stages.

The attunements place the sacred symbols in thecrown chakra, third eye and palm chakras. This has theeffect of raising the vibrations of the energy in thephysical body.

STAGE 1

Stand behind the student and place both handsover the top of the students head to gain rapportand tune in.

Trace the Usui Master Symbol over the studentshead, using your dominant hand as a guide.Picture the symbol moving into the crown chakrathrough the head to the base of the brain. As youfollow it on its journey, silently chant the sacred

name of the symbol three times. Once each at thecrown chakra, the third eye chakra and at thecerebral cortex.

Squeeze the students left shoulder as a signal toraise the hands to the top of the head.

Hold the students hands with your non-dominanthand and draw the Power Symbol in the air abovethem with your free hand. Picture the symbolmoving into the hands, through the crown chakra

to the base of the brain. As you follow it on itsjourney, silently chant the sacred name of thesymbol three times. Once each at the fingertips,the crown chakra and at the cerebral cortex.

Return the students hands to the original positionin front of the heart.

Move to the front of the student and open thestudents hands out flat with your non-dominanthand.

using your fire finger (middle finger). Silentlychant the sacred name of the symbol three timesin time with the shooting motion.

Replace the students hands together in front ofthe heart and then using one breath, blow fromthe students hands, downwards to the solarplexus, then upwards through the hands to thecrown chakra, back down through the hands tothe solar plexus, and then back to the hands.

Move behind the student and place your hands onthe students shoulders. Look down through thecrown chakra to the student's heart chakra, andmake a positive affirmation - [eg. You are now aconfident and successful Reiki I healer.] State the

affirmation, silently, three times and intend that itbe accepted by the students sub-conscious mind.

Place your thumbs at the base of the studentsskull and say silently to your-self, I now seal thisprocess with Divine Love and Wisdom. Picture adoor with the Power Symbol on it being closedand locked. Intend that the process is completeand that the student is now connected directly tothe Reiki source.

Place your hands on the students shoulders andsay silently to yourself, We are both blessed bythis process.

Move to the front of the student, remove thehands from the heart position, and lay thempalm-down on the thighs. In the case of groupattunements this step is left until all studentshave been attuned.

Second Degree Attunement

At Level 2 there is only one attunement.

The Level 2 attunement accesses the etheric bodymore directly, through the symbols. As well asempowering the symbols for the student, it tends tostimulate psychic development, and intuitivesensitivity.

Usui Master Attunement

As at Level 2 there is only one attunement for theMaster Level. The Master Level attunement is aconfirmation of the students commitment to his orher own process of evolution. It is also hoped thatthe student will go on to teach the Reiki energy toothers, thereby helping to raise the vibrations ofmany.

Following any Reiki attunement there is a periodof time, normally 3 to 4 weeks during which cleansingcan be acute. This may be minimised by the avoidanceof red meat, tobacco, alcohol or other chemicalsubstances for at least three days prior to theattunement.

Cleansing takes place on all levels physical,mental, emotional and spiritual. The more the Reikienergy is allowed to flow, the more beneficial thecleansing; hands on Reiki can be particularlycomforting at this time. Drinking water is veryimportant, as it will assist the process, and help tominimise the discomfort of releasing toxins.

The Tibetan Reiki Symbols

Although the symbols given are called Tibetan,their true origins are not known.

The information available through our lineage,concerning these symbols, is that they came to theWest via Reiki Masters who were initiated into themwhilst studying in China and Asia. It is possible that thesymbols are shamanic.

This presents no conflict with Reiki since shamanicpractices have provided spiritual initiation for as long ashas been known. Shamanic traditions are oral andexperiential, and provide personal growth through thefacing and working through of our fears. Often thismeans facing the fear of death, and letting go ofpersonal control. (Just like Usui on Mount Koriyama).

Although the symbols can be used as a stand-

alone Reiki system we believe that this is restrictiveand limiting. It is in their utilisation alongside othertechniques that their greatest benefit may bediscovered. That the symbols work is beyond doubt,but they are not traditional Usui symbols. Masters willhave to gauge for themselves the power of thesesymbols and decide what part, if any, they are to playin the Reiki process.

