How SFSP Helped our Library….

“Lawrence County Public Library was able to schedule programs around our Summer Food Program this year. We scheduled programs at 11:00am, lunch from 12-1:30 then another program at 2pm. We did this Monday-Friday weekly. By including the Summer Food Program, we were able to do roughly 45 feeding programs serving around 1,200 meals with an attendance of 4,586 during June and July alone. These programs cost us nothing as meals were prepared and delivered to us. Outstanding and easy way to boost your summer stats not only with the food program itself but the increase in summer users coming to other programs scheduled around feeding time.”

In 2016, Kentucky lead the nation in the percentage increase of meals served!

Public Library sites are growing with us!

The number of public libraries that are SFSP sites increased by 25% from 2015 to 2017!

75 Public Libraries were SFSP sites in 2018---thank you!

We have a long way to go.

In Kentucky, approximately only 12% of students who qualify for free and reduced meals are participating in the Summer Food Service Program.

7,310,943 free or reduced lunches were served in October of 2017 in KY.

But…

930,874 SFSP lunches were served in the month of June 2017 in KY.

Site Responsibilities

Provide space for meal.

Receive SFSP training from sponsor.

Supervise meals/ keep a Daily Meal Count.

Store food appropriately or receive food right before the meal.

Keep site clean and sanitary.

Other Ways We Can Work Together

Partner with an existing site to provide enrichment activities for children and youth.

Have the bookmobile make visits to sites bringing the library to kids.
