Recital Newsletter

We Will Rock You – June 13, 2020

Dear Parents,

Thank you so much for choosing to further your child’s dance abilities at Center Stage this year. We are proud to showcase

everything our students have learned in our 2020 production, “We Will Rock You”. This handout has very important information

regarding recital that we would like for you to be aware of. In order for recital to run smoothly, please read carefully over this and

keep to reference at a later date. Once again, it has been an honor to inspire excellence in your child this year through the art of dance.

REHEARSAL:

• Recital rehearsal will be held at Enterprise Performing Arts Center on Friday, June 12. The schedule is in this packet on a

separate page for you to reference.

• Rehearsal is NOT DRESS rehearsal. Costumes and make-up are not needed.

• Rehearsal is an OPEN rehearsal, and anyone can watch.

• We generally practice in the order of the show so everyone can get a ‘feel’ for how the show will run.

RECITAL:

• “We Will Rock You” will be held on Saturday, June 13 at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. at the Enterprise High School Performing

Arts Center. The address is 1801 Boll Weevil Circle, Enterprise, Alabama. The performing arts center is attached to Enterprise

High School. PLEASE DO NOT BE LATE!

• Please take students to the side of the auditorium to the dressing rooms between 9:30-9:45 a.m. or 1:30-1:45 p.m. for the show/s.

Please have them there NO LATER than 9:45 a.m. (morning) or 1:45 p.m. (afternoon). Make sure you check your child in with

the backstage director.

• Dancers and mothers are the only people allowed backstage in the dressing rooms. Absolutely no men or boys are in the dressing

rooms. All male students should be checked in and dropped off at the check-in area on the side of the stage.

• Only one parent should go backstage to drop their child/children off, NOT the entire family. The parent will receive a wristband

with the child’s name on it, in the color of the group. The parent must have a wristband to return backstage to check out the child.

No one will be allowed to pick up a child without a wristband. Once you drop your child off you must go back to the front of the

building (lobby) to enter the auditorium. No other family members are allowed backstage.

• Use the restroom before getting into your costume!

• Remember the last day of spring session is May 24th. May tuition must be paid in full before the recital. All outstanding

balances will be due before recital or your child will not be allowed to participate in the recital.

• No Food or drinks in dressing rooms except water. Students should bring books, games, cards or something to do if they have a

lot of time between their dances. No paints, glue, etc... Or anything else that might get on costumes!

• Dancers will not be allowed to leave the backstage area. Security will not allow any dancer to leave the recital until AFTER the

show is over. This is to ensure your child’s safety.

• Curtain Call for the dancers, company members, and staff will take place after the last dance number. This is when the students

and staff will be recognized for all their hard work and dedication throughout the year. We recognize the students with a ‘gift’ so

please be sure to stay until the end.

• Please refrain from walking around during dances. It is distracting to the dancers on stage and others in the audience. If you need

to exit or enter the audience during the recital, PLEASE do so between dances – not during!

• No flash photography allowed! Flash photography is dangerous to the dancers on stage and can blind them!

• No VIDEOTAPING ALLOWED! This is due to privacy reasons and licensing. Choreography and music is licensed and

copyrighted. We have to pay license fees for music and therefore, we do NOT allow videotaping.

• No phones allowed during Recital! You MAY take photographs or video tape during the rehearsal or after recital only. For

everyone’s privacy, no video or photos allowed in any of the dressing rooms!

Reminders:

READY TO PERFORM – Please have students dressed for their first dance with their hair and make-up complete. Make-up is a

necessity due to the harsh stage lighting. All our girl dancers need make-up in order to not be washed out on stage. We recommend

base/powder, blush, black eyeliner, black mascara, lipstick, and eyeshadow (neutral colors are fine).

WORKERS/ HELPERS – We will have workers backstage to make sure that all students get the help they need to change costumes.

Moms are also welcome to help their child, if they so desire. If coming back stage, be sure to have your armband on where it can be

seen. You will not be allowed into a dressing room without one!

HAIR – Unless otherwise instructed, hair should be slicked back into a tight bun on the back of the head (not on top). Bun should be

secured with a HAIRNET in the color of the dancer’s hair. If your headpiece is a hat, you will be told if modifications to the

Page 3: Recital Information Packet - Center Stage Dance Studio€¦ · Recital Information Packet We have attempted to combine all of our information on the end-of-the-season recital in order

placement of the bun must be made – usually a low bun or ponytail. Unless otherwise instructed, NO BANGS PERMITTED since

bangs obscure the face and we want to see your face. Spray, Gel or Mousse all loose ends. No dangles or curly ends permitted. If

you need clips to secure your hair, they MUST BE THE COLOR OF YOUR HAIR. Almost all hair lengths can get into a bun –

practice. EVERY BUN must have a HAIRNET!

