Thank you for your interest in PwC’s Management Development Programme (MDP).
We are the learning and education business of PwC operating across the Middle East and are part of a growing network of PwC Academies present in over 35 countries worldwide.
We have been developing our own people for over 100 years and it is this deep experience of helping professionals become business leaders that is embedded into all PwC’s Academy programmes. As a business ourselves, we recognise that our Management Development Programme must lead to improved performance and be a profitable investment of time and money.

Why PwC’s Management Development Programme
About PwC’s Management Development Programme Managers in today’s global and dynamic business environments face a distinct set of leadership challenges. As a manager, you are responsible for leading your business unit, for defining strategy, allocating resources, maintaining budgets, delivering seamless tactical execution, and motivating your team. In addition, you are required to imbibe and implement the vision of senior leadership, understand and support cross functional roles and contribute to the broader organisational goals. To be a successful manager, you must be proficient in handling both ‘up’ and ‘down’ channels of your organisations’ hierarchy.
PwC’s Management Development Programme (MDP) is a twelve day intensive programme that will help you progress to the next level of management in your organisation by developing your understanding of core management skills and helping you apply integrated strategic thinking to create value enhancing solutions. The MDP provides the competitive advantage you need to differentiate yourself in the marketplace.
What will I learn?PwC’s Management Development Programme covers the topics taught in leading global MBA programmes with a focus on practical examples and case studies. The programme comprises of six specially designed core modules carefully chosen to provide a systematic framework and clear structure for understanding organisations. In addition, you may attempt one of four optional modules suited to your specific needs in business. We have developed a unique mapping technique to link the modules and help you create a successful business strategy.
You will learn how to incorporate broader strategic considerations into your management decisions. You will gain a deeper understanding of how different business units function and of the interdependence between them. The programme will provide you the tools and insight to think strategically, enhance productivity, and engage in progressive leadership.
Who is it for?The Management Development Programme is suitable for you if you are an ambitious manager who aims to develop into a more strategic role in your organisation. Our programme is designed in a way that the core management principles and knowledge will apply to cross-functional roles, industries and sectors.
DurationPwC’s Management Development Programme includes twelve days of training (eighty hours) as open courses spread over a period of four months. These can also be tailored according to the requirements of corporate clients.
CertificateAt the end of the programme all participants will receive a certificate of completion from PwC.

I don’t could think I could have put my finger on exactly one thing PwC’s Academy team did that made a difference, however looking back, I realise not once did they sell the Programme to me, what they did was share what they believed in, they shared their stories and their dreams.
Throughout the Programme I learnt that business is not about any one thing in isolation, it is not just about the numbers, the strategies, the leaders, economics, politics etc., the list is endless. I learnt that when you bring that endless list together, there is a beauty and order in business, and crucially at the heart of it all, business is about people, it is about you and me and how we interpret and understand the world around us how we choose to interact, treat, respect and value each other.
I have not become an instant expert in all things business related, instead I have became hopeful in all things business related and hopeful in the possibilities for my own future and what I will do next. I now have the courage to put my hand up and say when I do not understand and add my voice to the debate. To me understanding is key and yes, businesses affect our lives, however what we must not forget is that our lives also affect businesses and that we are not just passive bystanders, each of us are integral to the ebb and flow of the business cycle. We have choices to participate, reciprocate with more than just our hard earned cash and that my ideas, your ideas, my opinions and your opinions count.

These introductory modules present an understanding of how businesses can be mapped through an outline of the main areas within all organisations. The business map is then used to introduce and (later) analyse in-depth competitive and strategic analysis through our three step process of Analysis (Position), Choice (Options for Growth) and Implementation. The modules outline the three levels of strategy, corporate, business and functional along with the objectives of each. The modules then delve into strategic positioning and whether an organisation’s position is appropriate given their competitive environment.
Strategies for growth and innovation in different environments are developed. One of the most important topics is the analysis of the critical success factors and key performance indicators that are used to gauge success.

Core module 3 LeadershipThis module examines the role of leadership and its impact within the organisation. The distinction between leadership and management is introduced along with the objectives of each. It also explores different types of leaders and leadership styles. From this, participants gain an understanding of what type of leader they are, or in the future can become. As a corollary, participants will also identify what skills they can improve to become a more effective leader.
It explores how leaders can play a constructive role in problem solving and what pitfalls to avoid. Apart from leadership, the module also addresses negotiation skills. Practical negotiation skills, both internally and with external clients, are presented.
On completion of this module, participants will:• Appreciate the differing opinions around
leadership and the different aspects that encompass leadership
• Understand the differences between the goals of management and leadership. The link between the two should also be understood
• Understand emotional intelligence and its importance in developing leadership capabilities

