Who is a social worker?

• Highly trained and experienced individual who is competent in

human behavior and development• Who are social workers employed

by?- hospitals, schools, mental health

clinics, senior centers, private practices, prisons, military, and in numerous public

and private agencies

• Over 200,000 clinically trained social workers which is more than

psychiatrists, psychologists, and psychiatric nurses combined

• U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs - 10,000 MSW

What do social workers do?

• Enhance human well-being & help meet the basic human needs of all

people• Help heal with life’s most difficult

challenges:- poverty, discrimination, abuse,
