Dear Parents and Carers, Welcome to our latest newsletter. The term is going by so quickly – Christmas will be here before you know it. There are only 32 days to go. What a scary thought, so much to do and so little time! Classes for 2018 are currently being organised, getting ready for our Orientation Day on Friday 15th December. So far we have had two successful Prep Orientation sessions with our final one on next Tuesday 28th November beginning at 9:15am in the hall. On this day families will know which teacher their child will have and the children in their class next year. Reminder

When children arrive at school in the morning, they must go to the sails area and wait for teachers to collect them. No children are allowed to play on the playground equipment either before OR after school. End of Year & Beginning of Next Year Arrangements

So families can make arrangements for holidays etc, I would like to confirm the following dates for the end of this year and beginning of next year:

School for all children concludes with an end of year mass at 9.15am on Wednesday 20 December, followed by a final Assembly at 1.00pm. All children will be dismissed at 1.30pm

Teachers return on Monday 29 January 2018

Tuesday 30 January will be a Pupil Free Day as staff will be working with Michael Ymer on Mathematics

Preps will begin 2018 on Thursday 1 February at 9.00am and finish at 1:00pm

Friday 2 February Preps will again go home at 1:00pm NB in our last newsletter the times were listed as 1:30pm but the Prep children will finish at 1:00pm on the first Thursday and Friday

Friday 2 February Children in Years 1 - 6 will begin 2018 at 9:00am and will be here for the full day and dismissed at 3:30pm Anne Price Acting Principal

End of Year Family Celebration

Following the success of last year’s End of Year Family Celebration, the event will once again be held, this time with the theme “Christmas Around the World”. The evening will begin around 5:30pm with a family picnic in the school grounds. You might like to bring a picnic or there will be food available for purchase. From approximately 7:00pm each of our year levels will be performing songs from a variety of countries, with each year level focusing on one country. Skoolbag

It is important that all parents have access to the (free) Skoolbag app in order to receive information and alerts from the school. Instructions on how to install this app are on QoP website under the ‘Parents’ menu. If you are having trouble installing the app, please let office staff know.

Please Note

To avoid disruption to classrooms, if children need to be collected early they should be picked up at the lunch break (at 1:30pm Monday or 1:40pm Tuesday to Friday). It is also very disruptive for classes and the office to be passing on messages to children in the afternoons. It would be appreciated if these interruptions could be kept to a minimum.

Please abide by the ‘no right turn’ sign at the carpark entry, when turning in from Everingham Road. Our neighbours have complained about parents causing traffic problems because of these illegal turns. Please be considerate and do the right thing to ensure the safety of our students and other drivers.

If you are able to help out on any day, please call the office 9369 2581 to advise. Even though the above roster looks ‘full’, Antoinette would still appreciate any extra help she can get. Many hands make light work! Thank you.

Thank you to Abby’s Pizza & Fish ‘n’ Chips

for their generosity and donation to

Grade 5 Leadership Day.

Dear Parents and Carers P&F GENERAL MEETING - ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING NEXT TUESDAY 28TH NOVEMBER AT 7PM IN THE STAFF ROOM The QOP P&F Annual General Meeting for 2017 is on Tuesday 28th November at 7pm in the Staff Room - it will be immediately followed by the eighth general meeting for 2017. All parents and carers are welcome and encouraged to attend. Refreshments will be available from shortly before and throughout the meeting, and we will do our best to be finished by 8:30pm.

At the AGM, the election of all Executive Committee positions for 2018 will take place. All positions are open for election and their descriptions can be found in the P&F Constitution, which is on P&F section of the school website. Please note that it is also possible for two people to "job share" a position, as was the case for the Secretary role this year. It would be great if all parents could seriously consider nominating him/herself as it is a great way to get involved in the school - to help out our children and help strengthen the community here at Queen of Peace.

The Agenda will be posted on the P&F section of the school website on Friday 24th November at: http://qopaltonameadows.catholic.edu.au/parents/#pfa

Information about the P&F AGM and the election of the Executive Committee (EC)

Nominations for all positions on the EC are now called for from QOP parents and carers. As per the P&F Constitution, all the elected members of the EC shall retire from office at the AGM, but shall be eligible for re-election or re-appointment as follows: • For EC members who have held a position for one year, they can re-nominate for the same position or any other position regardless of whether there are any other nominations for those positions. • For EC members who have held a position for two consecutive years, they can only nominate for that same position if there are no other nominations. They can, however, nominate for any other position regardless of whether there are any other nominations for that position. Please note: • Nominations can be forwarded prior to the AGM via [email protected] • Nominations must be seconded by an Ordinary Member at the meeting and accepted by the nominee • If there is one nominee for a position, that nominee will be appointed • For contested positions, an election will be held via secret ballot, and the outcome will be declared at the AGM. Only Ordinary Members (all QOP parents and carers) of the P&F are eligible to vote • The EC roles and their descriptions can be found in the Constitution, which can be downloaded from the P&F section on the school's website The AGM will commence at 7pm and include: • The reading of the minutes of the previous AGM, dealing with any actions arising from the previous AGM • The tabling of reports from the Principal, the President, the Treasurer, the Fundraising Officer, the Social and Pastoral Officer, the Grants Officer and the Gardens and Grounds Officer • The election of EC members (any new members will take office at the start of the next school year)

The eighth General Meeting will then commence around 7:30pm and may finish after the usual target time of 8:30pm.

QoP PARENTS DINNER THURSDAY 7th DECEMBER The last social event for QoP parents for 2017 is the end of year dinner, to be held at the Altona RSL. It's a chance to catch up with other parents and reminisce about the year that has been and look forward to an exciting year ahead in 2018. A CareMonkey app has been sent out with RSVP's due next Tuesday 28th November.

QOP WALK-A-THON - FINAL RESULTS At Monday's assembly, the winner of the walk-a-thon cup was announced. Well done to the GREEN house who had a combined total of 3,887 points after adding together the laps walked and 40 points for each sponsorship form returned. Red came second with 3,634 points, followed by Blue with 3,502 and Yellow with 2,868 points. Class 3B won a prize for having the highest percentage of students returning their sponsorship forms and money - well done! Once again, well done to all the students for their fabulous walking effort - the combined distance of all students walking was 2,673 km - enough to walk to Brisbane and then down to Sydney!

PARENTS AND CARERS SOCIAL EVENTS SURVEY Coming home soon via CareMonkey will be a survey asking for parents and carers thoughts and opinions regarding social events. We would really appreciate a few minutes of your time so that we can offer social events that resonate with the community.

CUPPA BEFORE ASSEMBLY ON MONDAY Don't forget there is a cuppa each Monday before Assembly from 2pm in the Hall Foyer.

Any questions or comments about any of the items listed in this newsletter can be emailed to [email protected]

Kind regards, Brendan Halloran (P&F President)
