At Tamlite, we have invested heavily in experienced staff and test facilities in the laboratory at our central Technical Department based in Telford. This allows for much greater quality control, to ensure products comply with European Standards. This includes EMC, electrical and thermal performance testing, so that customers have the assurance of reliability and quality.

As a BAFE certified company, Tamlite Lighting emergency lighting system designs are confirmed to be compliant with British emergency lighting standards, providing peace of mind to our customers. Fire-rated xcite products are 30, 60 and 90 minute fire-rated, providing assurance of quality and safety.

Running costs reductionLEDs are a much more efficient light source than traditional fluorescent, HID or tungsten halogen lamps and are able to deliver a crisp, white light with the benefit of major savings on running costs. Typical reductions can be seen in the below examples.

Maintenance savingsThe extended life of LED luminaires means that costly and inconvenient lamp replacements are a thing of the past. The lifetime of most LEDs is 30,000 hours or more which even for 24/7 operation can be over 3 years.

schemes and produces compliance criteria for all lighting products so that only the most

reliable and efficient luminaires can be used: variants over 105 lumens per watt efficacy

HOLIDAY INN EXPRESSHoliday Inn Express, Portsmouth North, part of the global chain IHG, is a modern 150-bedroom hotel situated close to the A27 in Portsmouth.

In external environments, ensuring that people feel safe and secure is crucial, and installing the right lighting is an integral part of improving security.

To ensure that the outdoor spaces were safe for guests and staff, xcite Floodlights were fitted around the exterior of the building, in a recent upgrade of the lighting system at the site.

The Museum of London tells the story of the capital and its people from 450,000 BC to the present day. Their galleries, exhibitions, displays and activities seek to inspire a passion for London and provide a sense of the vibrancy that makes the city such a unique place.

The Museum of London Archaeological Archive, based at Mortimer Wheeler House, is home to 6 million items and it is crucial that workers are fully aware of their surroundings. To upgrade the lighting system in the warehouse, the xcite Batten was identified as the ideal solution for aisles and walkways, creating a uniform light distribution, allowing people to move around the warehouse without accidents.

MUSEUM OF LONDON UNIVERSITY OF ESSEXFull marks for the xcite lighting system upgrade at the new University of Essex International College.

The International College offers degree preparation courses for international students to allow them to progress on to study at undergraduate and postgraduate level at the university.

Operated by Kaplan International Pathways, the College, located in the Constable Building in the Colchester Campus, has students representing over 30 nationalities, and gives them a taste of University life before they begin their bachelor or masters course.


LCA Controls, a major supplier of electrical, control and instrumentation engineering solutions throughout the UK and overseas, have relocated to a new state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in North Wales.

LCA group wanted the new building to provide the ideal working atmosphere for office staff, as well as create a pleasant, welcoming environment for guests.In the open plan office, to minimise glare and discomfort for employees working on computers for long periods, xcite Panels were installed. Fitted with an opal diffuser, the panel has been designed to create comfortable lighting for room occupants.

LCA CONTROLSFlybe, Europe’s largest regional airline, carries 9 million passengers a year across 79 airports throughout the UK and Europe. The lighting system in one of its hangars at Exeter airport has been given a significant upgrade using xcite luminaires to create a better working environment for technicians and mechanics, with safety always top of mind.

The previous lighting system gave a poor light output and low energy efficiency. The new lighting design utilises the three output sizes of the xcite Hi Bay range, providing different light levels to fulfil various requirements throughout the hangar.

For many years lighting design seemed a low priority in architectural considerations for a building. Today however it is recognised as a crucial element in the building services industry. Not only is lighting sometimes responsible for up to half of a commercial premises’ power consumption, but it can often be the finishing touch in a project which ensures achievement of an attractive, stimulating and dynamic environment for all users. With such vital considerations, it is clearly very important to ensure a qualified and experienced input by skilled personnel every time. The design of a lighting installation involves the collation of a wide range of information, all of which is crucial in helping the designer or installer to make the right choice. This process is often neglected, but forms the basis of all good lighting design. The information can be as involved as user work patterns or be as simple as the type of ceiling that is installed. An understanding of the application, the products and the science behind the design is vital. Illuminance averaged over the specified area, measured in Lux lx

Colour rending

The ability of a light source to reveal the colours of objects. Measured by the colour rendering index (Ra), the higher the number the better, up to a maximum of 100

Ra

Colour temperature

Relates to the actual colour appearance of the light emitted. TC (K) from the lamp: colour temperature from the lamp, commonly; warm, neutral, cool or daylight colour appearance, is worked out using the CIE Chromacity diagram. Measured in degrees Kelvin (lamps are usually listed in the form or of 835, 840 and 965). The first number is the Ra, the second and third are the colour temperature. e.g. 840 is an Ra of 80 and a colour temperature of 4000K

EfficacyMeasured in lumens per Watt, efficacy helps compare the amount of light available for each Watt of power

Im/W

IlluminanceThe luminous flux density on a surface, per unit area, known as the illumination level and expressed as E or Lux

1 lm/m² = 1 lx

Luminance The measured brightness of a surface cd/m²

Light output ratio

The ratio of the total light output of the luminaire to the output of the lamps (LOR)

The total light output of a luminaire Lumens

Maintained illuminance

This would be the illumination level for a designer which takes into account the depreciation of the lamps and the collection of dirt and dust within the area

Uniformity ratio

This generally represents the ratio between the average illuminance value and the lowest across specified area