ABSOLUTELY NO UNDERWEAR – No underwear should be worn under your tights or costumes. Your tights will act like

underwear. If you need to wear a bra, make sure it is BEIGE and that the bra straps cannot be seen when wearing the costume.

JEWELRY – No jewelry may be worn on stage or for pictures other than a) small stud earrings in the ears and/or b) accessories that

have been assigned. This is a safety measure as well as for uniformity. No necklaces, dangling earrings, rings, anklets, etc. can be

worn. Leave any valuables at home. We are not responsible for any lost jewelry.

NO NAIL POLISH, VISIBLE TATTOOS OR PIERCINGS – Clear nail polish or no nail polish at all. No white tips. If you wear

colored polish you will need to remove it before pictures and before performance. All tattoos and body piercings must be covered or

removed.

NAME IN ALL COSTUME PIECES – Put your student’s last name and first initial in all costume pieces, including tights, shoes,

gloves, sashes, headpieces, cuffs, etc. We have no extra costume pieces! Keep up with your costume pieces! Every student in the

class has the same costume – how will you know which costume or accessory belongs to you? Bring all costumes, accessories, tights,

shoes, safety pins, hair necessities, and make-up backstage.

SHOES – All ballet shoes must have the RIBBONS TAPED IN. All tap shoes must be the buckle kind (age 4) or be double knotted

(older classes) or be the slip-on version. All jazz shoes must have the color required for the class and costume. Label shoes with your

child’s name. Be sure to wipe off all your shoes so that they are show ready! Magic erasers work wonders on most shoes. Also, be

sure to have the correct color shoes that are listed as part of your costume on our accessory list. If you need to purchase new shoes, do

not wait until the last minute! Never EVER wear dance shoes outside!

RECITAL OBLIGATIONS – Studio policy is that each student in each routine must be uniform in costume, shoes, and hair. We

provide all accessories needed – tights, headpieces, bows, gloves, etc. to ensure uniformity. We expect every student to follow our

instructions – no nail polish, no dangling earrings, no jewelry, tattoos, or underwear. If you are a new student, please be aware that we

are strict regarding our policy. We run a top-shelf production and you can be part of something very special, but everyone must

cooperate.

Parents – your child works very hard on their dance technique and routines during the year and we know you will do your part to

prepare them for the big day. Again, we run a professional show including scenery, props, and lighting. Please be sure to ask any

questions that you may have and plan ahead.

Check out: (To ensure the safety of our students, please follow these procedures)

Parents need to check-out their child in the dressing rooms after the recital curtain call. For the safety of your

children, we are NOT going to allow them to go off the front of the stage or without being checked out by a teacher.

1. We will close the curtains for safety.

2. All students will then be escorted back to the dressing rooms.

3. Please wait in the lobby for a teacher/ staff member to escort you to the backstage area to complete check-outs. A staff

member will come to the lobby with a colored card to match your armbands, at that time, you will be allowed to go to the

dressing room to sign your child out.

4. After you check your child out in the dressing room, you will be allowed to go back on stage for pictures or out front in the

lobby.

5. All dressing rooms will be color coded this year. Your armband will match the dressing room. The parent’s (only 1

parent per child) armband will be the following colors:

a. Preballet Classes – Hot Pink

b. 4/5 Ballet/ Tap/ Jazz Classes – Neon Blue

c. 6-7 Classes – Lime Green

d. 8-9 Classes - Red

e. Teen – Yellow

f. Gentlemen – Orange

g. Company - Gold

Please Remember

It is an honor and privilege to perform in the Center Stage Dance Studio annual production; not an expected result of paying tuition.

We are happy that you’ve chosen to be part of something so special and will work extremely hard to make it a wonderful experience!

Optional Expenses for Recital:

• Recital ads – Recital ads are a way to commemorate your dancer in our Souvenir programs. Programs contain

pictures of all of our teachers, groups, and a show order. We also place ads of our dancers in the programs. Ads can

be sold to friends, family members, businesses, etc. The ad generally is set-up with a picture of the student and some

type of message such as: Good Luck on Your Recital, we love you! Love your family!

• DVDs - High Quality DVDs of the recital, produced by Post House Productions, can be purchased online. https://phpavsuperstore.com/product/2020-center-stage-dance-recital/

o Password to the site is 2020rockme

• Pictures –Dawg Prints photography will be shooting our photographs this year. We have pictures on 1-day (unlike

other studios) so that we do NOT take away from your class time. We will have the picture proofs at the studio at a

later date for you to view and be able to purchase packages. The packages are VERY REASONABLE and Dawg

Prints Photography is a HIGH-QUALITY photographer.

