Psychology

In this assignment, we need to design a built environment that reflect social psychology

concept, we decided to create a restaurant based on romantic concept, with the name of

“Elcannip”. We had decided to use the highest floor of Sunway’s Pinnacle as the location for

our Romantic Restaurant. The design objective is to provide a romantic theme for couples

especially during the Valentine’s Day. The design concept for “Elcannip” is classy romantic.

The materials used to build the “Elcannip” are glass, steel and marble. Glass are used to build

the 4 sloping sides of the pyramid. Inside “Elcannip”, there are a stage at the centre of the

restaurant for musical band to play music. The dining tables are located beside the glasses wall

so there can enjoy the night views. There is also a bar where drinks are serve. Greenery is

placed in the restaurant to make it more refreshing and eye pleasing. The kitchen of “Elcannip”

is located in the floor below the restaurant. There is a lift at the corner which is the only way

for customers to reach the restaurant.

Our restaurant located on the top of the Sunway Pinnacle, the location of the restaurant

helps to improve self-presentation. This is because the location and environment of the

restaurant seem exclusive and classy which is easier to get favourable impression between the

couple. The restaurant is structured like a pyramid and the walls are all made out of glass. This

enable customer dining in our restaurant to stargaze and enjoy the night city view .This can

increase the romantic feeling and enhance interpersonal relationship between the couples or

spouses.

The psychology concept that is applied to the restaurant’s interior design is messages

that does not appear to change attitudes. For the interior colour design, we use a theme colour

of brown and dark cherry red for the interior. Dark and warm colour tend to come forward,

making a large space not only feel smaller, but more personal and intimate, making people feel

closer to each other that are suitable for couple. The restaurant uses rectangle shape table.

Rectangle are stable, they are familiar and trusted shape and suggest honestly, which is very

important in a relationship. Rectangle, they suggest conformity, peacefulness, solidity, security,

and equality. The chairs are made of cushion and it is red in colour. Red colour represent love,

romance, comfort, and warmth.

Other than that, the psychological concept magical thinking is also applied in the

building. The restaurant is located at the highest point in city, the customers can feel like they

are dining in the sky. Also during rainy days, raindrops is visible through the transparent glass

roof .Creating the feeling under the rain , this enhances the romantic setting of the restaurant,

as being under the rain is referred as being romantic.

Lastly, the building also increase the phenomena of stereotyping .The physical

appearance of the restaurant look exclusive and high class, so the people that dine at the

restaurant will be stereotyped as being rich. Also the worker who work there will be stereotyped

as high level chef and servant.
