The original 3726 m2 school was constructed in 1992. Two portable classrooms containing 216 sq. M were added in 2006. The school is on one level with basement mechanical room and a mezzanine level mechanical room. The school including portable classrooms contains a kindergarten, 15 classrooms, a computer room, a library, agymnasium, administration and ancillary support spaces. At the time of the site visit there were 380 enrolled students.
General Summary:
Structural Summary:The 1991 building foundations consist of concrete grade beams and concrete piles. The roof structure is exposed glulamtruss with acoustical steel deck in the gymnasium. Floor structure is glulam beams and dimensional lumber. Walls arewood frame and concrete block. The structure of the original building is in good condition.
Envelope Summary:The exterior walls are clad with aggregate stucco panels with prefinished metal trim. Windows are aluminum framed,and main entry doors are steel and glass storefronts. Asphalt shingles on the roof were replaced in 2005. The buildingenvelope is in good condition.
Interior Summary:Floors consist of carpet, sheet vinyl, wood strip floor and mosaic tile with parquet flooring in the music room. Walls are painted drywall. Ceilings are painted drywall, acoustic tile and exposed glulam beams. Stained wood doors in metal frames, plastic laminated covered and stained millwork with plastic laminated countertops, visual display boards and louvered blinds over window units. The interior finishes are in good condition.
Mechanical Summary:Ventilation system consist of five air handling units which distribute the air through low velocity ductwork located incrawl space and ceiling space. Heating is provided by two gas fired boilers to unit heaters, force flow heaters, heating coils and re-heat coils locatedthroughout the building. Domestic hot water system consists of one gas fired domestic water heater and one hot water recirculation pump.Conventional plumbing fixtures. In 2006 AC system was added to serve Library and common areas. Pneumatic and DDC controls. Water, gas and sewer from Town of Drayton Valley services.
Electrical Summary:The facility was originally built in 1992 and since than there is no addition or modernization. The main electrical serviceis 120/208V, 3-phase, 4-wire and rated 1200A; The service is underground fed from a pad mounted transformer. The fluorescent fixtures were retro fitted to T-8 lamp fluorescent with electronics ballasts. Metal Halide fixtures wereinstalled in gym area and main foyer areas. All fire alarm, intrusion, telephone and Public address and Music systems meet current facility requirements. The overall rating for the facility shall be "Good"

On 20 September 2011, Vic Maybroda of Architectural & Engineering Group Inc. Supported by Slavek Strzelczyk of baczEngineering Ltd. And Erol Seymen of Acuity Engineering & Consulting Services Ltd. Accompanied by Mr. Mike Lundstromof the Wild Rose School Division undertook an onsite review of the Aurora School. The original school was constructed in 1991 of 4038 sq. M with two portable classrooms added in 2006 of 216 sq. M.