• Recital T-shirts – We are offering recital t-shirts to commemorate our recital for the year. The t-shirts cost $20 plus

tax and will be available for sale only by ordering by the deadline. All names of the students that are participating in

the production will be listed as a ‘Cast List’ for the back of our shirts. *Design on the order form

• Tickets – All tickets are $12, plus vendor fees, and will need to be bought online with our vendor Tututix. Tickets

will go on sale on April 1st at 8:00 a.m. Anyone that requires a seat is required to have a ticket. If you are bringing a

younger child that sits in a parent’s lap then no ticket is required/ Ages 5 and under are free. Tickets sold at the door will

be $15. www.tututix.com/CenterStageDanceAL

• Programs - Programs will be on sale by order, and only a few will be available the day of rehearsal and the day of

recital for $10.00. The program contains pictures of your child’s group dances, staff pictures, all ads, and show

orders for the recital. To be guaranteed a copy, place your order using the program order form. Or if you would

prefer a digital copy, the cost is $15.00 and will come on a thumb drive for you.

• Trophies – Trophies will be on sale this year for you to purchase. These are an optional expense and not required.

We do give the students a medal at the end of the show but some want a trophy. If you would like to order a trophy,

the day of the show. You will present these to your child/children.

Dance recital helpful hints:

The dance recital is the end-of-the season production that showcases all our dancers’ hard work for the entire season.

There will be costumes, glitter, lights, hairspray, make-up, and lots of excitement!!

When is the rehearsal? The rehearsal will be on the Friday before the dance recital. It will be held at the performing arts center. How long is the rehearsal? We schedule certain times for your child’s dances. You just need to be there 15 minutes before your start time and must stay until your child’s dance/dances have been practiced on stage. After your child has practiced, you can leave. You are not required to stay. We attempt to keep these short so you and your child can go home and get some rest before the big day; but you are invited to stay and watch any other dances that you want. Is it a dress rehearsal? No, we do NOT have a dress rehearsal for the kids. You do not have to bring costumes or make-up for this day. And anyone can come and watch. What time do I need to arrive on recital day? You will need to have your child at the venue between 9:30 a.m. and 9:45 a.m. for the morning show and/or 1:30 p.m. and 1:45 p.m. for the afternoon show. You will enter at the side door and check your child in backstage. What are the armband things? We hand out armbands to the person that checks in the child for safety reasons. Your child’s name will be on the armband. When coming backstage, our workers are looking for the armbands to make sure that we don’t have strange people trying to come in. We want all our students to be safe. Therefore, we ask that only the person that will pick up the child after the show, check them in and go backstage to help change them (if needed). No dads or brothers are allowed in the dressing rooms, and we ask you to not take the whole family backstage to the dressing rooms because they get very crowded very quick! All armbands are color coded by group and dressing room. A staff member will come to the lobby after the show and take groups back to proceed with check-out by colors. Please wait for our staff member to meet you in the lobby. Please do not take children off the stage or from the backstage area without being checked out. How long does the recital generally last? The recital will move FAST! We work extremely hard to make it go as smooth as possible for everyone. The recital typically lasts around 2 to 2.5 hours. This year, we have split the performances into 2 different shows; therefore, the shows will move EVEN FASTER! There is no down time. We have music sets in between dances and intermission music and video. Do I need to stay for the whole recital? We ask everyone to stay for the entire show. At the end of the show, we do a final curtain call for all of our dancers. We bring them on stage to recognize them for all their hard work. They take a final bow, and they are given a medal from the studio for a keepsake to commemorate the event. Do the students have to stay backstage the whole show? Yes, we require all students to stay backstage during the show. No students will be allowed to leave the backstage area until AFTER the show has ended. Will you have entertainment for the small kids? The performing arts center has televisions in all the dressing rooms that will play the show as it is happening! So, your child can see and hear the entire recital from backstage. Most of the kids LOVE being able to see what is going on onstage! We try to bring a few little coloring activities and things for the children to enjoy; but you are welcome to bring something as well.

