Welcome back to another term at Ashford Central School! The term has commenced with our Year 12 students commencing their HSC examina ons. This me can be very overwhelming for students and their families so we wish all students the best during this me. Student performance in these exams is only a measure of their ability in a test or exam at one point in me. It does not control their future
success or happiness. Looking a er yourself (diet and exercise), ge ng a good sleep, and reaching out to others for support are good ways to manage these next few weeks. Addi onal strategies and ideas can be found at: h ps://www.youthbeyondblue.com/do‐something‐about‐it/surviving‐year‐12. For all other students, I encourage you to have a look back through your workbooks and texts in prepara on for end of year assignments and tests coming up over the next few weeks.
Around the classrooms and playground: It has been great to see such energy and enthusiasm from students these past two weeks. With fantas c science informa on posters from Year 4 students and a large group of students accessing the cricket nets to name a few of the ac vi es that I have seen. Walking around the playground, I have met our new Kindergarten transi on group and heard all about their first day at school, I have learned the steps involved in building a pig trap (according to the master builders in the photos) and watched students working with STEM equipment in the library.
The standard you walk past, is the
standard you accept.

Parental support strategy ‐ Study and School ps: 1. Rely on systems, not mo va on Students who do well in school don’t wait un l they’re in the mood to study before they get down to work. Neither do they wait un l they feel mo vated before they start preparing for an exam. Instead, successful students rely on systems to ensure that they get the work done, even when they don’t feel like it. 2. Review any new informa on you’ve learned on the same day This daily review won’t take long to complete, but it’s a vital step that ensures you stay on top of the material. Applying this p will also help you to move the informa on to your long‐term memory more quickly. 3. Write everything down To be an effec ve student, write everything down. This includes homework to be completed, test and exam dates, project deadlines, compe on dates, school and family events, etc. Don’t assume that you’ll be able to remember anything; write it all down to stay organised. This p might sound extreme, but life only gets busier as you get older. So this p will serve you well for the rest of your life. School Planning: Any P&C or community member that is interested in being a part of our SPC is welcome to a end our next mee ng (Thursday 14/11/19 at 3:10pm at the school). The 2020 School Plan is taking shape with our major focus areas being: 1. Quality teaching ‐ learning progressions K‐10,
The Marzano Project 2. Student achievement‐
3. Literacy: wri ng (ALARM & PEEL)
4. Numeracy: number ( mes tables, frac ons decimals and percentages, mental computa on)
5. Future Focused Learning ‐ major projects, stem days, interest groups, calendar of community events
6. Aboriginal Educa on – promo on of culture and local significant sites
7. Community engagement ‐ more community input, par cipa on and a endance at school events and with student learning
8. Wellbeing – Ongoing promo on of Posi ve Behaviour for Learning (PBL) and increasing a endance.
Community engagement: It has been so wonderful to see so many ACS students at the pool every day! The provision of the season passes has enabled students the opportunity to be ac ve, away from electronic devices and build their teamwork skills. It has been fantas c to hear such posi ve feedback from the P&C around this drought ini a ve and that the next P&C mee ng will be held at the pool! Please come along and support our school at the mee ng (07/11/19 at 4pm).

If you are contacted around the whereabouts of your child, please assist us with as much informa on as possible including specific blockers to their a endance. There are mul ple strategies in place for working with families around a endance. Please ensure that you think carefully about the impact on your child and their educa on when your child is absent from school. If there is a planned absence, please contact the school to inform us and arrange set work to be sent home for comple on.

Year 5/6 NRL Legends of League Day
On the last Thursday of Term 3, students from 5/6 travelled to Inverell for the NRL Legends of League day. They played against different teams from Ross Hill Public School and Holy Trinity. The girls played League Tag and the boys played tackle. They all played five games in the day. They all had a fabulous day winning a couple of games and losing a couple, with lots of great sportsmanship.
