The Raintree Library has just received a generous do-
nation of books from Jim Mecklenburger of the Little Shop of Wonders. That means we have lots of new ti-
tles on our shelves if you have been having trouble finding something new to read. There are also books in the entry way that will soon be donated to the Home-
less Shelter. This might be your last chance to read them. Please remember that the books in the entry
way should NOT be returned and the books on the shelves in the pool room are part of a LENDING library
and should be returned to share with others.
If anyone has bookends, we need them for the hard

The President’s Report Gratitude Kathleen Megivern
A husband and wife who worked for the circus went to an adoption agency. The social work-
ers there raised doubts about their suitability. The couple then produced photos of their 50-foot motor home, which was clean and well maintained and equipped with a beautiful nursery.
The social workers then raised concerns about the education a child would receive while in the couple's care. "We've arranged for a full-time tutor who will teach the child all the usual subjects along with
French, Mandarin, and computer skills." Then the social workers expressed concern about a child being raised in a circus environment. "Our nanny will be a certified expert in pediatric
care, welfare, and diet." The social workers were finally satisfied, they asked, "What age child are you hoping to adopt?"
" It doesn't really matter ... as long as the kid fits into the cannon." Barb Masson
As we approach the Thanksgiving holiday, we here at Raintree Village have much to be grate-
ful for.
We came through Hurricane Irma with minimal damage. For that we
can thank the “weather gods” (or is it the Indian burial mounds?) who pushed her track further east, sending the worst of the storm away
from Tampa Bay.
But mostly we can thank our Maintenance Committee Chair, Jim Cain, and his dedicated band of volunteers who worked so hard during the
days just before Irma arrived. Just about everything in the Village which could have become a flying projectile (resulting in broken windows and maybe even lost roofs) was taken inside or
otherwise secured. After the storm passed, we faced days without power (nothing compared to poor Puerto Rico!), and Jim and his crew set up generators so that the Clubhouse could be-come a comfortable gathering place with a working refrigerator for, among other things, med-
icines that needed to be kept cold. Hot coffee and email access were just two of the “luxuries” available to residents. I found myself thankful for the wonderful sense of community through-
out that ordeal.
You should have received a mailing from Ameri-Tech about the upcoming Budget Adoption
meeting of the Board. Here’s another item on the gratitude list: we are grateful to be able to announce that there will be no increase in our monthly condominium fee. Here too, much of the credit goes to Jim and his Maintenance Committee (along with Mark) for the way they
have managed needed repairs and maintenance here in the Village.
And speaking of volunteers for whom we are grateful, thanks go to Patricia Mills for her ser-
vice as chair of the Social Committee. Because of other demands on her time, Patricia had to resign from that position and an enthusiastic core of volunteers stepped up to plan the Hal-
loween party as well as other upcoming events (see page 1).
Are you beginning to see the trend here? Gratitude and volunteers. We are blessed with the
latter and I am focused on the former! Happy Thanksgiving to everyone.

This, by an ingenious female student: This is brilliant.....
Thanks, Barb Masson
This should make you smile. You have to love little kids.
The children began to identify the flavors by their color:
Red.....................Cherry Yellow................Lemon Green..................Lime
Orange ..............Orange Finally the teacher gave them all HONEY lifesavers. None of the children could identify the
taste. The teacher said, "I will give you all a clue. It's what your mother may sometimes call your
father."
One little girl looked up in horror, spit her lifesaver out and yelled, "Oh my God! They're ass-holes!"
The teacher had to leave the room. Thank you Barb Masson for sharing

Seniors Perspective of Facebook
For those of my generation who do not, and cannot, comprehend why Facebook
exists:
I am trying to make friends outside of Facebook while applying the same princi-ples. Therefore, every day I walk down the street and tell passersby what I have
eaten, how I feel at the moment, what I have done the night before, what I will do later and with whom. I give them pictures of my family, my dog, of me gardening,
taking things apart in the garage, watering the lawn, standing in front of land-marks, driving around town, having lunch and doing what anybody and everybody
does every day. I also listen to their conversations, give them the "thumbs up" and tell them I like them----I already have four people following me: two police
officers, a private investigator and a psychiatrist. It works just like Facebook.

