Circularbowings–clockwiseorcounter-clockwisebowingpatternsperslurredpassage.Bowpositionandspeedofthecyclemayalsobeindicated.*-Measure1:Bowinaclockwisespiralmotionbeginningatthetip,withintheSulPontrange.Beginthegesturewithtightermotions,expanding/lengtheningthestrokestiptofrog.Frominnerspiralgesturetoouter,shouldtakeapprox.20secMeasure2:Positionadouble-stoponIIandIstrings,wheretheuppernoteis¼flat.Thiscanbeachievedbyslightlyanglingthestop.CreateasimilarartificialharmonicstopaM4above,andundulatetremolobetweenthetwostartingslowandspeedingupbytheendofthemeasure(openstringtonesmaysound).Towardtheendofthemeasure,graduallyslideup1or2steps.Measure3:DepresstheIIIstringabout2or3inchawayfromthebridgesothatIV,III,andIIstringsarelevel.Bowallthreestringsoccasionallywhilequivering/vibratotheIIIstring.Measure4:ORD.Stutterspiccato.withweightedstaccatodrops.Measure5:Silence(yourowntime).Perhapsstareatthefloor.Measure6:WoodMute–freebowMeasure7:Using left hand, pinch the stick of the bow to help guide it, bow extremely slow (with light pressure) so as to produce ‘pops’. After 20 seconds, slightly change degrees of SP, bow angle and twist, and pressure. Entire minute should require only a single bow length. Measure11:Whilestoppingharmonicdouble-stopswiththethumb,bowinacircularmotionasindicated,usingthe1st,2nd,and3rd,fingersofthel.h.todrumontothecenter-to-tipendofthebow.Measure12:BowingIV,III,andII,butliftingIVstringnearG2positionwiththelefthandpointerfinger(hookingitunderneaththestring),sothatallthreestringsarelevelandinline.Bowatthatplace.(as if you are hunting a deer behind you or inside of you) Measure13:OnstringsIIIandII,slowlydepressandun-depressthestringsatthehighestpositionpossiblebeyondthefingerboardwhilebowinginaslightSulPontposition.In4gestures,alternatewhichstringgetsdepressedmore.Thebowingshouldbeshakybutstiff,stuttering.Perhapswithshortbowstrokes.Measure14:Silence(sharedwiththeaudience).Stareintotheaudience.Measure15:SameasMeasure7,butbowingIVandIsimultaneously,underneaththestrings.MoltoST.Bowstickispressingupagainstthebuttendofthefingerboard,bowhairmayevenberidingonthetopofthefingerboard.Measure16:Rapidlytapharmonicquadruple-stops.BowingshouldalternatebetweenangledST–to-SPbowstrokesandSP–to-STbowstrokes,arpeggiatedacrossall4strings.Measure17:sim.Measure18:PlaywithinarangeofDb3andD3.Pitchnotatedgraphicallyabove.
