METRO TRAINING ACADEMY

Building and maintaining top class skills and capability is a top priority for the global railway industry.

And this is the very reason for the establishment of the Metro Academy.

PRESTIGE

With access to unrivalled knowledge of Melbourne’s metropolitan railway and backed by Hong Kong’s MTR which is arguably the best engineered railway in the world, the Metro Academy offers Australia’s railway workers and contractors access to superior training opportunities.

VARIED CURRICULUM

Training courses have been designed for contractors and rail workers to achieve the skill levels needed to unlock the commercial opportunities currently being presented on railways in Australia and abroad.

RELEVANCE

Each training program is created to include a combination of theoretical, interactive and hands-on learning which ensures comprehensive skills and knowledge.

RAIL EXPERTISE

All Metro Academy trainers have technical and facilitation expertise to ensure you get the most from your training experience.

LOCATION

With training facilities conveniently located at Flinders Street Station and E-Gate in West Melbourne, participants have ready access to the Metro’s railway network and essential plant and equipment, which allows for real-time practical experience.

To accommodate the rigours of project schedules and varied shift patterns, training can be delivered at times and locations to suit you in either a classroom or e-learning environment.

As a Registered Training Organisation delivering both nationally recognised units of competence and purpose built non-accredited training programs, the Metro Academy is well positioned to provide the industry with fit for purpose training solutions.

Your Metro Academy experience can start today. Call us and discover a new level of excellence in training.

RAIL INDUSTRY WORKER CARD

The Rail Industry Worker program is owned and endorsed by the Australasian Railway Association (ARA) on behalf of its members to provide a single national competency management system for those working in rail.

As of 01 July 2013 all contractors identified in Metro’s competency matrices, located on the Metro Academy website (www.metrotrains.com.au/academy) who intend carrying out rail safety work for Metro, or on behalf of Metro’s contractors, need to possess a RIW Card.

A valid Rail Industry Worker Card is now a required prerequisite for all Metro Academy Rail Infrastructure courses.

ADDITIONAL OPTION

Metro Academy can facilitate the delivery of a confidential pre and

post course analysis of the participants’ leadership style using the

Life Styles Inventory™ (LSI) tool. The results provide a circumplex

view of the leaders style (describing the extent in which Constructive,

Passive / Defensive and Aggressive / Defensive behaviours are used).

It provides for self-description (LSI 1) and feedback from others

(LSI 2) and is benchmarked against about 10,000 other leaders from

Australian businesses.

Understanding behaviour of people at work commences with an understanding of the hardwired instincts that come as part of the package of being human. Once we understand the 9 instincts of humans we can then make intelligent choices about our actions as leaders and in the design of our leadership practices. Without the insight into instincts we repeat predictable mistakes that are avoidable if we understand hardwired behaviour.

A unique element of the program is the association with the Jane Goodall Institute, with participants learning about leadership within the chimpanzee community and applying those learnings to the hierarchy at the workplace.

The topics covered:

■ Common organisational issues that are explained and solutions given include:

■ Silos, matrix and organisation structures

■ The role of leaders of human groups

■ Overcoming the derailers of change

■ Overcoming the common failures of performance systems

■ Using the grapevine productively

■ Using hierarchy effectively

■ Providing negative feedback

■ Enhancing persuasion skills.