The Tibetan Master SymbolDai Ko Mio

The TibetanMaster symbolinvokes a differentvibration from that ofthe Usui MasterSymbol. It is unlikelythat the origin of thesymbol is strictlyTibetan, indeed aswith all mysticsymbols, the notion

of an origin is not really appropriate because they aremultidimensional. This symbol comes to the West viaReiki Masters who were initiated in its application byway of China and Asia, and is passed on through thelineage of Reiki Master William L Rand.

A comprehensive interpretation of the symbol isnot available, but the lightning flash may be thought ofas a variation of the Raku or Fire Serpent symbol. Thisis seen acting in the space between a double spiralformed by the divine and the physically manifest, thuslinking the two.

The symbol has a powerful clearing and cleansing

property and may be used to clear any blockages to theUsui attunement energy. It dispels negative energy.Rooms, situations, and people may be cleansed ofnegative energy using this symbol.

Some Reiki Masters teach the use of this symbolas an integral part of the attunement process, usingkidney-breathing techniques to empower it. Othersdouble the number of zig-zags, and call it by a different

name, Motor Zanon, using it in healing situations tocounteract viruses.

Through a process of exploration and discoverythe individual will find other uses for this symbol. Apartfrom the control of others, which is impossible, theuses are unlimited.

This symbol is also called Dai Ko Mio. That thespelling is slightly different from the Usui Mastersymbol may be an attempt to indicate that this symbolinvokes energy of a different vibration. However thepronunciation is identical. Indeed the term Dai Ko Mioseems to be a generic name for a Master Symbolrelating to any esoteric metaphysical practice.

According to the teaching of Reiki Master SimonTreselyan the Tibetan Dai Ko Mio shows similaritieswith Tibetan Domo, or ritual practices for the clearingof negative energies. The primary association to bemade in relation to this is to see a horn, created by thetwo lines emanating from the spiral, which forms a

receptacle for the positive lightning flash to dispel anynegative energy into. This negativity would then bespiralled away to infinity for transformation in theenergy field of the universe. The lightning flash is alsofound in cabalistic empowerment ritual.

As already stated the Tibetan Dai Ko Mio isprimarily used as a cleanser, and clears any blockagesto the Usui attunement energy. Thus it has a major

application in the attunement process. It invokes apowerful clearing energy, of itself, and this may be putto use in any situation, which demands a high integrityclearing.

The Fire Serpent Symbol

This symbol is oftenreferred to by two othernames: the FIRE DRAGON andRAKU. The symbol seems torepresent the Life Force withthe loops of the serpentmoving through the seven

chakras, ending in a spiral atthe base, which is the seat ofthe Kundalini energy. The FireSerpent can be used to nicelybalance the chakra energies,which is useful both in healingsituations, and prior to theattunements. A note ofcaution: some believe that

drawing the symbol in reverse,up the spine, can result inunpleasant effects fromdisturbing the Kundalini energyof the root chakra.

As with the Dai Ko Mio, it isunlikely that the origin of thissymbol is strictly Tibetan,although it is often referred to

as such. It comes to the Westvia Reiki Masters who wereinitiated into its application byway of China and Asia, thencethrough the lineage of ReikiMaster William L Rand.

Together with the Tibetan DaiKo Mio this symbol seems to

create another means of accessing the Great Spirit.

The serpent symbol resembles Asian

correspondences to the raising of the Kundalini. The

seven loops of the symbol relate to the seven majorchakras in the body, spiralling into the base chakra,which is the seat of the Kundalini energy.

Reiki Master Simon Treselyan suggests that thesymbol is only one half of a double interwoven element,and that if the symbol is duplicated in reverse itprovides for more balance in the energy. It would alsothen resemble the caduceus, and the DNA double helix.

Reiki Master Diane Stein, suggests that thissymbol is a variant form of the Raku symbol whichappears as the lightning flash of the Tibetan Dai KoMio, and that this is the symbol that grounds the Reikienergy, or brings it to Earth.

The symbol is used in attunements to balancechakra energies and help clear a channel for theattunement. It may also be used in clearing auras, and

to balance chakras, either as part of a treatment orwhenever the situation demands.

Breath TechniquesThe Dragons Breath

Whilst intention is the most important element inpassing attunements, the breath is fundamental to theprocess. Consequently, attention to breath technique isrecommended [some teachers say it is vital]. Whatfollows is a description of breath techniques, whichhave particular application in the passing of Reikiattunements.

