From the Files of Fr. Jared: #UnsolvedMysteries

As you know, October is the month of the Holy Rosary! Last week we talked about all the saints who endorsed the rosary as a strong defense against evil! This week, let’s focus on the mys-teries! Some people may argue that Catholics have little to no depth of Scriptural knowledge. Well, I’d chal-lenge said persons with even the structure of our liturgies, always involving at least one reading of Scripture. The Mass itself usually is a compilation of Scripture citations, whether we recognize it or not! But even in addition to our liturgies is the great practice of the Rosary, whose mysteries are literally differ-ent important moments, important mysteries in the life of Christ and the Church. The Joyful, Sorrowful, and Glorious Mysteries were gifted from Our Lady to St. Dominic and have been prayed for centuries. The Luminous Mysteries were then added by Pope St. John Paul II in 2002. This gives a very rich spring from which to drink from the mys-tery of Christ Himself — Mary’s “yes,” His becoming Man, His ministry and preaching, His suffering and death, His glorious resurrection and the fulfillment of His promises.

These mysteries are the realities of our faith. They are the reason for hope, the reason for waking up in the morning, the reason for enduring in the midst of tre-mendous suffering, the reason we live for something greater than ourselves. But most of these mysteries are left unsolved in our own minds, in our own hearts. So may that be our focus this week — to dive into the mysteries of our Lord. But also, I encourage you to share your favorite mystery with the world! Which of these #UnsolvedMysteries is your favorite?

A Stewardship Moment: Twenty–Eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Learning to Let Go

Jesus of-fers a hard les-son re-garding wealth and pos-sessions in today’s Gospel. The rich man whom he encountered could not part with his possessions as a condition to becoming a disciple of Jesus. Good stewards realize that their possessions must not possess them, lest those pos-sessions block their relationship with the Lord.

To Consider: Would our response be the same as the rich man? Do we place our trust in our money and posses-sions instead of trusting in God’s generosity? Do we seek security in our possessions?

FOSTERING STEWARDSHIP In gratitude for God’s gifts of time, talent, and

treasure we gratefully acknowledge
