Dealer Technician Helpline

What to do After Calling the Helpline:

• Follow the recommendation given to you by the Helpline

• Update the VTA case with your findings and/or results

• Call back if/when more assistance is needed

Any delay in communicating with the Helpline slows down the escalation process

It is VERY important to manage your VTA cases every day. Any open case is viewed as a “vehicle down.”

If the customer takes the vehicle for any reason, the vehicle is no longer considered “down” and the case should be closed.

Telediagnosis

When necessary, Helpline personnel can take command of your scan tool to help with diagnosis. This is called Telediagnosis.

For this to happen:

• Ensure a battery charger is connected to the vehicle.

• Have a hard-wired internet connection to the scan tool. Make sure the scan tool is updated to the latest software level.

• Have access to a phone at the vehicle, in case other actions become necessary.

• For additional information regarding telediagnosis, reference Tech Tips 00-11-05 and 00-07-90.

After a Helpline Consultant has taken over your scan tool, they will talk to you as they are performing certain processes. Remember, they are only seeing the scan tool screen. You are their eyes and ears for what’s happening with the vehicle.