Throughout these breathing practices the subtleenergy circuit of the body is maintained in a closedcondition as follows:-

The Hui Yin point is held in contraction. The HuiYin is the pressure point found at the perineum; itlies between the anus and the vagina in womenand between the anus and the scrotum in men.Contracting the Hui Yin and holding it with

comfort may take a little practice. Begin bycontracting twenty times, and then holding aslong as possible. Eventually it will be possible toclose the Hui Yin simply by thinking it closed.

Kidney Breathing:

This is the process of breathing the Raku energyinto the body. The kidneys are one of two key energycentres in the body [the other is the eyes].

Focus above your crown and visualise adeep cobalt blue mist. Breathing throughyour mouth, inhale deeply, expanding yourlower abdomen. Mentally direct the bluemist into your kidneys.

Breathe out a white mist.This can be practised by placing the hands over

the kidneys, and with each inhalation feel the handslifting off; with every exhalation allow the hands toreturn to the body. After practising for a while theenergy will be felt without having to use the hands.

Violet Breath:

Focus above your crown and visualise a whitemisty light. Breathing through your mouth, inhaledeeply, expanding your lower abdomen. Mentally,see this white misty light enter your crown chakraand flow through your tongue, down the front ofyour body (Functional Channel), to collect at theHui Yin point.

Hold your breath and see the white light rise upyour spine (Governor Channel) to the centre ofyour head.

Imagine the white mist inside your head turningto blue and beginning to spin with a clockwiserotation. As it spins see it turn from Blue to Violetor Royal Purple. It may then turn to Goldautomatically, but this is not a conscious part ofthis process. [In the lineage of Reiki MasterWilliam L. Rand, Violet is the final step; however,Reiki Master Kathleen Milner teaches that the

Attunements Using the TibetanSymbols

Prepare for all attunements by asking for the helpof your Reiki guides, and state the intention for this tobe a Reiki Level 1, Level 2 or Master, as appropriate.Draw the Usui Master, Tibetan Master and Powersymbols on the palms of each of your hands, and thendraw the Power symbol down the front of your bodyand over each of your chakras to open yourself to theenergy. Then to clear the room go to each side of theroom in turn and draw the Power Symbol. Repeat thisprocedure using the Mental/Emotional Symbol and thenrepeat again with the Power Symbol. Finally, draw all ofthe Reiki symbols into the room intending their energyto bless and fill the space. This ritual is best performedprior to the commencement of the class.

Initiates are seated in an upright chair for allattunements; hands are held together in the prayer

position at the heart chakra, moving to the crownchakra and back to the heart, as directed. The level 1Attunement is given in four stages; the Level 2 andMaster attunements are both one-stage attunements.

The Hui Yin contraction is held, with the tongue tothe alveolar ridge, for the duration of the transmissionof the attunements. This is released when theceremony is complete.

Cleansing takes place on all levels physical,mental, emotional and spiritual. The more the Reikienergy is allowed to flow, the more beneficial the

cleansing; hands on Reiki can be particularlycomforting at this time. Drinking water is important atthis time in particular, as it will assist the process, andhelp to minimise the discomfort of releasing toxins.

Self-Attunement &Empowerment Exercises

Self Attunement.

Assume a relaxed meditative position, with yourhands over your heart.

Tune in to the Reiki energy; visualise a shaft ofgolden light connecting you to the Source, and tothe planet centre.

Call upon your guides, and state your intention. Leave your non-dominant hand resting on your

heart, and raise your dominant hand above yourcrown.

Trace the Tibetan Master symbol above yourcrown chakra and chant its sacred name threetimes, then with a deep breath draw the symbolinto your body, through your crown, past your

third eye and throat, to your heart chakra. Repeat the previous step using the Fire Serpent

symbol. Repeat the previous step using the Usui Master

symbol. Repeat the previous step using the Distance

symbol. Repeat the previous step using the

Mental/Emotional symbol. Repeat the previous step using the Power symbol.

Place both hands on your heart chakra and bringyour attention into your centre.

Move your hands into the prayer position, at yourheart chakra.

