RECITAL WEEKEND, COSTUMES & BACKSTAGE MOMS

Videotaping is Strictly Prohibited for ALL Recital Shows

Aimee’s Premier Dance hires a videographer to record the show and this video will be available for purchase

at a reasonable cost. Order forms for recital videos are attached in this packet. Please Note: Parents and

Guardians may videotape and/or photograph their children at DRESS REHEARSAL ONLY. However, there

will be no videotaping with cell phones, cameras or video cameras permitted at the recitals. Using a

device to videotape is very distracting to the dancers and to the audience around you. You will be asked to

stop videotaping and to take any cameras back to your car.

Recital Weekend Rules

Students must either remain in their assigned dressing room or in the auditorium during the shows. Students

are not permitted to roam around and must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Students, parents,

siblings and friends are not permitted to hang out in the hallway by the dressing rooms. Please note, we will

not tolerate yelling, loud talking or running in the hallway and inside the dressing rooms. All parents and

students are expected to respect Aimee’s Premier Dance rules, policies, staff & volunteers. If a student is out

of the dressing room whether it is to watch the show, leave the high school or to get something to eat, their

costume must be completely covered! No one is to ever see a costume except for when you are on stage/in

the backstage area.

Any student who is watching the show:

• MUST cover their costume whenever they leave the dressing room. A recital tee or jacket is a great

way to cover up.

• MUST be back in their assigned dressing room at the beginning of their Act. (if a dancer does not

dance until after intermission, they are welcome to watch the first half of the show in an open seat in

the auditorium)

• Dancers DO NOT need a ticket but must sit in open seats in the rear of the auditorium.

• Please only enter and exit between dances as a courtesy to onstage dancers and other audience

members.

• A female parent or female guardian is needed to pick up your child from the dressing room.

o Preschool dancers will need to be picked up after intermission.

o We encourage dancers and parents to stay and watch the entire show and participate in the

curtain call (final bow) at the end of the show.

• All dancers must be accompanied by a parent or volunteer at all times.

Costume Care Your child’s name or initials should be placed inside his/her: costume, shoes, accessories, and

tights. Place costumes in a garment bag with your child’s name on the outside. Accessories should remain the

in the clear plastic bag provided with your costume.

Page 5: This Little l. 2019 Recital Information...This Little l. In this packet is IMPORTANT recital information and guidelines for: • PICTURE DAY: May 31 • DRESS REHEARSAL: May 31 and

Other Costume Rules

NO underwear (tights will act as underwear), jewelry (earrings, body piercings, bracelets, etc) or nail polish is

to be worn on picture day, at dress rehearsal or at the recital shows. These items must be removed for

pictures and when performing on stage. The only exception is rhinestone earrings. Dancers may wear pea

sized crystal rhinestone earrings. COSTUMES ARE NOT TO BE WORN TO AND FROM THE AUDITORIUM.

Dancers must change in and out of their costumes in their assigned dressing rooms.

Recital Shoes

Required shoes for the recital must be worn every week to class. This way the students are used to the shoes

they are performing in and will have worn them in for comfort. All shoes must be clean and in good condition

by dress rehearsal. If your daughter/son needs new shoes, please contact Aimee BEFORE MAY 1ST to order

or get a coupon for the local dance shops. *Specific brands are important. Dancers must have appropriate

shoes from a dance shop (Dancewares Inc. or Bobby’s Dancewear), dance website

(discountdancesupply.com) or Aimee’s Premier Dance. Wal-mart, Target and Payless dance shoes are not

suitable for recital.

Recital Hair & Makeup

Uniform hairstyles and makeup are required. Each class will receive a card with their costume with a full

description on how hair is to be worn and the color makeup to wear for pictures, dress rehearsal and the

shows. All dancers who are in costume and onstage must wear makeup. Think of it as part of the costume.

