• All national stations experienced a drop in All Adults listenership year on year. Despite a smalldrop in market share RTE Radio 1 remains the most popular national station.

• The signs of recovery for 2FM seen in the last book have not continued with the station slightlydropping market share in its All Adults and Housekeepers with Children audiences. The All Adultsfigure dropped from 7.5% to 7.2% year on year and the Housekeepers with Children figure fellfrom 12% to 11.7% this year.

• Newstalk also experienced a drop in its All Adults share and Adults 35+. All Adults dropped from4.7% to 4.4% year on year and Adults 35+ saw a marginal drop from 4.8% to 4.7%.

• Today FM proves to be the most popular national station for Adults 15-34 with a large marketshare of 14.6%, however this is down from 16.1% last year.

• Total average daily listening has dropped by one minute from 237 minutes to 236 minutes

Dublin – Year on year comparison• The national stations’ share growth suffered in Dublin as all experienced a slight drop in

market share compared to last year.

• Positive results for FM104 and Spin 1038, with both having an increase in market share.

• FM104 is still Dublin’s most listened to local radio station with 14.2% market share.

• FM104 saw a growth in market share of 2.6 percentage points whereas 98FM declined inmarket share by 0.7 percentage points when compared to the same period last year.

• Radio 1, FM104 and Q102 perform well for All Adults, with Q102 now beating Spin 1038 by1.3 percentage points. FM104 is the most popular local station amongst Housekeepers withchildren with 17.5% share – showing how this audience has also stayed largely native interms of their preferred radio station.

• FM104, Spin 1038 and Q102 respectively had the highest market share for 15 – 34 yearolds in Dublin.

Cork – Year on year comparison• The National stations' share growth fell in Cork by 1.5 percentage points influenced mainly

by Today FM's drop in listenership (10% to 7.5%).

• Despite this, 2FM (+0.6%), Lyric (+0.4%) and Newstalk (+0.1%) all gained share withlittle impact on RTE Radio 1 (-0.1%).

• RTE Radio 1 regained its most popular station status for Housekeepers with Kids (+3.6%yoy) with Today FM losing ground (-2.4%).

• Today FM experienced their biggest fall among adults 15-34 (-5.7%) with 2FM appealingmore the younger Leeside audience (+1.8%). That same audience seem to have gonenative with listenership to 96/103 jumping 9.8 percentage points YOY.

• 4FM's share slipped with All Adults dropping 0.3%, influenced by Housekeepers withKids (-1.6%) and even more so by Adults 15-34 (-2.3%). 0

Local/Regional – Year on year comparisonRegional• Two regional stations see an increase in market share against 15-34 year olds, namely i105-107 and

Beat. i102-104 dropped by two percentage points in their broadcast area while i105-107 saw a largeleap to 27% market share from 18%. Despite this drop i102 remains one of the best performingyouth regional stations.

Local• Despite remaining strong performers, most local stations saw a drop in market share when

compared with 2011. Shannon Side/Northern Sound had quite a disappointing book with a loss ofsix percentage points to 42% year on year. One of the success stories was South East Radio whichhad quite a successful book with an increase of six percentage points to 37% market share.

4FM• 4FM has moved to 2.3% market share for 45+; which is up .3 percentage points on 2011.

• RTÉ Radio One, 2FM & Today FM all lost market share predominantly due to increasedcompetition from local and multi-regional/city radio stations

• 2FM saw the biggest decline falling by 1.9% to 8.2%.

• Newstalk remains static at 4% market share and RTÉ Lyric FM is showing a marginalincrease from 1.6% to 1.7%

• Since Gerry Ryan’s death, 2FM has lost 2% in reach going from 14% in Jan-Jun 2010 to12% in Jul-Dec 10

• The influx of regional/local stations targeting the youth audience is reflected in its highmarket share for Ads 1534 at 62.1%

• 2FM and Today FM have seen significant declines in the 15-34 market, dropping 2.5 and3.3 percentage points respectively

• Average daily listening has dropped over 1% from 237 to 234 minutes

Today FM evenings have now been taken over by Colm O’Sullivan,former programme controller, music specialist and deputy CEO of RedFM in Cork. Colm will present a brand new music show running from 7-9pm Monday’s to Thursdays & 7-10pm on Sundays. The show will focuson up and coming music, new releases, great guest features and music-related competitions. The aim of ‘The Mix Up’ is to create a place whereeveryone who wants to get updates on great new music will have thechance to do so in an accessible manner. It is targeted towards 25-35year olds in particular.

A brand new sports programme on RTE 2FM is the highlight of RTÉRadio’s new programming strategy. ‘Game On’ started on MondayFebruary 4th and is presented by Damien O’Meara. The programme airseach weeknight between 7pm and 8pm. Jim Jennings, head of RTE1, hasalso announced changes to Radio 1’s evening schedule which focusesmore on arts & music. ‘Arena’ will now broadcast at an earlier time of7pm-8pm, Monday to Friday. This will be followed by ‘John Creedon’which will be broadcast between 8pm and 9.50pm, Monday to Friday,adding an extra half hour to the programme.
