Nowra High School ‐ It’s News To Me

Dear Students, Parents and Caregivers,

Nowra High School is committed to developing future-focused learners through the integration of technology into all teaching and learning programs. A broad range of technological tools are used every day to enhance quality learning experiences for students and to explicitly teach the skills required to be digitally savvy in an increasingly technologically reliant global community. To further enhance these aims, Nowra High School has dedicated significant resources to the development and implementation of a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) program.

The focus of the BYOD program at Nowra High School is to provide tools and resources to the Future-Focused Learner. A successful BYOD program requires technology to be seamlessly integrated throughout the school's curriculum. Increased access to technology is essential for teaching students skills for a future in which, as societal trends suggest, digital literacy is key. The individual use of personal devices is a way to empower students to work to their full potential and develop essential learning habits with the support of digital tools.

Learning results from continuous dynamic interaction among students, educators, parents and the extended community. Technology immersion does not diminish the vital role of the teacher. On the contrary, it transforms the teacher from a director of learning to a facilitator of learning. Effective teaching and learning with technology integrates technology into the curriculum any time, any place.

In 2021 our vision is to have 1:1 access for every student in Years 7 and 8, every period, every day. This will allow our teachers to consistently deliver high quality learning opportunities that foster and develop digital literacy skills and better prepare them for a dynamic and changing world. Students in years 9 – 12 are strongly encouraged and supported to also engage in the Nowra High School BYOD Program, however, this is not mandatory in 2021. These students will continue to have access to school devices at times during their coursework.

Please find on our School Website the following documents; 2021 Nowra High School BYOD Policy, information relating to device specifications and a link to the Learning With Technologies purchase portal.

Should you have any questions or concerns please contact Deputy Principal and Technology Coordinator, Rodney Loxley, on 4421 4977.

We look forward to your continuing support in providing quality education for all students.

Yours Sincerely,

Glen Kingsley
