The Silensor consists of each one splint for upper and lowerjaw. The lower jaw is positioned by 2 connectors that arefixed laterally to the splint. During sleep, muscle tone in theneck and pharynx decreases. This causes narrowing of thepharyngeal space, the required volume of air must be inspiredat a higher velocity and noisy vibration (snoring) of soft tissu-es, such as the velum palatinum (soft palate) and the uvulum,is stimulated. The Silensor opens the pharyngeal space. Thevelocity of the inspired air decreases and so do noise-genera-ting vibrations of soft tissues.

The Silensor is fabricated out of Erkodur or out of Erkoloc-proas Silensor-Comfort. The Erkodur Silensor is in general suffi-ciently comfortable, unbulky and only covers the teeth.The device out of the double-layer plate Erkoloc-pro is verycomfortable, a little bit larger and as stable as the ErkodurSilensor. It is not recommended to use the Erkoloc-proSilensor in case of poor retention.
Playsafe sports-mouthguards are fabricated individually, consist of minimum two laminated layers and an imprint ofthe opposing bite. Additionally they can be equipped with thesportist’s name and Playsafe type labels.
Comparing dentist fabricated, custom sports mouthguards toBoil & Bite type mouthguards reveals significant differences.Playsafe mouthguards fit exactly onto the teeth, do not moveand allow to breathe freely and after a short time of adapta -tion to speak normally. Boil & Bite mouthguards do not fit asaccurately as custom sports mouthguards and move. The athlete has to hold the mouthguard onto the teeth, this pre-vents him from producing outstanding performances.
Various scientific tests show the superior protection of laminated Playsafe sports-mouthguards.
The biocompatibility of all thermoforming materials is proved, all materials are listed at the BgVV (Federal Health Office) and theyare CE marked according to the EEC guidelines (93/42/EEC). Waxes by DTM Thiel have a high inner stability, are stable,hard, have best scraping and milling properties, do not smear,are very well formable in plastified condition and have anextremely low contraction. The oxide free waxes, combustible without residues, are alsosuited when casting ceramics. Aesthetic waxes contain for optical reasons 0.2% non-com-bustible parts (titanoxide). As per the norm, these may bemarked as combustible without residues, however, they arenot suited when casting ceramics. Cervical wax red, hard, breaks in case of undercuts, cervicalwax orange is soft, tension-free and has a plastic wax condi-tion. Cervical wax violet, mid-hard is formable in plastifiedcondition without memory. Oxide free, combustible withoutresidues, suited when casting ceramics.
