Statement on the Worlds Anti-Drugs Day

    26 June 2011

Restoration Council of the Shan State (RCSS), with the policy of anti-narcotic drugs, has been

involved in the process of narcotic drugs eradication for over 11 years now. To welcome the

Worlds Anti-Drugs Day that falls on 26 June 2011, RCSS has implemented its anti-narcotic

drugs policy and the eradication of drugs at different places in 2010-2011. For example : On 28

February 2011,Shan State Army raided and seized a drug refinery run by Militia Unit of theBurmese Army at Lai Kha village, Wan Zit tract in Nam Zarn township of the Shan State. In the

four hours-fighting, many heroin, the chemical liquid, many assorted weapons and ammunitions

have been seized from the Militia Unit.

Because of the bad administration of the Burmese regime, people in the ethnic areas suffer from

the economic crisis and grow more poppies. The local Burmese army covertly collects taxes

from the growing of poppies, the production and the trading of opium and thus the trading of

narcotic drugs in Thailand, in Laos and in China increases more. The people and younger ethnic

generation also use more narcotic drugs at different levels. This is the reason why RCSS is

deeply concerned about the problem of narcotic drugs that occurs in the ethnic areas in the Unionof Burma and in neighboring countries.

In order to stop the danger of narcotic drugs spreading from the Golden Triangle to other

countries, RCSS requests and welcomes the international anti-narcotic drugs organizations to

investigate the root causes of the narcotic drug problem and eradicate the narcotic drugs. In

addition, RCSS obviously offers to cooperate with these organizations in the narcotic drugs

    eradication process at all times.

To be able to cooperate with the international anti-narcotic drugs organizations in the process of

narcotic drugs eradication in the ethnic areas, RCSS requests that the Burmese Army does not

use forces in dealing with the ethnic groups as the present and to solve the political problems of

    the country through political means.