Core module 4 Management skillsThe aim of this module is to provide the basics of effective management. Motivation and communication are critical topics in this section. Methods for motivation and how to identify motivational drivers at an individual level are investigated. The module analyses different types of communication and their evolutions with technological progress. It also explores how different communication styles can be received (positively and negatively) and how to adapt communication style depending on the audience. The module covers the basics of time and stress management. Tools for planning, both short term and long term, are also examined. Practical examples will be used to guide participants throughout the module.
On completion of this module, participants will:• Understand the role and goals of management• Comprehend the necessity of time
management, obstacles to time management and how they can be overcome

Core module 5 Accounting and financial managementThe goal of this module is to provide participants with a basic understanding of accounting and financial management. Additionally, the module aims to help participants understand the role of these functions within the organisation. It presents an overview of financial statements and key financial statement ratios that are pivotal for decision making. It explores the nature and purpose of finance management along with an examination of the link between corporate strategy and financial objectives. It introduces the concepts of working capital management, liquidity, cash flows, and the different sources of capital. The session will also include an overview of budgeting and the basics of risk management.
On completion of this module, participants will:• Understand what financial strategy is and its

Optional module 1 Project management and business processesThis module provides an understanding of the principles and tools used for effectively managing projects and the operations of the organisation. Its aim is to not only demonstrate how an organisation manages its projects and operations but also how these decisions can create or destroy value. Specific attention will be given to the organisation’s value chain and the decisions surrounding it. It presents project management methodologies, the project life cycle and an understanding of the project environment. It will demonstrate how to plan and execute projects addressing key issues such as deadlines, resource management, reporting, monitoring, and quality control to ensure that key deliverables are met.

Optional module 2 Operational excellenceThe purpose of this module is to help define the framework for understanding operations, examine the value of operations in different organisations and explore topics like value stream mapping and supply chain to understand how to productivity can be improved. The module includes a practical overview of the core practices necessary to achieve operational excellence, and application of best practices to develop action plans for improving productivity in the supply chain and throughout the organisation. In addition this element of the programme covers the role of technology and metrics to achieve Operational Excellence whilst setting continuous goals to improve the processes, productivity and operations of an organisation.

Optional module 3 Marketing and selling the value proposition Learning how to differentiate a product or service in the market place and communicating this uniqueness powerfully forms the core of this module. The module starts by presenting participants with a brief overview of marketing theory and tools and applying these to real life examples. Further into the module, customer segmentation and different tools available to analyse competition, marketing tools and concepts such as CRMs, market positioning, and customer segmentation are addressed. The module also covers the essentials in designing and executing a marketing calendar. Participants will also learn how to design an effective strategy for business development, build significant demand for their products by creating compelling ‘customer value propositions’ and becoming more skilled at communicating with impact to the modern customer.

Optional module 4 Managing and motivating peopleThe goal of this module is to provide participants with essential skills and knowledge to manage and motivate people for higher performance. Being an effective leader involves understanding the team and managing internal relationships. Drawing on theoretical frameworks, best practice and the trainer’s experience, this course offers vital skills for understanding the team, communication, problem solving, delegation, leadership and motivation. The course also covers the importance of coaching which is essential for businesses to get the most out of their teams whilst being beneficial for anyone in a leadership position who works with challenging personalities. It also covers leveraging of employee core strengths and the advantages of effective delegation in an organisation.

Linking it all together
We strongly believe one of the key strengths of PwC’s Management Development Programme is the focus on the link between our modules to show the interdependence between all areas of the organisation. This module concentrates on the interdependence between the sessions presented in the programme. It will revisit the business map presented in Module 1 so participants can apply their new understanding of the firm to the pivotal skill of business mapping. The balanced scorecard will be presented to demonstrate how to evaluate the overall performance of an organisation. A final section on entrepreneurship will also be presented. This will be followed by a Harvard Business School case study that will incorporate the learning points from the programme. A personalised assessment of the case study will be provided to each participant together with guidance on suggested future development goals.
On completion of this module, participants will:• Understand the key frameworks and models
that underlie the programme• Be able to apply the MAP to show the
interdependence between the modules and to analysing an organisation
Participating in PwC’s Academy Management Development Programme was an enjoyable learning journey. Working in a fast-paced industry with a constantly changing environment it important to stay up-to-date with new business intelligence and successful strategies in multiple disciplines. I chose PwC’s Academy because it offered the best experience with a concise organised curriculum and an extraordinary faculty. The location of the course and timings resulted in minimum travel, and hence, also contributed to arriving at my decision. The Management Development Programme is ideal for executives like me, who have no time for irrelevant information overload and welcome this intellectual, stimulating experience. The most valuable aspect from this Programme was that I have been able to apply the concepts to my work immediately, and see the results first hand.. The classes were stimulating and challenging; included real-world applications and Harvard business casestudies. While I enjoyed the formal academic program, the informal atmosphere and emphasis on character, integrity and teamwork was exceptional. I studied with rising stars in a variety of industries, and while we each had our expertise in our own field, our best times were those when we leveraged one another’s experiences. Being a part of a great class with a good mix of experience levels and industry backgrounds made this an enjoyable learning experience! The linking up at the end session, was a great way to also tie it together and put everything into perspective which was important for my next step to be an entrepreneur.
