Limitations of the Sha Tin Racecourse

• Sha Tin Racecourse is the home of the Hong Kong Jockey Club’s stabling,

training and racing facilities

• Commenced operations in 1978 and was designed to accommodate up to

900 horses

• Today, we are stretched to over 1,200 horses as the number of races has

increased to 770 per year

• Limited land space has constrained the further

expansion of the horse population, number of

races and introduction of new training facilities

• The Jockey Club had been looking at different

options in Hong Kong but this has proved

difficult

2010 Asian Games - Conghua

• HKJC was asked by the Guangzhou 2010 Asian Games Organising Committee to support the Equestrian Competition at Conghua

• Approved by the State Council, a partnership was formed to support the Asian Games and establish a Thoroughbred Training Centre as legacy