Page 6: Recital Information Packet - Center Stage Dance Studio€¦ · Recital Information Packet We have attempted to combine all of our information on the end-of-the-season recital in order

Can I come backstage to help my child change? ABSOLUTELY!!! But, we will have people to help backstage so you don’t have to come backstage! Just make sure that you have your armband on, if you do. Also be courteous to the dancers on stage and the audience members and try to refrain from walking around while a dance is on stage. Does my dancer need to wear make-up on stage? Yes, we do recommend that the dancers wear some make-up on stage, especially blush, mascara, and some lipstick. The lights are very bright and can completely wash out the dancers so the dancer’s faces are hard to see. Who will watch the children in the dressing rooms? We will have workers plus Center Stage Staff backstage to help watch the kids in the dressing rooms. Can we take pictures at recital? ABSOLUTELY!! You can take pictures but for safety reasons you can’t use flash photography. The lights are already incredibly bright on stage and a sudden flash can blind a dancer. Please don’t use the flash on your camera. There will be a professional photographer at the recital! She will edit the pictures and post them online for you to view and purchase as you want. Dawg Prints Photography is our photographer this year. Or if you get any good shots please tag us! Our Facebook page is Center Stage Dance Studio. Can we record the recital? No, unfortunately you cannot. Due to privacy and licensing reasons we don’t allow the recital to be recorded. The choreography and music are all licensed and we must pay licensing fees. We do, however, offer high-quality DVD’s through a vendor if you would like one. Can we buy programs, DVD’s, and tickets the day of recital? ABSOLUTELY! These things are already on sale but they will be available even on the day of recital but in limited quantities. The only things that have a deadline are the recital t-shirts, ads, programs, stars, and flowers. But, if you want to be guaranteed these things, place your order early. Is seating reserved? No, all the seats are general admission seats. We will open the doors 30 minutes before the show begins. Can my child wear earrings? Absolutely! We request just small studs though and nothing that dangles. Can I paint their fingernails? Only clear fingernail polish or none is allowed. Do they have to wear tights? If it is part of their costume, then yes, they need to wear them. Make sure that with our little ladies that we are careful to not let them wear underwear under their costumes or that underwear is not showing. How do I style my child’s hair? Be sure to ask your child’s class teacher for their preference. But general rule of thumb is pulled back away from the face in a bun or ponytail. Do I need to label my child’s shoes and costumes? YES! Be sure to wipe your child’s shoes off and put their name in the arch of their shoe or on a tag somewhere so that they can be identified. Also, label the tag of your child’s costumes and costume PARTS (extra skirts, etc.). Please bring them the garment bag the costume came in and/ or bring your child’s dance bag to help keep up with their things but be sure that everything is labelled.

Page 7: Recital Information Packet - Center Stage Dance Studio€¦ · Recital Information Packet We have attempted to combine all of our information on the end-of-the-season recital in order

After the show is over when and where do we pick up my child? You will meet us in the lobby. We will have staff meet you in the lobby with color cards of each group. If you armband matches the card, you will then proceed to the dressing room to check out your child. You can then come and take pictures on stage or in the lobby. Just make sure that one of our staff members checks your child out before your child leaves the dressing room area. Where do we park? You will park in the school’s parking lot closest to the Performing Arts Center. If you enter from Main Street, you will enter on the side of the school closest to the Performing Arts Center. Are there dance classes this summer? Yes! We have 1 session available that will be 6 weeks (starts June 15 – July 23rd), and we also have camps available!! You can also purchase a class card and ‘drop-in’ to classes as you want! How do I sign-up for next season? We are already signing up now for our next season that begins in August! Sign-up as soon as possible to reserve your spot! We truly hope that you have enjoyed your experience with us and that your child continues with us this summer and next season. We have truly enjoyed being able to teach your child!! Thank you so much for the opportunity.

• In all ballet classes your dancer will have a headshot and a full body shot. In all other classes there will be just a full body shot unless you need more for multiple ads. If you do not take Ballet, let the photographer know to take a headshot.

• The limit on how many photos you may use in a specific size ad, is stated on the actual ad form.

• If you purchase an ad, you must also purchase the proof of the picture that we are using for the ad.

What are Ads for the Program?

We have a beautiful color souvenir “yearbook” program printed each year for the recital. All class photos are included in the

program free of charge. If you would like for your child’s individual photo(s) to appear in the book as well, you may purchase an ad

displaying their photo(s). You may also sell an ad to a friend, family member, or a business; which will include your child’s picture in

addition to the business details. For information, please see the enclosed Ad form. Please be sure to turn your ads in soon! We will

need to know a count for program pages needed.

Please make sure that we have your current email address on file at the studio. We communicate directly through email a lot of

time and it is imperative that we have your email address. Also, please make sure that you add [email protected] to

your contacts. This is our email address and can be used to contact us directly. We are also on Facebook as Center Stage Dance

Studio.
