The Following is from a Previous Post

This is the New MOP used on the Latest San III

"River Pearl". A new material never before used by Invicta and only used by a handful of other brands in

the world.

This fresh water mother of pearl comes from a large lake near the city of Shanghai in the Yangtze Delta

Plain called Taihu or "Grand Lake". It is the 3rd largest lake of the 5 freshwater lakes that China is known

for. The cultivation of this material from the Taihu Lake is strictly controlled with a quota and is heavily

supervised. This assures a high level of eco and habitat friendliness. Please keep in mind that it takes a

total of 7 years before this material can be harvested and start the special and delicate process of

turning them into an Invicta dial. This material is unique in tone, providing a more of a muted marble

like finish and are much more unique than "standard" mother of pearl. While the volume of material

harvested is controlled, Invicta has the sorting/choice priority where we chose only the best in texture,

color, size and uniformity. Additionally, our strict QC over this process ensures that there is no

distortion, impurities, cracks, tears or any other signs of distress.

To me, anytime Invicta 'changes' something, it usually is in favor for cheaper production (think Tritnite,

FlameFusion crystal).

I have 2 MOPs (excursion and venom) and I don't really care for MOP's anymore. I think it's more of a

selling/marketing hype than the real deal. I know the orient all depends on the cuts you get. Both my

MOPs don't have enough orient to really 'wow' me. Of course, when they air these at the Shop or stock

pics, the dials are possibly carefully picked out to demonstrate the wow factor. Doesn't mean you'll get

the same orient on every watch. Hence it's a gamble.

The recent SANIII with the 'new' MOP sold for $1XX. How much do you think the mop cost Invicta to

make/source? Food for thought ;-).

In standard pearls... Salt water pearls are usually far more expensive than the equivalent in fresh water

pearls.... And definintely more expensive then the "Shell" pearls that are made with powdered pearl.

(Go to EBAY and price out pearls... see for yourself).

That being said.... watch dials may be totally different. Just consider the diameters needed... Anyones

guess is good as mine here.

I personally do not see the need for Invicta to change their MOP source- it must be that cost benefits

are being sought as indicated. The black MOP in my SAN III 2.4 Dragon CE is the best that I have ever

seen for orient and colors.

Invicta is simply offering a new version of mother of pearl with less orient for the many of us that like

the look but find too much orient to be a little feminine or dainty for our taste, especially in a sport

watch .Just as Invicta has offered a series of perforated dials.poly and silicone straps ,all which have

been critized by those who like to remain on the side of traditional mainstream design. With 1500

models out there,Invicta is offering for the masses, and not catering to just a select customer base.

Mother of pearl has traditionally been offered in more womans jewelry such as broaches, pendants

,bracelets and necklaces over the last hundred years.I see no reason what so ever for someone not

being able to have this dial material in other watches besides that of a dress style if they so choose. And

I'm certainly not suggesting that anyone who happens to like this material is wrong for doing so ,or is

leaning toward the feminine side. However there are many men who do not prefer wearing traditional

MOP outside of a dress watch scenario. And for this reason alone the new fresh water MOP is desirable

for those of us not looking for a lot of pink, turquoise.and lavender radiant out from the dial on our time

pieces. Why some view another dial material offering being made available ,as just another ( Invicta's

cutting corners ) issue is just ludicrous. But now that Invicta has introduced this new fresh water

MOP,both you and I can enjoy Mop dials in our watches .And isn't that how it should be ?

I beleave you are correct. However some may like it. No question they have been cutting corners as you

review their collections, you may see the same watch with 3 differnent movements on the same strap

or braclet.

SAS was one and so is the Reserve Excursion!

I am one of them. I don't like bling, and I don't like too much orient.

Now, let's wait and see what these new fresh water MOP look like.

They will start arriving tomorrow, mine is coming on 9th, and I am sure, we'll have tons of new opinions

on them

Again - I just hope to God that they are not some cheap plastic looking.

24 hrs more and pics with first impressions will start getting in.

I can't wait to see that.

I highly doubt that will be the case.Watching Shop long enough will reveal the obvious selling

techniques applied by the host, such as a push for the Gold tone when the Silver tone is selling down.

etc etc.I chalked that up to the host doing their job.But now to go on record and emphasize the fact

that the camers cannot capture what they are seeing in person is putting their reputation on the line.I

don't believe Jim or Mike are about to take that step hastily.

Hype or no hype, if it is something I like, I'll get it. MOPs looks great on a lot of watches. Got the brown,

black, platinum, and white MOP watches. It's good for the collection. Nothing to do with anyone's

Page 19: Question about Invicta's MOP

inclination, if it's pleasing to the eye, get it. Also, there's always some story behind the materials used to

sell these watches and if it sounds great, share it. If they can produce something that the market will

respond to, go for it!

I just got the silvertone SANIII with the freshwater MOP. From a distance of a foot away, the dial looks

flat grey/white -- looking closer I only see striations of grey to white. This MOP orient is monochromatic

(meaning one color). It's not fancy and the striations aren't too exciting. I looks elegant and I like that a

lot. I wouldn't have put as much emphasis on this MOP in the presentations other then to say that it is a

very subtle use of a natural material in a dial.

But I stress this is MY watch and other peoples' MOP watch may look different.

Tai Hu lake in China produces some of the more finer pearl in China. I believe there are 4 production

lakes where pearls are heavily regulated. Of course, the orient on a watch dial might look and feel

different than on other jewelry.

I'd checked my Ma's pearl strand and compared between her Mikimoto and the Tai Hu ones, Shoot,

can't tell the difference....LOL>.....

I stand corrected. It's nothing more than another 'cost-cutting' step for Invicta with the typical hype fed

to the public to continue their sales. Watch Shop presentations long enough and you'll start to see the

'marketing ploy' they use to push the sales. But it's another business similar to car sales so don't blame

them. It's all about profit in the end.

If one reads the FlameFusion sticky and Invicta's take on Tritnite, then they are the best materials ever

produced in horology/industry. Now sing the new MOP with the same tune and you have people

jumping head over heels to own one.

Ah...The wonderful world of marketing .