Visualise the Usui Master symbol and chanting itssacred name three times, move your handsupwards over the crown chakra and outwards in acircular fashion to return to the prayer position atyour heart chakra.

Place one hand over the other, with palms facingdownwards, and push the palms to the basechakra level whilst visualising the Power Symbol.Make the following statement, aloud if possible: Iestablish my Divine presence on Earth.

Repeat the whole sequence two more times, tomake a total of three times.

Self-Energising Exercise

This technique uses the Tibetan Master symboland produces a charge of energy. It can be particularlyuseful for reviving oneself, and others, from tiringsituations.

Stand up straight. Locate the energy point on the shoulder

blade around four inches [10cm] in from theshoulder joint.

Massage this point, with a steady fingerpressure, using a clockwise motion for aboutone minute. At the same time visualise theTibetan Master symbol and continue tochant its sacred name in mantra fashion.

Repeat this process on the other shoulder. Repeat the whole process another two

times, so that it has been performed a totalof three times.

Make a fist with the dominant hand, andgently tap the centre of the chest for aboutone minute. Once again visualise the TibetanMaster symbol whilst doing this, and chantits sacred name. This final step stimulatesthe thymus gland, which aids the energisingprocess.

Self-Empowerment Exercise

This exercise is not a part of Reiki practice, but itsform is recognised within the White Eagle Lodge as theTree of Life, and in martial arts practices as DrawingDown the Sun. The intention of the exercise is to createa bridge between the Earth and the Spiritual Planeusing the body. Drawing the Earth energy upwards anddispersing it outwards empowers each individual

chakra. The exercise makes a good starting point for aworkshop class. All breathing is through the mouth.

Stand with feet shoulder width apart, and facingthe Sun, the Moon, or the dawn, as appropriate. Raise your arm over your head, and form a

triangle with the forefingers and thumbs of bothhands. Use this triangle to frame the Sun [orMoon], and focus its energy into your third eye.

Bend down, and allow your arms to drop in frontof you dragging the knuckles on the ground.

Then straighten up whilst taking a deep breath.As you do, intend that you are drawing powerfrom the Earth with your breath, pulling theenergy up through your chakras.

As your hands reach your jaw, exhale forcefully,blowing into your palms. Continue to move yourhands upward beyond your crown chakra andoutwards in circular fashion.

Take an in-breath as you bring your hands to yourheart chakra level. Place one hand over the other,with palms facing downwards, and push the palms

to the base chakra level whilst blowing out gently. Repeat the whole four-step sequence six more

times, to make a total of seven times, once foreach chakra.

The Healing Attunement

By giving a healing attunement it is possible tospeed-up a healing situation, without attuning therecipient as a Reiki channel. The form of thisattunement is similar to the initiation attunements,however in this case none of the symbols are placedinto the recipients hands.

The recipient sits upright, in a straight-backedchair, with feet firmly on the floor and hands resting,

palms down, on the thighs. The recipients eyes are to

remain closed throughout, and the attention should befocused on the problem to be addressed.

Draw the Usui Master and Power symbols on thepalms of each of your hands, then draw the Powersymbol down the front of your body and over each ofyour chakras to open yourself to the energy. Cleanseand clear the room as shown above in connection withthe Usui attunements. Finally, draw all of the Reikisymbols into the room intending their energy to blessand fill the space. This ritual may be performed prior tothe commencement of the session. Stand behind theclient/recipient to prepare for the attunement. Say asilent prayer asking for the help of the Reiki guides,and personal Spirit guides, and state the intention forthis to be a healing attunement.

(Do not actuallytouch the top of the head, or your client will jumpoff the chair!)




Repeat the previous step using the Power Symbol. Blow, from the recipients solar plexus, up the

body to the crown chakra back down to the solarplexus and then up to the crown again. As youblow, use your hands to guide the energy up,down then up again and have the clear intentionof sweeping any negative energy out to the light.If the client/recipient has described a shape, or a

colour, visualise this moving out to the light. Move to the back and place your hands on therecipients shoulders. Look down through thecrown chakra to the heart chakra looking for asoft pink glow, and make a positive affirmation -[eg. You are now completely healed with DivineLove.] State the affirmation, silently, three timesand intend that it be accepted by the recipientssub-conscious mind.
