Conservation Field Trip: Chattahoochee Fall Line | Tuesday, May 16, 2017
You and a guest are invited to join Brant Slay, Chattahoochee Fall Line Conservation Manager, for a day trip on the Chattahoochee Fall Line near Columbus, Georgia. The Fall Line is Georgia’s ancient shoreline and home to many threatened and endangered species including the red-cockaded woodpecker, gopher tortoise, gopher frogs, sweet pitcher plants and parrot pitcher plants. Explore the history of longleaf pine, the diversity of species, and their dependence on fire. Also, learn how a partnership between The Nature Conservancy and the Army at Fort Benning has provided conservation protection for this portion of the western Fall Line.

Conservation Field Trip: Wassaw Island | June or July 2017 (Wewillassistincoordinatingadatethatworksforyouandthescientists)
You and a guest are invited to join our Director of Marine and Freshwater Conservation, Christi Lambert, and scientists from the Caretta Research Project to experience sea turtle nesting along Georgia’s coast—an “all-nighter” like you’ve never experienced. You will be a member of the research team patrolling six miles of beach on Wassaw Island looking for turtles that have emerged from the ocean to lay their eggs. Get hands-on experience helping to measure, tag and collect egg samples. The excitement starts at about 10 pm and goes until dawn.

Conservation Field Trip: Camp Meeting Rock Preserve Saturday, May 6, 2017
You and a guest are invited to join Director of Stewardship and lichenologist, Malcolm Hodges, for an exclusive ecological tour of The Nature Conservancy’s Camp Meeting Rock Preserve near Newnan, Georgia, which is currently closed to the public for intensive restoration and ongoing research. This unique preserve features 110 acres of granite flatrock and is home to several rare plant species such as the endangered black-spored quillwort, the rare longleaf flower, the stonecrop plant, and the state-threatened dwarf granite stonecrop.

Conservation Field Trip: Marshall Forest | Tuesday, May 9, 2017
You and a guest are invited to join Katie Owens, Coosa River Basin Program Director, on a guided hike through Marshall Forest near Rome, Georgia. This 301-acre preserve is one of the last stands of old-growth pine-hardwood forest in northwest Georgia. Explore over 300 species of plants and animals that call Marshall Forest home. Designated by the U.S. Department of the Interior as the first National Natural Landmark in Georgia, Marshall Forest also features the interpretive Big Pine Braille Trail.
