THERMAL FRAMING SYSTEM

The Thermal Framing System is for use on commercial and retail buildings, schools and public buildings where low cost and high thermal performance is required. The system can be used in conjunction with the commercial entrance doors and window inserts as required. The thermal break is provided by 36mm wide polyamide strips PA 66 GF25

Materials:Aluminium profiles are extruded from alloy 6060/6063 T6 complying with the recommendations of BS EN 12020-2

Finishes:

Mill finish

Etched and anodised to BS 3987: 1991 (01.06.2007) - Silver AA25 or colours on request.

Polyester Powder coat paint to BS EN 12206-1:2004. See separate list for standard colour range available.

Construction:Aluminium profiles are square cut mechanically jointed and secured using stainless steel screws driven into extruded screw splines. All joints should be sealed against water penetration.

Glass, Glazing and Infil Panels:The double glaze framework can accommodate 28 and 32mm thick double glazing units. The system will also accommodate solid infil panels to customers own specification and supply.The thermal performance of the IGU or panel (Ug) should be matched along with the performance of the frame work (Uf) to achieve an overall u-value as required.All glass panels should be secured in framework with glazing gaskets extruded from TPE. Glazing to be carried out in strict accordance with BS 6262 and BS 6206 with particular attention being taken to risk areas, which would require safety glass.

Installation and Fixing:The fixing of all framework is by generic frame fixing screws through the glazing pocket supported by the fixing bridge KAS729. It is not recommended that fixing holes are pre-drilled, as site conditions may affect their position. The fixing bridge will also help to eliminate local frame distortion. All fixing screws must be stainless steel or cadmium plated finish.

Thermal Framing System - Typical Transom detail – Therm Version 5.2.14

Uframe = 2.62 W/m2K ψedge = 0.0356 W/mK

The image above shows a typical transom arrangement with a 28mm IGU (insulating glass unit) with a temperature range of 0°C externally (the left hand side) and 20°C internally (the right hand side). The colour legend shows the temperature fluctuations across the construction, the red shading giving a nominal internal temperature of 15.5°C. By direct comparison to standard non thermal GFT framing the internal temperature would be approximately 6.4°C.

Thermal Framing System - Typical cill detail – Therm Version 5.2.14

U-frame = 2.68 W/m2K ψ-edge = 0.0331 W/mK

The low frame and edge U-value figures and high internal frame temperatures provide for excellent thermal performance when combined with a correctly specified IGU or non vision panel, and greatly reduced condensation risk to the internal frame parts. Overall U-values should be calculated in accordance with CAB Guide for assessment of the thermal performance of Aluminium curtain wall framing. Appendix A.
