Term 3 Week 7 Friday September 4 2020 March 2020
Covid-19 Updates
CONSISTENT KEY MESSAGES:
Schools continue to be safe, and our current
operations are in line with Australian Health
Protection Principal Committee (AHPPC) and
NSW Health advice. All students should be
learning on campus unless they are unwell or
have a medical certificate to support their
absence. The activities that are permitted at
school will be conducted in a way that is safe
and appropriate in the current environment.
Those that remain on hold will be reviewed
during the term and will recommence when
appropriate, based on health and other relevant
advice.
In regards to student attendance, students
should be at school unless:
• They have a medical certificate which
states that they are unable to return to
school due to an ongoing medical
condition and the expected timeframe
• They are currently unwell.
In accordance with advice from NSW Health,
parents and carers are reminded NOT to send
children to school if they are unwell, even if they
have the mildest flu-like symptoms. We will
need to make arrangements for students who
present as unwell or have flu like symptoms to
be sent home.
NEW UPDATES:
If a student has ongoing symptoms which
persist beyond 10 days, they should arrange to see their doctor. The medical assessment should
consider whether the symptoms are typical for that person (for example seasonal, allergic rhinitis),
and provide documentation for the school if this is the case.
Please read the linked 'Department COVID-19 Advice for Families' document and if you have any concerns,
please contact the school.
https://education.nsw.gov.au/covid-19/advice-for-families
Please note: For normal illnesses, if a student is absent for more than three days without a medical
certificate, this will be recorded as an unauthorised absence and followed up by the school. In
relation to medical certificates, if there is an ongoing pattern of poor attendance, under chapter
16a of the Children and Young Persons (Care and Protection) Act 1999, the principal may contact
the GP to discuss the matter. Schools should work with the student and their parent/carer to put a
plan in place to support their return to school with support from the Home School Liaison program
and Learning and Wellbeing team. Our primary concern is the wellbeing and safety of the students
in our care.
