PETER LUTHERANCHURCH Pastor Jonathan Aicken Phone 403-742-3211 [email protected] www.stpeterstettler.ca A Word from Pastor Jonathan St. Peter Reader Our Bible study group is just wrapping up a month in the book of Philippians. Philippians is a favourite book for many Christians — it glows with Paul’s warm love & affection for a church that has supported him through thick & thin, and it is filled with many “Hall of Fame” Bible verses: “And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.” —1:6 “For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.” —1:21 “Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice.” —4:4 “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard hearts and your minds In Christ Jesus.” —4:6-7 “I can do all things through him who strengthens me.” —4:13 One of the phrases that stuck out to me as we read the final chapter is the promise, “The Lord is near” (4:5). It’s a phrase that can mean either physically close by, or time-wise near at hand. It’s comforting to know that while we (still) cannot gather in proximity as a church, even when we are apart, Jesus is near to us in both time and space. And this helps with my frustration, anxiety, and general grumpiness about the way things are. God’s peace to you all in this time. Jesus is near at hand! Pastor Jonny

A Word from Pastor Jonathan

St. Peter Reader

Our Bible study group is just wrapping up a month in the book of Philippians.

Philippians is a favourite book for many Christians — it glows with Paul’s warm love &

affection for a church that has supported him through thick & thin, and it is filled with

many “Hall of Fame” Bible verses:

“And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion

at the day of Jesus Christ.” —1:6

“For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.” —1:21

“Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice.” —4:4

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with

thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of

God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard

hearts and your minds In Christ Jesus.” —4:6-7

“I can do all things through him who strengthens me.” —4:13

One of the phrases that stuck out to me as we read the final

chapter is the promise, “The Lord is near” (4:5). It’s a phrase

that can mean either physically close by, or time-wise

near at hand. It’s comforting to know that while

we (still) cannot gather in proximity as a church,

even when we are apart,

Jesus is near to us in

both time and space.

And this helps with my frustration, anxiety, and general

grumpiness about the way things are.

God’s peace to you all in this time. Jesus is near at hand!