How IRMA Affected Raintree
Village By Maintenance Team
In September’s Newsletter, there were many
pictures of IRMA’s visit to Raintree Village and
the great volunteers who helped to get Raintree
Village back to normal.
As the maintenance team analyzed the damages
to Raintree, we were amazed how the direction
of the winds affected the problems.
The strongest winds were out of the east. We
had little or no damage from the east winds. This
is attributed to the two buildings, Walgreens and
the car wash to the east of us and Raintree Vil-
lage being in a bowl. The winds hit the two build-
ings and were turned up above our village.
As the winds came from the north and northeast,
it pushed the rain against the north side of the
houses and roofs. There were about 10 small
roof leaks, all on the north side of the roofs.
Most of the leaks were caused when the winds
blew against the chimneys and caused leaks
around the chimneys. Two chimney covers were
blown off. There were several reports of win-
dows leaking on the north side as the winds
pushed the rain into the windows. One resident
reported rain getting into her lanai, damaging the
rugs and other items.
The majority of our damages occurred by the
weakest winds from the west. There is nothing to
protect us in this direction. Two trees blew over
and had to be taken down. Large branches from
two other
trees broke off and fell near two other houses.
Luckily, no structural damage occurred. A lanai
screen was ripped, and several gutters, all old,
were bent. Several smaller trees and shrubs were
blown over and had to be straightened and
staked. Small branches, twigs and debris from the
trees and bushes were everywhere, and were
cleaned up by our volunteers and landscaping
company.
Those who still have damage from IRMA please
be patient. Our contractors have been busy help-
ing others who had a lot more damage than we
did
All of the costs have been absorbed in the cur-
rent maintenance budget.
An existing roofing issue on Unit 206 was worsen
by IRMA and had to be tarped to stop any addi-
tional deterioration until the roofing company can
replace it.
Something good did come out of IRMA – as a
community we came closer to each other, meet-
ing and helping neighbors we did not know.
Let’s start the New Year off
with a splash of paint on our
clubhouse By Maintenance Team
Due to IRMA the clubhouse painting in Septem-
ber was postponed until January. We were hop-
ing to have the clubhouse freshly painted for all of
our great fall and winter events, but IRMA blew
through, disrupting our plans. Let’s get it ready
for our great late winter and spring events.
We need helpers to paint the walls, paint the trim
work, paint the doors, remove and reinstall cabi-
net doors, minor plumber, etc. This is a great way
to work off some of that Holidays cheer.
This is a two-day event. If you can help either day
or both days, or any time is okay. Anything you
can do to help is appreciated. Don’t look at this a
working, look at this as having fun and meeting
your neighbors.
If you would like to volunteer to help please
email the RTV Maintenance Team at mainte-
[email protected] or just show up. Anything
you can do is appreciated. Look for the brochure
in your door during early January.
Fall Garage Cleanout Postponed
By Maintenance Team
Due to IRMA, the Fall Cleanup scheduled for
November has been postponed until April, 2018.
Pinellas County Hazardous Material Pickup was
not available to collect the paints and other
chemicals.
Greentech Spraying
By Maintenance Team
Every three months Greentech sprays our lawns
with a fertilizer, lawn bug killer and weed control
cocktail. You know they sprayed because they
leave small flags in the lawn. If no rain is sched-
uled within the next 48 hours after they spray,
please hand water your lawn for 10 minutes. This
will get the chemicals into the ground so they do
their job as intended. Help us keep your lawn
healthy and green.
A man spoke to each of his 3 sons when he sent them off to college,
"I feel it's my duty to provide you with the best possible education, and you do not owe me anything for that. However, I want you to
appreciate it. As a token, please each put $1,000 into my coffin when I die."
And so it happened. His sons became a doctor, a lawyer and a financial planner, each very successful financially. When their father's time
had come, and they saw their father in the coffin, they remembered his wish.
First, the doctor put 10 newly printed crisp $100 bills onto the chest of the deceased.
Then, the financial planner also put $1,000 there in 20 newly printed crisp $50 bills.
Finally, it was the heartbroken lawyer's turn. He reached into his pocket, took out his checkbook, wrote a check for $3,000, put it into
his father's coffin, and took the $2,000 cash.
The lawyer is now running for Congress possibly in your district.

This month the restaurant of choice for the Raintree Dining Out
Experience was Sea Sea Riders in downtown Dunedin. This restau-rant has been around for many a year and that alone speaks of its
quality. Joyce and I first went to the restaurant decades ago and really enjoyed the experience. The menu is mostly sea food as you
would expect. Our servers were Carol and Lyn and they did an exceptional job of tak-ing care of our 30 plus Raintree participants.
When asked if Larry would jump in and have his picture taken with the servers, he
jumped right up and it was hugs with one of our servers. Then a lady at the bar com-plimented Larry on his photo op with Lyn, one of our servers, so he went over to the
bar so there was one more photo op. It was a very fun filled night with a lot of Raintree participants, with a super setting. Yo Gabe....Our servers did ask where you were.