Makeup Requirements Preschool Pink Blush, Raspberry Colored Lipstick, Black Mascara, Black Eyeliner (optional)

Level I & II Pink Blush, Raspberry Colored Lipstick, Black Mascara, Black Eyeliner (top and bottom of eyelid)

Level III Pink Blush, Raspberry Colored Lipstick, Black Mascara, Black Eyeliner (top and bottom of eyelid), Nude Eyeshadow, Foundation/Powder (optional), False Eyelashes (optional)

apply stage makeup and do a ballet bun. Class is FREE but sign up is required. Please see the lobby bulletin

board to register. Class times are: SUNDAY MAY 5TH AT 4:00 PM AND SUNDAY MAY 19TH AT 4:00 PM

Dressing Room Etiquette

Students must respect other students’ space and property in the dressing rooms. Many students will spend

more time in the dressing room than onstage or in the auditorium, so please do your best to keep them

organized and clean. No food or drink is allowed in the dressing rooms, except for bottled water. GIRLS -

PLEASE DO NOT USE THE BATHROOMS IN THE HALLWAYS TO CHANGE IN TO YOUR COSTUME – YOU

ARE TO USE THE DRESSING ROOM OR LOCKER ROOM ONLY. Please make sure to pick up trash, bobby

pins and any other items in your area before leaving. Boys will have their own dressing area.

Page 6: This Little l. 2019 Recital Information...This Little l. In this packet is IMPORTANT recital information and guidelines for: • PICTURE DAY: May 31 • DRESS REHEARSAL: May 31 and

Backstage Parents

Volunteer parents are needed for each class (Preschool through Level III) to supervise the students of their

child’s class. You will be with the class and will be able to watch your child’s class from the side of the stage.

You DO NOT NEED A TICKET FOR THE DAY YOU VOLUNTEER. Backstage parents must ensure that each

child in their care is safe and accounted for. They are responsible for making sure that each child in the class

has the costume on correctly, has the proper accessories, shoes, correct hair & makeup, along with bringing

the class backstage at the appropriate time. They are also responsible for seeing that all students return to

their appointed dressing room after their performance and stay with them until their specified dismissal. To

sign up to volunteer to be a Backstage Mom, please see the studio bulletin board. Volunteers will receive a

FREE recital t-shirt to wear during the show. This makes it easy for dancers to know who to ask for help.

PLEASE SIGN UP BY MAY 1ST. Thank you in advance for your help!

Quick Costume Changes

Many dancers will be performing in several different routines in this year’s show; however, a few of you may

have quick costume changes. Less than 3 numbers between routines are considered a quick costume change.

With proper organization and planning, quick costume changes can run smoothly. Please see Aimee if your

daughter has a quick costume change so we can give you instructions on where and how to make your quick

change run smooth.

Finale & Curtain Call

• If your dancer is participating in the finale number, they will need to be dressed and in their dressing

rooms 5 numbers before the dance.

• A curtain call aka final bow, will take place after the finale dance. All dancers who would like to

participate in the curtain call will need to remain in their costumes and be in their dressing rooms 5

numbers before the finale.

• Dancers will return to their dressing rooms for parent pick up.

Planning Ahead

The recital isn’t a one-day activity. Gather all costumes, accessories, shoes & makeup several days in advance

so you’ll know if something is missing or isn’t correct. Make a checklist of your child’s routines numbers,

listing their costumes, tights, shoes, and any accessories and refer to it to make sure you have all your

supplies before dress rehearsal.

• Bring at least one extra pair of tights.

• Extra hair gel, hairnets, bobby pins and hairspray.

• Other handy extras include:

o Baby wipes/Shout wipes (to fix makeup mistakes or wash hands)

o Safety Pins (For repairs)

o Clear Nail Polish (to remove minor holes or runs in tights when there isn’t time to change

them)

o Nail Polish Remover (in case you forgot to take it off already)

Any questions, please contact the studio office at 402-440-8770 or [email protected].
